Darnold should probably start all of 2024, and he might even earn a big paycheck (for another team) like Mayfield did. I think McCarthy is a big question mark, and young. In today's NFC North, it could be several years until the Vikings are contending for the division.

Either McCarthy is just the obvious starter come week 1 or he’s the backup all season imho if he’s not 100% ready week 1 then he’s not miraculously going to be ready mid season while taking 2nd team reps and the Vikings should have a plan and that plan shouldn’t be throwing a rookie in mid season and hoping he can salvage something that sounds desperate and I don’t want my team to be the jets or falcons those are desperate teams dumpster fires

@@roryolson61 in the NFL there's the starter and there's the backup if your trying to make both of them starters then you become the Jets, falcons or Washington when they drafted 2 QB's one being Kirk its called a dumpster fire hahaha one of these guys will win the job in mini camps and he will be prepped to be the starter and will get the full attention of the coaching staff if JJ isn't ready to run this offense he very well could be 3rd behind Hall or Mullens I suggest they do not start hi8m until they are positive he's the guy and can give him the full attention needed

If McCarthy isn’t the week one starter, then the Vikings are likely in trouble. Darnold is almost certainly a fringe starter at the very best. The Vikings probably don’t win more than 5 or 6 games if he starts the whole season. I love the optimism around Darnold but it isn’t realistic. Guy has underpeformed his whole career. He sees ghosts. A QB that is easily rattled has a very low ceiling in the NFL. If McCarthy isn’t starting then we either have a situation where he isn’t a good NFL QB or a head coach refusing to start the better player (like Chandler last season).
