The first time I've heard a Weezer song was Ruling Me in the videogame Need For Speed. I liked it so I started to listen to the whole album. Back then (I was 14) I thought that bands evolve, so newer albums will always be better than older albums. And I also had this thing that I would listen to the same album for 1-2 months, get bored of it and then move to the next one. So I went to Raditude, then Red Album and so on. Imagine my reaction when I got to Pinkerton and Blue.

@forward2351 completely agree with you. I love to see the smile of George Garcia in the album. For me Hurley album is not a bad album, I would call it an unnecessary album. I think Weezer rushed out this album after the Raditude disaster but when you listen to it carefully you feel a pleasant experience. It has very good tracks without a doubt. In my case, maybe I'm not the best person to ask because I love every Weezer album no matter what.

It actually is. If you crunch the numbers, Hurley's metacritic score is almost bang on their average. I have a PowerPoint on this matter. *Edit: On a related note, Sonic's most Metacritic average game is tied between Sonic Heroes and Sonic 4: Ep 1, the latter of which also came out in 2010. That was just a very mid year all around.

Hurley is the ONLY Weezer album I HAVEN'T listened to in full. Memories is the only song off this album that I will listen to every once in awhile, but no other songs could hold my attention. This album has always felt like an outlier to me. Yeah, it can be lumped in with Weezer's red album era, but it doesn't feel the same. Red is an underated album, Raditude is ..., and Hurley just exists. Plus I don't want to look at Hurley's face. Does not go hard like a jumping dog or 4 white men standing in front of a solid color.

Hurley is a strange album but I really like it. It has some nice energy and at least feels more like Weezer than Raditude did. “Brave New World” is one of my favorite Weezer songs and helped me when this album was released, as I had been dumped by girlfriend, lost my job, and was considering moving out of state to start again. It was a crazy time but this album made it more bearable and that track reminded me it was time to take a chance a big chance, I moved, got a great job, and met my wife, so that brave new world was exactly what I needed. For that alone I will always have a soft spot for this record.

I don’t care how not-very-good Hurley is, I love it. I probably like Hurley more than Weezer themselves do. It might just be personal connection to it, and I probably would’ve hated it if I’d been as old as I am now when it released, but it speaks to me on a level most of Weezer’s catalog doesn’t. Hello. I love weezer unconditionally and My favorite album actually is Hurley. I Bought the alblum's deluxe cd and enjoy everytrack. With "I want to be something" being my favorite weezer song at the moment. I don't get the hate on the album at all. But maybe it has to do with love of the blue album and pinkteron sound. I could talk about this all day But my favorite albums all come from the same era, Hurely, Raditude, Red, makebelive, and of course their objectively best album Pinkerton(specifically deluxe(I'm a songs from the black hole fan))

So I recently went through a thing I dubbed "Project Weezer". It was very simple, just listening to every Weezer album in chronological order over a period of weeks. I did this after realizing I basically had a Weezer song from every album in my Spotify, but had never actually listened to one of their albums in full. When the time came to listen to Hurley, I was dreading it. But afterwards, I pretty much came away with the same mentality you did. "Huh, yeah that was fine. Not bad at all...except for Where's My Sex which was bad". The only new talking point I can add is that I really liked "Brave New World". I think the guitar work is pretty sick and was an earlier example of the sound they'd end up developing for "Everything Will Be Alright In The End"(one of my top 5 favorites from them).

As somebody who doesn't feel like there's a "bad" Weezer album (I am even pretty up on Raditude) I have to say Hurley is actually a favorite. Not my Top 5 but it's up in the higher half, and it's really just a special oddball. There's something in the immediacy of it, it's not to say that it feels rushed, but more like it feels as if it is rushing? It has energy that I have trouble putting into words. He also entirely redid “ye” (and I think Kids See Ghosts too) within less than a month or so after (for the most part) completely scrapping or fundamentally changing songs that were going to be on the now unreleased album “love everyone”

Damn I literally listened to this album like two days ago when I decided to give the 2000s Weezer albums a try again. Interestingly, my opnions of this album are (as with most things connected to Weezer) different from the mainstream/funbase. "Trainwrecks" is an amaizing song and the one I have been listening to for a long time now., if I had a Weezer cover band, I would probably play it on every show (probably segway from My Name is Jonas).. The other song that caught my interest on the album is actually "Where's My Sex?" because it sounds like a Weird Al parody of Pinkerton done with Green/Maladroit style production. Upon this listening, I came to then conclusion that "Hurley" is a bad album *for Weezer*, but if I was told this is first/second album of a random new band I would actually be interested in what they would release next.

I don't think I'd ever say Hurley is my favourite Weezer album (mostly because Weezer's other albums are so great) but I never thought of it as particularly mediocre either. That was reserved for DtFM and PD in my mind. Hurley was always a nice album. "Time Flies," "Memories," "Smart Girls," and "Unspoken" were all regular plays when I was in middle school, and I listened to "Run Away" quite a bit after I broke up with my ex. This is the most pathetic detail I've ever revealed in my life.

Hurley was the first full album I listened to from Weezer when I was in third grade, not counting times that I heard them in compilations or on the radio. While it's far from the band's best work, I have a soft spot for it primarily because of nostalgia. The album does have some great tracks, and it gets too much hate for what it is.

genuinely, Hurley is one of my favorite Weezer albums (not including where's my sex, that one can go away please) but the rest of the album is really cool! All my friends are insects is probably my favorite on the album because of that weird little starting bit and then the change to the typical rock when the lyrics come in. its short and sweet and it gets stuck in my head a lot. I want to be something, memories, ruling me, time flies, brave new world, and hell, even their cover of viva la vida are great and while i can defiantly see why someone wouldn't like the album, i think its sick!

I love Hurley. I remember seeing a Todd in the Shadows video when I was a kid, probably from 2010 or 2011, where he says Rivers Cuomo has a knack for writing a catchy hook if nothing else. I think Hurley is the greatest testament to that.

I always thought it was a shame that Hurley got tied up in the Red and Raditude group of bad albums. I won't say it's my favorite, not every song is great, but the energy you get from Ruling Me, Unspoken, and Hang On especially are fantastic, and hold up next to other albums good tracks.
