I think you did a great job adjusting the "punishment" for not guessing every week. As you need an amazing score to be top 3 and that's all that matters the +1 is, as you say, a big punishment but not too punishing to slop someone who just missed a week from competing. For the rules of Harstem vs the world. I think a really good idea would be to only count the top X amount of guesses for each contestant. So if there were 10 episodes perhaps only count the top 8 guesses each person has. That way people can miss a couple of weeks and its not punishing at all, but if you guess every week you get a small advantage. Then like a base punishment of 4 or community average+1 whichever is worse, if you have to fill out guesses if not enough people hit the determined number of guesses. But could also just lower the amount of guesses required to fit as needed.

I absolutely crushed this one with 4 points only! Diamond 2, Gold 3, Masters 1 and Plat 3. I think being a mid tier diamond player gives you a pretty huge advantage compared to being a GM when guessing this though. Judging if someone is much better, a little better, a little worse or much worse than yourself, instead of having to figure out if the players are 1k MMR or 5k MMR lower than you

I think your 'solution 3' is a great solution. Yes, having rule changes mid-competition kind of sucks, but your reasoning was fully justified. And it's not like this is a super high-stakes tournament or that we signed a big, complicated rule book before entering. The fact that the community does so well is a common phenomenon known as "Wisdom of the Crowd". Wisdom of the Crowd? Is it even real? I have seen many examples of mob mentality in my life, but that is pretty much the opposite effect. And it has a well established equation. The intelligence of the crowd equals to the intelligence of the most stupid member of the crowd divided by the number of people in the crowd. ;)

Having the average of the crowd makes it such that those who overestimate will balance out those who underestimate, which is why the community will always perform better than one individual
