I Had Right Knee Replacement 13 months ago. I can 130 degrees and sometimes 135.. Iam diabetic so yes you are correct, healing time is longer. I still feel a bit of pain but I also still ice it which helps. Going up the stairs is ok but going down , I still work at it.. this procedure just very painful. I thought I will never walk again. That’s how painful this was.. it took me a long time to stop using the walker and using a cane but I never gave up. I really push myself not to the extreme that I can hurt my knee but everyday did and still do exercise. Sometimes the knee can feel stiff but just a bit but once I do the exercise it goes away. I hope that whoever is reading this and they are going through a hard time I want them to know that they will get better you just need to apply yourself. And never give up no matter what. Good luck to everyone who gets these knee replacement .

Thank you so much for sharing this @yolandadilan4064. I agree that knee replacement can be a very painful process. The surgery not as much but the recovery can be brutal. I have seen this in patients through the years. We give our patients all the motivation and support that we can. It is hard to see the light at the end of the tunnel when you are at the beginning of the tunnel similar to your experience. I applaud👏you for your courage and determination. You put in all the hard work. Having diabetes made it more challenging for you. And still you overcame that. What you have accomplished is amazing even if it took you longer. What matters is you got the result that you want. One suggestion for the stairs. It is expected that going down is more difficult in knee replacements. I suggest focusing on strengthening your quads. It can be as simple as doing leg extensions with progressive weights and do squats progressing from double leg to single leg. Also check out my video on climbing stairs. Having the right mechanics can help make negotiating stairs easier. Hope these help.🙏

Thank you for this video. It is encouraging. I had total knee replacement in Feb 2022. After 8 weeks of home therapy, I fell and broke my hip! I had surgery on the hip but NOT a hip replacement. Because of the location of the break they inserted a metal rod in my hip. I went to a rehab facility for 2 months, then had home therapy for about 6 weeks. I have now been going to out patient therapy since last August. My knee is doing pretty well. I can bend it but still have a bit of trouble with straightening the leg completely. And my knee tends to turn inward making my walk awkward. Most of my pain now is in the outside of my hip and in the glutes. The therapists say I am very stiff. I can walk but I use a cane when not at home, but I am pretty slow. I would appreciate your comments.

So sorry to hear this @marylinanderson9556. It is tough enough going through a knee replacement. And to add an ORIF to your hip, that adds more to your challenge. I can see that you are tough and you are putting in the effort to go to therapy. Regarding your knee, I will focus on getting rid of the extension lag. Without the knee straight, it is hard to get rid of the limp. As for the hip, make sore to focus on strengthening the glutes max and medium muscles. The glutes medius helps with getting rid of the limp and helps with the stability. It also prevents your knee from turning inwards when walking. I also suggest some soft tissue work on the hip and buttock area which may help with the pain. These are just some general suggestions based on your condition. Your therapist will be able to assess what other imbalances you have and address them accordingly. Wish you the best.🙏

Hello Reggie, I am 17 months of TKR, ortho MD said I have scar tissue, I have good ROM, He said weather the storm. Hard to stiff walking

I'm sorry to hear this Harry. 17 months post op is pretty far out. Good news is you have good ROM. Is it at least 110 deg or more? How about your strength? The scar tissue can be causing the pain that you are feeling. Do you have swelling and inflammation still? These can cause the pain as well. At your stage, you don't expect swelling and inflammation to still be there. If they are, it should be minimal. I hope this helps.

I’m getting a TKR in 1.5 weeks. Pretty knarly to think about. There’re sending me home “day after” surgery- My apartment stairs is up 20 steps. Seems like a longer stay would be in order- I stayed in longing when I had my tonsils out as a kid!
@restorepluspt
@restorepluspt Жыл бұрын
Dear Eliz49, I understand what you mean. Keeping you for a day or two if there are no complications is getting to be pretty common procedure now here in the US. Insurance companies incentivizes the hospitals to do that. You as a patient still has a say in that matter though. You can tell your doctor that you want to be sent to a subacute facility so you can get therapy there. Home PT is just not the same. Also for safety issues since you have 20 steps especially if you live alone. Discuss this with the social worker and the doctor and see if they can arrange that. Wish you the best of luck in your surgery. 🙏

I had a TKR 22 days ago. I was sent home the next day. You'll do fine with the stairs. We don't have a bathroom on the first floor and I went up the stairs 30 minutes after I was home without any issues. I go up and down the stairs several times a day. You will quickly adapt to how best to get around.

Its been 5 months of acl surgery and When I get up from bed, I see my knee swelling around patela and knee tight,,, how to get rid from this ??
@restorepluspt
@restorepluspt Жыл бұрын
Sorry to hear this @subhamrai9963. I suggest a couple of things: check with your surgeon if the graft is healing well. Make sure hour hamstrings and quads are strong especially your hamstrings. You can take Turmeric to help your body control the inflammation and use heat/cold. Wish you the best!🙏

4 months I had tkr surgery.Why the outter side of my knee is paining
@restorepluspt
@restorepluspt Жыл бұрын
Good question Srabasti. I see this in the clinic. In some patients it is the inner side while others it is the outer side like yours. It is connected to the inflammation on the knee after the surgery. That is not uncommon after TKR. Feel better.🙏
