Thank you. Any pointers on getting the larger cartridge out easier? The plastic rim of the bottom part of the cartridge sits right under the intake baffle, and it makes it very difficult.

No real trick to it. Just wiggle it a little and pull up hard. That large cartridge is super heavy.

This is a great video on HOW to change filters but it doesn't help me to know WHEN I need to replace it. Mine has two 1-cm tears at the top of two of the gills, and DE powder sometimes shoots out of my impellers after I add it to the filter basket. So I dont know if I need to replace the filter or not. Other than the two tears the cartridge looks good. But my water is cloudy and I think it's DE causing it.

Thanks for posting video. I have the Sta-Rite S7M120. I also downloaded an owner's manual. Seems like you failed to mention to "release air valve" before opening up the system. This is the second step after turning off power. Cheers

My cartridge filters lasted 2 1/2 years. I cleaned them every 3 months.

I have a system 3 s8m150, where is the best place to buy the replacement filters? also, need a new pressure gauge, where can I get that? right now it has a bottom-mounted gauge but I see most video show a rear mount gauge, which is best?

I found out that simply taking out the filters and spraying the filters off with water and chlorine bath in a big 50 gallon trash can also stretches the life of the filters. I am getting ready to change my filters for the first in 7.5 years. The hardest thing is making sure you get the right filters. as the video says there are 4 different filters.

How much water is stored in the filter and how long does it take to drain out? When i removed the plug, the water flowed out for over a minute. I got worried i didn't turn off all the valves, so i put the plug back on. But, the water had to be turned off, because I then removed the pump cover/basket and no water flowed out.

It's a sign they are wearing out - however if the water is clear and the flow is good and you have no water quality issues you can ride them a bit longer - the replacement cartridges are pretty pricey.

Dumb question. Why are the bands needed on the filters? If filter is still good can you reband the filter ? If so how?

The bands keep the pleats evenly spaced to get the full 450 sq ft of filtration if you have the bigger unit. Once the pleats start to widen and expand the filter works less effectively. The bands are glued on in the factory so not sure they can be replaced.

My folks have a similar filtration system with our inground pool set-up as well. We have the S7M120 and we do need to change the Large and Small filters out as well. the water flow and filteration have not been doing well, I just cleaned the filters within the past month and today there is No water pressure and the creepy Krawlly has not been working to full potential so it's time. what was the tool you used in unscrewing those locking knobs? I also saw you used a lubricant on that O-ring I didnt realize that should be done until you applied it. Is that necessary to lubricate?

sundance kidd it you live in place like Georgia don’t bye it, debris gets caught in the top of the basket and the pump loses prime, eventually burning the seal. I removed about 15 total from my customers. Just empty the skimmer baskets more often.
