Efforts to connect human brains to computers have taken big leaps forward in recent years. Melding our minds with machines could provide the biggest single upgrade to human intelligence since our species evolved. But are we ready?

Great video! It is quite informative. But yikes, "enhancing humans" is definitely a misnomer. A tool enhances an activity, not the user. These neural interfaces will no more improve the individual themselves than a hammer does its wielder. Cheers

Well they said: can we put thoughts and behavior into hydra or mice? … we want to do it with humans too … darpa is also at the forefront … so enhancement will be sending commands to soldiers via this interface, modulation of their perception, modulation to “prevent PTSDs” … it’s a real enhancement if soldiers are enabled to simply follow commands and not having to deal with all the emotions that get in the way… and super intelligence as well as longer life spans will be therapies available to the rich first of course… it’s just certain aspects of these “benefits” normal people will receive.

It will require no head movement, motion controllers, VR headsets, glasses or any type of external devices and be near or totally indistinguishable from reality by that time. I think that is only true in the early stages. However when the technology is fine tuned, the price will have dropped to a point where almost everyone can afford it. This is what append to computers and other technologies and history usually repeats itself.

Bastian Petersson I don't have that kind of faith in humanity at that level of biotechnology. And it would probably go many generations away before it gets to that point. By that time power structure would have changed exponentially keeping it in the hands of privilege. I think it would be more than a parallel to simple tech it would be a new currency. It's more the equivalent of looking at how economics works on generational wealth vs poverty.

Bastian Petersson really you are on the Economist Channel. Economics is the study of essentially that. The reason why this is important is it's economical implications... Look at the internet and the fact that a law had to be put in place to make sure that it's open and neutral. And now net neutrality is under attack... We are already doing it.
