I liked the tip about wearing a shower cap after getting retwists so they don't unravel. Your videos are helpful :)

Hi Alexis. Thanks for the great tips. My biggest issue was trying to stop touching my hair. Like you, I was excited about my hair growth and I would constantly do a length check. I colored and retwisted my locs about 3 days ago. The gel I use is light and smells great. It gives my locs shine and moisture. My retwist can last up to 2 weeks if I keep it tied down. I set my locs with flexirods so I've been wearing my satin bonnet to bed. I prefer a neat look but it's so cool to see the creativity of each loc journey. Have a great evening.

Hi beautiful!!! Thanks for another great glimpse into your journey. I’m fascinated by the fact that you recently colored your locs 😱😍💖 I bet they’re GORGEOUS! What color and what products do you use? Would love to check them out. I plan to play with subtle colors when my locs mature. Talk soon!!! Stay safe and well 💕

Thank you. I'll be 48 in April and my roots are totally gray lol. I used Creme of Nature Natural Black permanent hair color. It comes with a great smelling mango and shea butter conditioner. With all hair color it's important to condition your hair often to reduce breakage. I used extra conditioner because my locs are getting longer and I have to section my locs for even coverage. My favorite hair color is any shade of auburn . Unfortunately, my resistant grays won't allow me to get the best out of lighter shades for very long. I can't wait for your next video. Have a great weekend.

You have a beautiful smile!!!!! Thank you for these tips. They were practical and made the most sense to me being 4 weeks into starter locs. Question-Would applying oil to the scalp add to the unraveling of a fresh retwist?

Don't have any tips on re-twisting because I don't re-twist - based on my lifestyle and personal preferences I interlock the roots of my microbraids instead. Nevertheless I thoroughly enjoyed this video. Thank you for keeping it pleasant, informative and interesting.

With my beginner locs, how ² stop the unraveling after re-twist? And, how long it will take before it start locking or dreading? This way when I sweat or they in counter moisture they will stay trained and stay in place

Alexis I have a question please answer. I see a lot of women using some type of gel at the root of their hair when they retwist. My question is if a gel is used to retwist doesn’t it get all nasty and gluey in the locs because of moisturizing daily with rose water.????
@AlexisHarris
@AlexisHarris 3 жыл бұрын
Hey beautiful! That is a phenomenal question. Surprisingly, the answer is no. At least not with my hair. I find that when gel is used during my re-twist, it does not affect the consistency of my roots. Also, this may be because I avoid getting rosewater on my scalp as much as possible in order to preserve the re-twist itself. I feel like if you put too much water on the roots, it will cause your locs to unravel. Sending you lots of love!

That third tip was the most challenging in the beginning of my journey but im alot better now. A tip I could offer from my experience is to use Heritage Rose water and seal with your favorite oil when your scalp or locs feels dry. Its so refreshing, and also this is not loc related but your Pachira, is beautiful. How do you care for it? I have one but its starting to sag. I recently repotted her and she seems to be doing better but I could use any tips you have to provide.
@AlexisHarris
@AlexisHarris 3 жыл бұрын
Love your tips about the rose water and sealing with oil! It’s one of my favorite things to do! Thanks for the compliment about my Pachira. I keep her by the window and give her lots of sunlight. I also water pretty often when the soil feels dry! I’ll be repotting her soon in a larger pot because I want her to flourish!!!

Alexis thank you for answering my question😃. Now I have another one. Lol 🤣. I’m finding when I retwist after my wash and condition that my retwist only lasts 2 days then I’m back to loose fuzzy roots as if I never retwisted. I do use clips when I retwist to hold it and I sit under a heating cap for an hour. I made home made flaxseed gel and it looked great when it was all done but two days later looked like I never retwisted and I do keep my head covered in silk scarf and bonnet to sleep in. What am I doing wrong? 😢
@AlexisHarris
@AlexisHarris 3 жыл бұрын
Hey beautiful!!! 😍 so glad you’re here lol people like you make this community really feel like family! Are you making sure your hair is completely dry before you take your clips out? I’ve always heard hair that isn’t completely dry will unravel incredibly easily.

Hi Tasha, are you using a heating cap or dryer? A heating cap will not dry your hair.
@LoveChrist87
@LoveChrist87 2 жыл бұрын
As Dee Cee said, the heating cap won't dry ur hair - there's no where for the steam from the moisture in ur hair to escape to, it'll just stay trapped around ur hair

Great question! I have a video on how to get your hair to loc faster and I think that will be very helpful to you. There are a few different strategies you can try. Mainly be sure to water and oil your hair for hydration and re-twist anything that unravels
