Honestly, I liked 2.0 Paradise Pier. I think adding the context of historical place making made a lot of sense. In some ways, I don’t fully understand why they decided it needed yet another change to Pixar Pier. So, my current concern is that designers are over thinking DCA 2.5. I think they need to think about whether change is necessary. Because marketing pushes the emotional ties to the park, if the changes are too frequent, children have no reason to comeback with their grandchildren. Thank you, Jim, for this video and for your hard work on this park over the years.

@willrontani58943 ай бұрын
@@danielspencer1923 I’m not saying, I dislike it. I just don’t understand why they went through the effort of changing to Pixar Pier in 2018 when Paradise Pier in 2009 fixed many of the initial problems. My guess is Disney Consumer Products wanted more characters in the park. And this was the cheapest way to do it, moving Bugs Land to make room for Marvel. But it wasn’t needed or necessary. Marvel could have easily gone into the Hollywood Backlot or someplace else.

DCA 1.0 to me was really half-baked. Maybe if DisneySea in Tokyo never existed (especially since it debuted the same year of 2001) I'd have been & would be an easier grader. But Paradise Pier in particular (1.0 & even 2.0) seemed noticeably weak. It was too much like a slightly guzzied-up version of something at a Six Flags park. As for the Hollywood Backlot, that's mostly unused space that's themed to a warehouse. So replacing it with an Avatar land would be good. But not if it forces the Red Car to become defunct. However, the expansion of Avengers Campus is reportedly the reason for that. Also, removing the Monsters Inc attraction is not ideal since DCA doesn't have enough dark rides to begin with.
@danielspencer19233 ай бұрын
@@willrontani5894 I think they did it because Pixar characters are popular. I like that it Disneyfies that area of the park. I hope they put Coco there

Thank you Jim, it's always so great to hear you provide the background behind the Disney Parks and point out the quirks we may not have noticed (like the tile in the bathrooms!). I personally was hoping they would put Avatar in the Simba lot because I'm hoping they re-theme the Pixar Place Hotel as the Pandora Hotel and make it look like a scientist research base on Pandora. It's an unattractive building as seen from the park but I think with cosmetic changes like paint, a helicopter from the movies up on the roof, satellite dishes and other tech details, floating Pandora rocks around it, and lush landscaping...they could transform this building into a "themed landmark" similar to Mission Breakout and it would no longer be an awkward 1980s hotel intruding into the theme park.
@jimhshull3 ай бұрын
I’m of the belief that another hotel will be built alongside the Pixar Place Hotel instead of theme park expansion. Keeping the DCA expansion within the existing park boundaries will save money because TWDC will not have to built a bridge for guests and for park services.

You mention that the new Avatar land might go into the Hollywood backlot. Doesn’t the monorail make this difficult? I’m a bigger fan of the indies of putting Avatar into the South Simba parking lot instead. I’m curious about your take on that? Do you think Disney might consider routing the Red Car trolley to Pixar Pier? Didn’t the trolleys originally take Angelenos to the beaches in the 1930’s?
@jimhshull3 ай бұрын
Moving a portion of the monorail will cost less than building a guest and service bridge over Disneyland Drive. That move would result in DCA gaining more land for growth which the park needs. When DCA first opened it was only around 55 acres although it has expanded since then. Thanks for watching.

Theyre gonna have to use the transportation hub as a walkway to the new parking lots they acquired across harbor. Whole Hollywoodland rumor has been based off a "trust me bro' when the Disneyforward art clearly has a tropical setting in Simba's lot. Idk not that hard to conect the dots

I think is disturbs those of us who watched the original park being built from Disneyland park vantage points because there was a lot of good in the original 2 iterations. The truth of the matter is the Original Disneyland park that Walt build doesn’t really look like the park today. It’s been though MANY changes. Many of them today’s fan doesn’t even know about because they were either not born or came later to the party. It’s all good.

Takes Disney 3-4 years to overhaul a couple of buildings at Epcot into a couple of High school food cafeterias. A whole new land in California could be 4-5 years

Less than 5% that Grizzly River and Redwood Trail being replaced by Avatar. Both are fine attractions as they stand (although adding a few animated critters and bears would make the ride more memorable). Thanks for watching.

In addition, what you would do with the Hollywood backlot if it does not become home to Avatar? It sounds like there are a lot of issues to work out no matter what ends up happening.

Always enjoy watching your videos - I suppose it is similar to why I like the aspects of the park. I love the discovery and nostalgia of a forgotten and seldom experienced spaces when you grow up in the sprawl of post world war 2 America. The original DCA was lacking, but the deeper dive with Buena Vista Street and Paradise Pier improved the experience. I had always felt more could have been done with the Cannery portion of the park with the addition of a water flume ride or dark ride based on perhaps Mulan or Big Trouble in Little China. Disney has some decent corner stones in the park to build from. It takes time to build nostalgia and in some cases the nostalgia is accelerated with a successful trilogy. But with fast growth and popularity, it may be followed with famine or a dry period. I am not sold with the idea of Avatar, but I'll take the wait and see approach. Sure these parks can include any IP or whatsoever, but what will last for generations. Any half a billion investment in the park will be planted there for a long time. Choose wisely! What makes New Orleans Square as interesting as intriguing as it is (Opinion) . No single attraction stands above the rest, but some reason it seamlessly blends with the rest of the park. Faced with some of the same logistical issues that the Hollywood plot presents., although I feel Coco and a Mexican Plaza experience would be a better compliment to the geography of Hollywoodland. So Avatar have it own land or should it be a big (disguised) show building in Tomorrowland. If it goes into Hollywoodland - it may not offer any opportunity for a second attraction in the future. But hey a new parking structure to the east could offer a return of a modern day people mover system. Great video!

I enjoy your videos I thank you for taking the time to make them I think they're very informative and a little entertaining. Also even with the transportation hub do you believe they do not need to remove the theater at the end of the road or even the building with turtle talk inside
@jimhshull2 ай бұрын
Entertainment is a strong champion of keeping the theater even with its faults such as lack of interior toilets which limit of the show length. Disney Animation is likewise safe unless TWDC wants to expand Avengers Campus, although with its expansion that land will have four rides which these days makes a full land.

I don’t know why they would announce something so early if it wouldn’t be open for over 5 years. Seems strange to me. Also strange is how Disney so easily wastes money. There’s not proper long term planning..especially for DCA. To spend all that money tearing up the street, installing overhead wire, having the red cars designed and built, for such a relatively short time then tear it out now, shows how rudderless Disney is these days. Additionally, by shoehorning Avatar into that space, they limit the potential. Think how much grander it could be if it were built near the hotels with all that parking lot. Of course that is an issue as well, as they need to build a massive amount of parking somewhere else to make up for that. Really don’t like how Disney does things these days and I tend to not be happy with most of their decisions anymore. It saddens me as to what they have become.
