for sure one of the best climbing channels on youtube. and scotland looks incredible, missing the "great outdoors".

What an insightful and humble video! Your words and thoughts resonate well with me and how I am feeling. Especially today, after two days out at the crag and being outside enjoying the days. A simple, yet fulfilling VS 4c, with two wonderful people. Has put a spring in my step and a smile that won’t fade for days. Good to have you back!!

Thank you for some of the most thoughtful climbing content here. You always deliver something that is balanced and insightful. It's also great to see someone like yourself being open about not being happy. I myself have struggled with this during the period. Glad to see you back among my sub feed.

Yup things not going to plan for me as well... Injured my shoulder at the start of lockdown. Pain was almost almost gone, went skateboarding (a side hobby) yesterday and fell on my injured shoulder, now I'm back at square one... But I'm sure I'll get up again soon!

Such a wise approach, so many people needlessly suffer by being too attached to where they are going and too involved with where they have been, and they lose touch with where they are right now.

In terms of the studies. I'm just finishing up my PhD in a health/sports science department. I'm fortunate that I had all of my data collected pre-corona. Although I've just accepted a job managing clinical trials in the NHS and industry so that'll be interesting.

I can imagine those videos you shot but didn't post. I bet you said the same things I've also said over this crazy period. Unfortunately we're living through bad times. I too after that very bad lockdown was able to return to climbing that has brought real life back. I hope governments, media, and whoever else is behind this truly global madness do not put us through this again. So we can focus on the real things in our lives. Which I'm sure for many of us include climbing near the top!

Hey Dave, how across the years has hearing about climbing tragedies and accidents affected your climbing personally? I've seen some footage of your trad falls and I've also seen some videos of people who've fallen and given themselves lifelong injuries. Do you have any insight onto this as to whether it's a barrier for you pushing yourself and how up and coming climbers should interpet accident footage?

Hiya! Probably not the best KZbin video to begin watching you lol. Got a look at some climbing though. Can you how somebody who wants to take up climbing in his 40's as an escapism would go about starting? Its calling to me but I know nobody or alot about getting started.... I live in the Vale of Glamorgan so I suppose Symmonds Yat is closest to me for outdoor and Bedlinog for indoor. Can you recommend as the challenge is what i need. Please can you help?
@climbermacleod4 жыл бұрын
Sure, I made a whole video on this subject. kzbin.info/www/bejne/qqOZeXiBr9V7gcU I think its message is pretty clear - don't wait for anything else to happen or be in place to get started, just go to the crag/wall and the stages will unfold. If you hang around at crags or climbing walls you'll meet folk to go climbing with.

Hi Dave is it worth weighing yourself regularly? I've pretty much stopped weighing myself over the last few years but I'm always wondering whether my strength has gone up or I'm just carrying less weight up the wall!
@climbermacleod4 жыл бұрын
I never weigh myself, unless I'm actively trying to move my weight in a certain direction, which I do pretty rarely (twice in last 5 years). I do look after my diet pretty carefully though.

Its a nice idea but I'm not sure it's right for me. I focused on studies and learning for a bit and that, in the long run, will help me pull together more useful thoughts. I've always felt that doing really worthwhile stuff in many contexts generally requires periods of focus.

What should have happened - Protect the vulnerable while the rest of us got on with living thus acquiring “herd immunity”. Then at the appropriate time, re-incorporate those being sheltered back into the community. What actually happened - The healthy were quarantined. Education was ruined. The economy was tanked. Hospitals were emptied for a COVID-19 rush that never happened while the elderly, including those COVID-19 positive were sent to care homes where thousands died lonely deaths. Have you ever had the feeling this “pandemic” is not all it seems?

I knew this was gonna happen before it started LOL. It was really obvious with minimal research. The real bad thing was that everybody got scared by the media and politicians who made it seem like the end of the world.. people finally start to realize they have been fooled 🤤
