Oh. My. God. This perfectly depicts how my rehearsals went. I quit 3 months ago, couldn't take it anymore. The guitarist was a chronic noodler. I'd play a song for him to listen to and he'd immedlately start noodling during the song. He'd also regularly forget to being equipment. Keyboard player would make the same mistakes after being corrected the previous rehearsals.

This video showed up tonight - rehearsal night - as I’m sitting on my patio with the PA gear and my bass rig set up. Practice was supposed to start at 7:00. At 8:30 I got a text from the drummer saying it was way too hot to play. The guitar player had a work call, so he gets a bit of a pass, but it’s now 9:00 & haven’t heard from him. This hit a little too close to home. On the plus side, the cooler full of beer is all mine.

I remember the only time I actually felt cool at practice. I was running a bit late due to some roadwork, forcing me to take a detour. I show up, and I can already hear the others practicing the first song without me. I headed inside and downstairs, and somehow, nobody noticed. I slipped behind the singer, strapped up, turned on my amp, and jumped in on the last chorus. Everyone looked over but just kept playing, and it was one of the coolest, smoothest transitions that ever happened... before I got grilled about being late. ... But for like 40 seconds, I was actually cool.

Yes Charles you have nailed it. I can't count the wasted hours as a guitar player starts into somebody else's song and the drummer decides to join in instead of practicing your original material. The showing up late. The excuses. And yeah the tom tuning. It's like, those drums have been here in the rehearsals space just like they were when we finally got going 3 days ago why does it take you 20 minutes of banging as hard as you can before you can play them again. The only thing you missed was the guitar player that never thinks about the mix, only that the guitar should be as loud as possible. As opposed to creating a song as a whole, a mixed sound. You know like it would appear on something recorded in a Studio ? I do like your little sketches as well.

Drummer here. 😎I was involved in a new band start up recently. At the final rehearsal that I attended, the bass player that was organising the band said: “tonight, we’ll work on starts and ends of the songs”. Every time he said a song title, the guitarist would just start playing the song on his own, and just keep going. What a waste of time.
