Thanks Yogev for the amazing breakdowns, they are incredible!! King Crimsons Thrak from their double trio in the early 90's where one half of the trio played in 5 and the other trio played in 7. Cool stuff! What still gets me every time is their song Sex, Sleep, Eat, Drink, Dream where they all put down straight 4/4 but then for a drum type chorus Bill Bruford goes off into a 16th note triplet grouped into a 5 swing triplet thingy..... hearing the two snares of different pitches modulate through that is awesome. Crazy how such an in the shadows band had such a huge influence on the evolution of music, but there are LOTS of those guys i suppose.

I used this polyrhythm for the second half of an EDM track called Eris & Dysnomia. Soft synth plucks for the 5, top drums for the 7. Then the bass comes in with a 3 note arpeggio, which finally settles in when the 4-on-the-floor kick comes in. By the time all the elements are present, the shadow of a melody begins to loom overhead, followed by two drops: one emphasizing 3, the next emphasizing 4.

it's just a pattern in 13, going 3-2-4-4 (and subdivided further into 2-1, 2, 2-1-1, 2-1-1). there are a few things going on in there though: 1) it's going by pretty damn quick. it's a surprisingly fast song, given it's relaxed nature. I played a vibraphone arrangement made by my teacher and it took me a minute to realize that the subdivision is going by pretty fast. I ended up slowing it for my initial performance because there are some things in there (and especially in the solo arrangement I was playing) that get a bit blurry and kind of hard to pick out if you don't already know the song by heart. 2) the intro is just Eb in alternating octaves, but because it's alternating every note - and there are 9 notes in a bar - you actually get a pattern that repeats every 2 bars, in 26 if you will. This elongated pattern kind of distances itself from the relatively clear melodies. 3) holding the pedal really makes some of the notes almost legato in the sense that the attack of the note is relatively ambiguous. If you know what to count, it's real easy - but it's hard to really latch onto something without already knowing the rhythmic geometry (that's an album name for sure) so that's the intro, the rest of the melody is also very strictly following this pattern, just with less notes in-between (more of the 3-2-4-4 thing) - but things start to go kind of wild when the piano groove kicks in. I think it's around the 2:00 minute mark and the chords come in. the thing that really makes this stand out is the fact that the first chord stab is actually on the second beat, making the entire thing even more continuous and groovy, with a kind of funk kick to it - makes ya wanna move.

@@Koropokel I made a two row grid where I entered all the notes, in order to see how they line up. I started with the "x-x--" and "x-x-x--" (same as in this video). After that I learned the composite rythm of both rows together. When I could sing the rythm, I learned the sticking.. After that I added the "x-xx-" and "x-x-xx-" (like Camille and Minnerman does). I still mess it up sometimes, even though I learned it over a year ago.. But really nice party-trick! :) Good luck!

@@Koropokel Program a loop and learn it part by part.. and give it time, see it as a long time project! It's really nice once you get the hold of it! But the hard part is to learn to hear it from both the 5- and 7-perspective.. And also change the sticking so you can play it both ways.. It's fun to play it as a fill.. In 4/4 you have to remove 3 beats to make it 32. Sounds pretty insane in triplets too.. :)
