Is everything ok with Borodante? Any news or info?

Well, any news is better than none! Nadiia (his wife) replied that they are fine, but no more info. So I think Borodante is just busy with something.

Thanks for updating! I came here to see if there was any news. Glad Nadiia says they're ok. Boro is probably just being too happy and productive to make vids.

Holy shit. This is exactly what I've been looking for. I'm not dexterous enough for the detail finishing in VR waving my hands around in the air.

31:45 I like how, due to the shape and repetition, each set of "eyes" looks like it's displaying a different mood or "facial" expression. There might be a way to incorporate that into the "infinity" theme of your game/art if it makes sense to do so (especially since a human mind trying to REALLY comprehend infinity probably goes through SEVERAL emotions quickly haha).

Probably the algorithm behind the stick texturing is that in the first place it might be using a spline algorithm when you created them, then it can follow the shape when you start to sculpt on it
@LukaBelle6 ай бұрын
Those little vascular twigs on the mask are so cool! I may have missed it, but did you think of adding a subtle ripple texture to the bone to keep the infinity theme? I can't wait to play your game when you're done.

While you were making the mask, I was getting some real "spinal vibes" with ribs coming off of vertebrae and nerves coming out of the gaps. Maybe you could do something with the naturally repeating nature of the spinal column?

I thought shapelab has dyntopo, not voxels. Something that I miss compared to substance modeler. The tentacle brush and stamp tool kinda work to rough stuff out, but dont feel sensitive.

Why is ShapeLabs all-time peak 17 people on SteamDB? Is VR sculpting still such a niche usecase or are other programs like Adobe Substance Modeler 3D so much better?
@BoroCG6 ай бұрын
That seems very unlikely lol Can it be that when Shapelab was changed to Shapelab 2024, they reset things somehow on Steam? I have no idea
@Omili6 ай бұрын
I tried Adobe Substance Modeler and have to say, it has nothing compared to shapelabs. One reason for the low usage in steam is because steam does not offer subscription model which is way better for testing the app and I am pretty sure many users are testing the app for a month and then deciding to buy it or keep the sub on if they want to keep sculpting in VR. VR sculpting is also somewhat new thing and not that widely known. VR just recently also got the boost in popularity for the artists because earlie VR headsets needed cable, were big and heavy, controllers were big and clunky and required lighthouses. Meta Quest 3 literally takes minute to booth and just start sculpting via steam link or other method without the need of cable or lighthouses and the controllers are really small and light. And since you will keep your hands front of the headset almost all the time when sculpting, it is really accurate and rarely has problem that would appear while gaming (hands going out of the view of the cameras on headset).

My main question is how does it cope with high density objects (polycount) - which of course is depending on hardware but, I mean in relation to other sculpting software out there?
@randomsimpson6 ай бұрын
Works okay enough on a laptop with a GeForce GTX 1080ti (which ISN'T designed to support VR anyway. Thanks Virtual Desktop!)

Really interesting piece of software. I´d really love to see the eyes or even the whole mask start normal/human-like at the top and develop more and more to the bottom, what do you think? Also i could imagine a little study from Insect-macro-photography would give some great inspiration for texture and material. Can´t wait to see more !

I still hope they implement a deformer that helps "possing" kind off like a single bone that can be easily placed anyware and auto propagates a mask to anything connected below the pivot and only deforms anything connected after.

I like the new features but don't like the yearly model. I hope I get updates until june now and not until beginning of 2025.
@BoroCG6 ай бұрын
Hmm, actually why though? You pay once, you get one app forever. Why would you be entitled for a full year of updates to begin with? I'm just wondering, since app development has to be paid for somehow, and giving you the current version forever is something not to take for granted in 2024 imho
@rickysargulesh10536 ай бұрын
@@BoroCG I understand it has to be paid. But when I bought the app the development was very slow and now that it finally gets some much needed features I have to pay for it again.

@rickysargulesh1053 If you already owned a copy (at least on Steam) it should be automatically updated to ShapeLab 2024.

@martiiin32106 ай бұрын
do you have success with Kodon? Because it just kept crashing on me, shapelab has so much more going for it, especially stability wise. Kodon breaks so often when even just undoing things.
@randomsimpson6 ай бұрын
To be fair they're both pretty early in development still (I think), so they BOTH suck for now. I don't have a headset that runs Substance, but I imagine it's better than both. Kodon's voxel modeling is sooo good though.

@parsec3d5 ай бұрын
kodon looks good in paper but have had bad experiences last time I've tried, unstable, apparently not optimized to run smoothly so pretty uncomfortable to use at least on the same hardware shape lab runs super smooth
