I just love your videos, they have helped me so much. I do have a question regarding bottle feeding, how long should you bottle feed the babies? I picked up a momma and her little buck. He's pretty big now, 2-3 months and he's still nursing. His momma has been exposed, not sure on her time line. I am new to goats and haven't gotten any solid dates from the breeder. Can you help?

I know this video is over a year old and someone asked about how much and how often a 2 day old kid needs to be fed with a bottle. You replied that you were going to handle all that info in an upcoming video. I was wondering if you did the video and if you could let me know how to find it? If no video yet, can you let me know how many ounces of milk and how often a baby kid would need to start with and then an average amount and time’s going forward? Thank you 😊

If your goat has a prolapse I'd say call a Vet ASAP as far as I know it's a very particular procedure, on getting bit back in and if left out for to Long can cause infection and kill your goat.

I noticed my young goats went to hay super fast. They hit up their moms but I could have easily separated them and it would have been fine. I didnt but Im leaning to your logic. I notice they are biting their mom causing bleeding.

I do not have goats yet but planning for next year. I live in 5 acres and only plan on ever having one goat bred at a time. if She only has one kid and I start pulling her off and bottle feeding her but she’s not separated from the mom will I still be able to wean her? OR i assume if She has two kids I need to completely separate them in a different pen? I hope this makes sense. Also If I plan to keep any kids and once they are weaned they can all be together again, right? Thanks, and I love your channel.

It would be impossible to wean a kid if they are with their dam. Even if you do bottle feed. If you only have one baby and still milk your doe out every morning and night. I wouldn't separate a baby by itself though.

PS I currently have my FIRST set of goats! I got a Mama and her baby when baby was 1 day old.... she is about 10 weeks now and I haven’t separated because they would be lonely and she’s stillll nursing and I can barely get her to eat hay or the organic grain! I don’t know what to do at this point! Is it too late to start milking? I ordered some tape to tape mamas teats but it hasn’t come yet.... the reason it took so long for me to get prepared was because my friend had to suddenly give me the goats and I had NOTHING started from scratch and I just didn’t know what to buy or what to do.... please help!

I would separate them. I dont believe the tape works well but hopefully it will for you. Trouble with allowing them to nurse for so long is, it can be close to impossible for them to break that habit. She may try nursing after mama kids again and take the milk from the babies. It wont hurt them to be separated for a while. If you an on milking her and keeping her in milk, then I hope the tape works! She may not have much milk left at this point. If you dry her up, then separate until shes dry.

Hello! The ones we retain, we add to the big doe pen around 4 to 5 months old. We train them to the electric fence before introducing them to the big does too.

Hi, my question is when you separate them, about how far away from the moms are they? Do you move them out of their line of sight or can the moms see them? Wondering if they should be out of sight for it to not be stressful on them.

If you pull at birth. The kids don't know any better and the does will scream for a day or so. If you wait until the kids are 2 or 3 months old to separate. The kids and does will scream for weeks. A visual barrier and ear plugs will help. - Derek

Ms. Crystal, My Dad's herd management for our herd was very similar. Usually by day three after delivery the calf was in a calf hut. There were a few exceptions over the years. Cows that, for reasons that I cannot remember at the moment, he would put calves on and let them milk the cow.

Thank you Crystal. The babies are 3 weeks now, i really want to separate them as i feel we are not getting as much milk. I have noticed both the girls only allowing the kids on at selective times. Im assuming they are slowly weaning. The kids have become interested in hay and a small amount of their mothers feed. Would it be best to start the separation at night, then let them with their mothers during the day? Really appreciate your advice. We have triplets and a single. In my experience cold turkey separation works best! I have done the over night separating as well. It does, however seem to prolong the inevitable:). If you do decide to do that, give the babies free range access to hay. They will begin eating much more of it. And yes, at three weeks dams begin to stop allowing kids to eat as much because she knows they need to start eating hay.

We only bring the ba ies in if needed. Cold weather, sick or small kid, etc. They do very well with being outside :)

Its not natural to seperate any baby animal from its mother. They share a bond like any other animal on this planet. How would humans like this practice ?

@Jillousa I do raise dairy goats. I keep the kids with their mothers and let them raise their kids naturally as any other mammal does. The kids grow faster and are happier sharing that special bond with their mother. If I want some goat milk , I just place the kid in an pen next to mom overnite and take milk from the doe in the morning . The kid is then put back in with its mom. I cant think of any animal on the planet, including humans that isnt with his mother when born and grows. Humans rip the babies from their mom at birth , so unnatural !

I have a hard time being ok with separating them so young. It's no different than the mass produced milk cows when their babies are taken from them right away. Animals feel emotion and attachment and you are causing such stress to those mama goats, to all really. All for the sake of you having the milk that is meant for her babies. SAD.

You are very uneducated in regards to livestock, especially goats. I think before you assume greed is the motivation here, you should do some research on WHY people separate and why a some customers would prefer or require a bottle fed kid over a dam raised.
