Imagine having to solo after Michael Brecker, what a daunting place to find yourself in! I remember watching this video at first and really liking Michael Brecker his solo, but then seeing what Seamus Blake played next was even to that a refereshing different approach. As far as I know, Michael Brecker is usually pretty stoic when it comes to reacting to other solos on stage, but he surely was really digging this. Way to go Seamus! Make sure you check out Seamus his albums, there is incredible music by his hand, both in terms of saxophone and compositionwise. Back in my Conservatory days I've listenend a lot to his "Stranger Things Have Happened" album and I've always found his soprano sound concept super nice. Let me know what you think, /Jorre

Seamus grew up in my city, Vancouver BC. I know his band teacher, and at 16 he was playing in the top big band ensemble in the jazz program at the university here. Yeah, at that age he was THAT good. It was insane.

I was in that band. Played lead alto and sat beside Seamus. It was more than obvious to everyone he was destined for greatness.

Great solo! No one's gonna out-technique Brecker, so this melodic style is the only option.

His playing with the rhythm section is so freaking amazing. They jive perfectly together, constantly call and answer - gosh, I could listen to this all day

The beginning of Seamus Blake's solo was very Ben Webster, which is a great contrast to Michael Brecker.

Lucky bastard while I can't play breckers's solos that guy is getting brecker himself to vibe to he's solo
