Great video man!!! We have a forsure male over here that will not breed I wasn’t sure if it was because he was mature yet but I ended up trying out a younger male just to see and that male breed instantly. I feel like some males as well as females can get picky with who they breed with. Like you said it’s not up to you with your male he breeds with whoever he feels is worthy 😂

This was a great video. I paired a 100g boy leopard gecko to a 60 g female and had some issues with the male having a hard time locking. I also do wonder if the size difference is slightly threatening to the female. Thanks for explaining that to us!

I have someone send me pictures of a super giant male, similar to yours, left overnight with the female, and he ripped her arm off and the female died 2 days later. So although rare, accidents like that can happen, so i always like to advise people that theres always risk in breeding, but ways we can minimize that risk, and everyone should be aware of the level of risk they want to entertain and then they can make their own choices, but yeh thanks for sharring like i said ive noticed some locking issues with bigger size differences in geckos so its good to know other people have noticed that as well! :D

How long do you typically observe males “locked” to females? It’s around 15 seconds total for my male with a few females this season. Not sure if the lock should be for a minute, or if 15 seconds *can* be sufficient. I’m very curious what your experience is man!

@@desertdragonworksaz oh yeh for sure especially males that wont lock, ive nocticed some males still "release" DNA but not pursue locking the girl, that could be a good way to still get the DNA to the girl you desire for the season, good idea! This is the type of progress for the hobby i like to hear, promoting new ideas and experiences for continual advancement, nice! :D

I have a male that definitely seems interested in breeding. He does the tail shake, grabs the female and the whole nine yards. When he has her in position however, he won't protrude his hemipene and insert it. He just keeps holding her in place and moving his hips. Eventually the female gets tired of waiting and then moves away. I've tried multiple times and it always ends up being the same. He's 2 years old. Has anyone ever experienced this and is there anything that can be done?

yes this is somewhat common from me hearing from other people and also my own experience, like i stated in this video, my black night male did that same exact thing with i kid you not like 20 girls, and got all of them gravid, so have you gotten any eggs yet and how old is the female? If shes 1 year old she might lay infertiles, otherwise, she should be good.

@@GeekyGeckoCreations I just tried to breed them this week since my females went into ovulation, so I'll see if they become gravid. The females are also 2 years old. I kinda stared at them doing it and saw no insertion or his hemipenes coming out so that's why I was wondering if that meant anything. It was just so strange that he was so eager to breed but nothing came out. Hopefully something transferred even if just a little.

Thanks for the great video! I do have question, is there an age when males shouldn’t be bred? There’s a specific individual I’m looking at but he hatched in 2014 and I’m unsure if it would be wise to invest in him. Thanks!

Males can typically breed well even late into life so if you really like him go for it. Maybe ask the owner if he currently is breeding and when the last time he did was :D

Not really, ive tried everything, a neutral cage, the males cage, the females cage, it just seems some males are naturally more "into it" than others lolol thats why I always keep back up males and more than one kind of "morph" I'm going for in male version, in case one has issues lol...

Try the female again everyday, put into his cage. He needs to know a female exists beforehand. I have a timid male that took 3 days to warm up to her. Her scent needs to be present for long enough for him to have his desire to go up.

@@JO-iv7tl Thats a good idea! They def do seem to be really scent-based. Also the room you keep them in should allow them to smell the females in the air, but like you said you can try multiple introductions, and even putting the male into the females cage, and not removing her poo or anything beforehand probably gives him more scent of her, but yes some males are just really not too into it lol.

loll thats so funny yeh sometimes its 30 seconds sometimes its longer like you said haha, that's funny spin on it tho. On the albinos being bigger, Maybe, sometimes I've seen that in Tremper Albinos, but that could be because Ron Tremper bred a lot of big geckos and so their DNA got into his bloodline, not sure, but in general Bold Stripes, Black Nights, i heard Bell Albinos, and maybe WY morphs tend to be a little smaller than Tremper Albinos, so maybe?? Interesting observation, ill have to study it more in depth now lol!

there is a lot of disagreement in the hobby over what an actual giant is. Let's just say for now, he's much larger than normal and therefore should stand a higher chance of producing bigger animals in his offspring :D

How can u make your gecko put weight on fast

Dubia roaches or just feed them a lot of mealworms. Do you have a specific issue with one gecko? Some geckos have smaller genetics, or parasite (which are in a lot of geckos) might affect growth rate as well. But to put weight on my geckos i feed as many mealworms as they'll eat while growing, of course always sprinkled with calcium with D# and vitamins for the first 6 months of geckos life, then you can feed them slower and MUCH less once they are grown, unless they are breeding, then keep them a nice size for the breeding season :D

GUT LOAD your feeders… Organic Chicken Feed and Root Veggies like Carrots. Make sure the chicken feed isn’t medicated! You can buy a bag of Organic Chick Crumble at Rural King for like $12, it will last months for your roaches and mealworms

@@indynanner463 Thanks yeah we havent gut loaded before, and never noticed anything significant growth or otherwise over here, but we do feed our leopard geckos only mealworms and we refrigerate the mealworms so they stay in a hibernating state for 3 months, however, i would like to test it out one day with a test group of babies/breeders on gut-loaded vs non-gut loaded. @@GeekyGeckoCreations you should always gutload your insects. ALWAYS!!!! Thats how you get the nutrition into your animals. Also its probaly why you have a slender male there, bc you havemt been gutloading! Maybe you shouldnt be doing educational videos at this time and instead, be watching them to learn for yourself. Im not trying to be mean here, but there is a simple answer to the question that was asked. How to put weight on your gecko fast? I wouldve said you dont want to put the weight on fast. But you definitely want to feed them appropriately everyday with a proper diet, that being gutloaded insects that have been eating safe nutritious foods. That should be the number one staple. What you put into your roaches and mealworms goes into your animal. Its just bad advice telling someone to feed alot of worms that aren't gutloaded and have been dormant for weeks. They get no nutrition from that.

@@KYKonstrictorsandExotics The male is slender because hes a Turcmenicus, they are built that way, same with fasciolatus. Hes by no means underweight hes like 90 grams or so and 10-11". Big boy :D I've also grown 100s of animals in record speed using the method im using now for the past 3 years, So it might be a little short sighted of you, whos never tried it to say otherwise, I always like 2 differing opinions and i like talking about it, but if youve never done something its hard to critique it correct? We absolutely use top of the line supplement and calcium to ensure the worm bowls have everything the geckos need, and so thats probably why they grow so fast in our expereince. We'll get a gecko to full size in 3-4 months sometimes.
