Ashira I'adonai; ki gaoh ga-ah; (I will sing to my Lord because He is exalted above the arrogant) Mi-cha-mo-cha ba-e-lim adonai (Who is like You among the heavenly powers, my Lord?) Nachita v'chas-d'-cha am zu ga-alta (You guided this nation in Your Kindness You have redeemed [them]) Those three Hebrew lines are slightly off. Otherwise, this is beautiful! Thank you!
@ABZB137 жыл бұрын
Both the translation they gave and your translation are within the bounds of the meanings of the text... There is a lot of room for both when considering the literal meanings of those words in Biblical Hebrew, much less their connotation webs and idioms. For example, "gaoh ga-ah" arguably has both meanings - both words stem from the same root, one that conjugates into words meaning arrogant as well as words meaning exalted. That particular phrase can either be read as a Hebrew idiom literally meaning along the lines of "Exaltingly exalted" (the structure equivalent to verbingly verb conveying an intensification of the verb) or "exalted above the arrogant". In most but not all cases the difference (in biblical Hebrew, at least) is indicated by a [n often] subtle change to one of the vowels, to the point where the difference is all but ignored by modern readers. Aside from the debates in some cases over which precise vowelization is the correct one. Which is exacerbated by that the grammar was only formalized a millenia and a half after the text first was written. That said, I would translate the following three lines as follows, to better retain the intent of the Hebrew: Ashira I'adonai; ki gaoh ga-ah; (I will sing to the Lord for he is very Exalted/Triumphant;) Mi-cha-mo-cha ba-e-lim adonai (Who is like you amongst the Mighty, O Lord?) - 'elim' is one of the terms in biblical Hebrew that is used in the sense of 'deities'. 'El' and its plural 'Elim' literally mean 'mighty one(s)' - El is a common appellation for God. (In fact, this is why Superman was given the name Kal-el, depending on exactly what they were thinking with the first term, it's probably either "gentle/soft Mighty One", "As a mighty Mighty One", or even "Mighty One Mighty One".) Nachita v'chas-d'-cha am zu ga-alta (You in your Love have led this people you have redeemed.) - The literal and even idiomatic translations of "Nachita v'chas-d'-cha" are... difficult because the biblical Hebrew words for various kinds of mercy, kindness, and love don't have very accurate equivalents in English (and often get translated... oddly as a result). It's much less confusing and easier to go with a generic 'love'. I'm not sure where 'children' came from there. 'Am' is a people, 'goy' is a nation, "banecha" would be Your children...

Nung bata ako pangarap kong naging nurse pero nung lumaki ako nagbago na, and now graduate na ako at katatapos ko lang nagtake ng PNLE, this week lalabas yung result and i'm here para pakinggan ulit yung song para hindi ako mawalan ng pagasa. Amazing to think about how the same God that brought His people out of Egypt with incredible miracles is the same God who will take care of you if you trust in Him. This was a stunningly beautiful tribute to those who lost their lives in the war and to their loved ones who went on living without them. At 2:20 into the video, a cross is shown with the name Francis E. Cazayoux Jr. I looked him up on Google and found the soldier instantly. He died at the age of 21 in August of 1944. He was single at the time of his death with no dependents. It was a moving experience to find him, one soul out of so many who lost everything. Here I sit at my computer 73 years later peering into a minute portion of this man's life. I said a prayer for him. (His above-stated-age was corrected to 21 years old after another viewer, Exit Only, discovered my error. Thank you, Exit.)

Marcus Erroneous. Forgive me, but that cannot be the correct man you found. The average age of soldiers in WW2 was 26 years old. And that's including older officers and generals into the average. Most infantry soldiers were younger than than that. The Army would never have a 62 year old PFC as a front line infantryman trying to keep up with 18-21 year olds, while carrying up to 80-100 pounds of gear in combat. Francis E. Cazayoux Jr. was a medic. No 62 year-old man would have the stamina and strength to haul and tend wounded soldiers in combat under fire. Here's what I found: Private First Class Francis E. Cazayoux (ASN: 18149233), United States Army, was awarded the Silver Star (Posthumously) for gallantry in action while serving as a Medical Aidman with the Medical Detachment, 18th Infantry Regiment, 1st Infantry Division in the European Theater of Operations during World War II. General Orders: Headquarters, 1st Infantry Division, General Orders No. 96 (1944) Service: Army Rank: Private First Class Company: Medical Detachment Regiment: 18th Infantry Regiment Division: 1st Infantry Division valor.militarytimes.com/recipient.php?recipientid=69963

Exit. Sorry I answered your first comment before I realized you had more to say, and that you found all that info. That's the same info I found. I saw that same website, and then I looked at some other info I found on the net. Also found some info on his family, also an obituary for one of his sisters. He was either a baker or a baker's helper in civilian life, and as I recall, his father was a lawyer. Like I said, if you want to dig a little deeper to confirm or disconfirm the info I found, let me know what you find.

I can't hold my tears while listening to this. 😢 We need this kind of faith/miracles in this year 2022. I love this song very much. And it kind of means a lot for me. I especially love the Hebrew part. That's the part I start crying. This song reminds me of my past away grandparents. So much lovely memories are flying by. I miss them so much. I hope they're proud of me for where I am right now in my life. 😢

Several times I’ve had to babysit my little grandson. Before he learned to crawl, he wanted to be held all the time or cried. He is also very attached to his mom. I would put him on my lap and sit in front of the TV with KZbin One Voice songs-one after another. He would sit there, captivated, for up to 1-1 1/2 hours. He loves One Voice. It saved me from having a crying baby the whole time. Great music, singers, conductor!!!!! Thank you!!!!

One of my favourite songs, and beautifully performed by everyone involved. I hope that it is dedicated to ALL the soldiers who lost their lives and/or suffered the traumas of war during D-Day, and not just the Allies? Most of them were young boys who were just obeying orders and didn't know any better. I say that as an English girl whose grandfather served active duty abroad for Britain throughout WW2.

This is a very beautiful cover. I joined a children's choir back then at my church, and we sang this song during a charity night. And since the Hebrew language is not common in my country, I guess I've been pronouncing it wrong all this time. I am 21 this year and still loving every bit of this song. "When You Believe" Many nights we've prayed With no proof anyone could hear In our hearts a hopeful song We barely understood Now we are not afraid Although we know there's much to fear We were moving mountains Long before we knew we could [Chorus:] There can be miracles When you believe Though hope is frail It's hard to kill Who knows what miracles You can achieve When you believe Somehow you will You will when you believe In this time of fear When prayer so often proves in vain Hope seemed like the summer birds Too swiftly flown away Yet now I'm standing here My heart's so full, I can't explain Seeking faith and speaking words I never thought I'd say [Chorus:] There can be miracles When you believe Though hope is frail It's hard to kill Who knows what miracles You can achieve When you believe Somehow you will You will when you believe Hebrew: Ashira I'adonai; ki gaoh ga-ah; Ashira I'adonai; ki gaoh ga-ah; Mi-cha-mo-cha ba-e-lim adonai Mi kamocha nedar ba kodesh; Nachita v'chas-d'-cha am zu ga-alta Nachita v'chas-d'-cha am zu ga-alta Ashira, ashira, Ashira Ashira I'adonai; ki gaoh ga-ah; Ashira I'adonai; ki gaoh ga-ah; Mi chamocha baelim adonai; Mi kamocha nedar ba kodesh; Nachita v'-chas-d'cha am zu ga-alta Nachita v'-chas-d'cha am zu ga-alta Ashira, ashira, Ashira French: On peut faire des miracles Avec la foi Gardons espoir Il faut y croire La foi peut faire tomber Tous les obstacles La foi fait faire Tant de miracles Des miracles On en fait quand on croit On en fait quand on croit
I don't believe in any religions, but I very much agree that this is a beautiful song. Lack of faith does not mean lack of ability to appreciate beauty.
