Something clicks for me every bjj class.... it's usually my knee
@BobasLife3 жыл бұрын
I’m a white belt only started a week ago and I can see a difference from day 1 where I was getting choked out and submitted left and right. To now literally 4 -5 classes later holding guard and able to get a submission here and there (against other new people). It’s unlike any other art form we roll every class for like 45 mins. In my Karate school for example we may spare once a week at most. BJJ definitely feels like trying to drink from a fire hose. Just gotta keep showing up!

I'm still waiting for it to click. I have glimpses of hope and then it seems like I'm going backwards, then ill feel like I'm progressing again. Kinda weird cause I know I am way better than I was when I first started, but I'm also pretty hard on myself. Been consistantly training for around year and half and still rocking a no stripe white belt.

Just keep at it! I can't tell you how many training partners use to smash me, but now they have all quit. Guess who does the smashing now 😈. It's about the marathon, not the sprint!

white belt 2-3 years in, still bjj dose not click with me in terms of sweeping and top pressure, survival and escapes are fine...
@ChasenHill2 жыл бұрын
It will click one day! Usually, you don't even realize it's happening. Sweeping usually is developed before top pressure. Top pressure is normally developed at later belts, due to the fact you are on top more while training 😀 Keep up the hard training! I'm a fairly new brown belt with almost 10 years of training. I go through phases of "clicking" and long periods of what feel like plateaus. I've come to realize that even during those plateaus there is progress, but it feels stagnant because my training partners are all advancing as well. I shared your early enthusiasm when first introduced to bjj. It was cool to hear your story.

Thanks for the vid, Chasen! I liked hearing your thoughts on the progression through the belts. A week after my 49th birthday in March, I had my first bjj class. I thankfully had watched a Jocko Willink video before where he said be prepared to get sumbitted 400-500 times before you submit anyone of any stature. That prepared me a little for what I was in for. I've been hurt twice fairly significantly already, and am just getting back to normal after the second time. Thankfully, I was able to still roll. Jiu jitsu is the hardest thing I've ever willingly signed on to do. I'm a one stripe white belt, and I've wanted to quit hundreds of times. It's been a combination of things like, I'm too damn old for this, and feeling like I take one step forward then a thousand back. But I'm utterly obsessed with jiu jitsu. Little things have clicked, with breathing enough being the most important. Before that, I would tap because I felt like I was suffocating and would panic. Having "T-Rex arms" and immediately defending the choke are other big things that are getting ingrained into me. My biggest awakening is the concept of when I'm defending, getting my knees and elbows into spaces between myself and my partner. Just this morning, my purple belt coach got me in a high mount. I wedged my right elbow between his thigh and my rib cage, and was able to "peel" him off of me. I also got my first succesful D'arce choke submission this morning against another white belt. I like that choke a lot and hopefully it can become a "go to" for me. Each time I learn somethingb it seems I realize how much more I don't know about bjj. Guess that's why I have to keep showing up, which I'm totally planning on doing. Getting my black belt in my mid 60's would be badass!

Three years. White belt, going on my 4th year. I worked full time and drank most of the first few years honestly lol. I had a ton of fun but honestly I wasn't too consistent nor serious about progressing, I really just want to be there and around new friends. 3rd year, due to the pandemic, I studied, drilled and rolled at home. Everything made sense once I started studying the moves and techniques to get a deep understanding of them. I also quit drinking, started lifting weights again and plan on earning my Blue belt upon my return sometime during the summer once Covid comes down some more.

I'm a 2 month old white belt out of Triforce MMA in Rhode island. Loving it but dying endurance wise during rolls. This has gotten better though as I pick up basic concepts like grip fighting without a death grip, looking for underhooks, being semi-aware of my breathing, and having a couple positions I work towards. Still covered in sweat. Luckily I have the best team that I could ask for. They let me work with some space to try things during rolls and are always ready to teach something or answer a question. Even my white belt counterparts are super dope. I'm excited to gain more access to the game.

Currently a white belt. My level is: - I can smash anybody who walks in the door their first day and they think I'm some ninja - I can sub some of the white belts that have been training for a few months - I can survive and not get subbed by most white belts - I get subbed by 3-4 stripe white belts that I have no idea why they're not blue yet - I can only survive against a blue belt if they're way smaller than me, but I can't catch them on anything. But I do give them a hard time - Seasoned Blue belts, and Purple belt and above there's literally nothing I can do... they can roll in slow motion and just give me things and there's 0 chance I'm doing shit I honestly can't tell the difference between a good purple belt and a black belt. It all feels the same to me. I don't think much has "clicked" because there's still a bunch of positions, especially in nogi where we do leglocks, that I have no clue what the fuck is going on or what I'm supposed to be doing
