Hey everyone! Thanks for watching the video! Seeing a lot of people commenting before watching the video (which is fine), but the final third of the video goes into whether he even is a movie star and the state of the industry. It's definitely a topic worth discussing. Also any actors / directors you want videos on? We got a lighthearted video on an actor and another film production / list video in the works.

Yup! We go into the idea that’s it’s a next gen of movie stars but don’t compare to the pull the originals had. But it’s not their fault but just how the industry is evolving. Hopefully we’ll get back to more original filmmaking in the future but at the moment its super risky not making films on existing IPs

@@FilmStack I mean I don’t say this to sound rude but I feel like you’re kind of using the original films issue to just not acknowledge how selective with the actors you mention is. Daniel Kaluuya has been the face of many original films that have been financially successful and award winning, always in the posters and has an acting Oscar to which Timothee, Ana, and Florence do not have still. I’d even bring up Dev Patel who just started in his directorial debut to a successful box office run on his own. There are movie stars, you’re kind of just being picky with who you want them to be tbh.

Movies at the theater are so much an expense, it's cheaper to watch at home. Huge television with high Def and surround sound make it easy to wait for the comfort. He is an amazing actor. I have an eye for it. I knew Tom Hardy before he was a household name. I knew of Walton Goggin's talents before he was the Ghoul. I dunno, it seems like people are always claiming that one thing or another is ruining the movie industry. Some things I've been told ruined Hollywood are Intellectual properties, Marvel, sequels, special effects, politics, block busters. I think I even heard once that Talkies ruined movies. All of these things have killed the industry in the past btw. For example, Intellectual properties is not a new concept for Hollywood. Monty Python, James Bond, Carry On, The Three Stooges, Universal Classic Monsters, Police Academy, National Lampoons, Pink Panther, and many more are all IPs that were hugely popular for a time but are not being made anymore. Excluding Bond of course, but it too has nearly died several times in the past. In my experience it's best to just sit back and go with the flow. The movie industry is an ever changing beast and something different will be killing movies in another decade. Probably narrow AI or something.

Denis Villeneuve said he believed timmy was perfect for the role when he was already writing the script but he also said he believed certain faces would pull in a demographic that wasn't familiar with dune towards the franchise. I know younger people who didn't know anything about dune but simply watched it because timothee was acting in it. the same demographic also went in because of zendaya. After his performance in call me by your name, people went through his catalogue and watched the movie miss stevens and the reviews on imdb just talking about his performance alone in that small indie movie is insane. same with hot summer nights, which flopped and yet reviews said 'it was worth watching because of his performance'. hell his character in 'don't look up' a movie leo and j.law were in, where he improvised practically all his lines is one of the best characters in that film, which apparently also flopped somewhat. so sure, that's not carrying an IP but giving memorable performances in movies small or big that have people singing his praises even when he's not the main character is quite a pull for someone at the stage he's at in his career. Also, IP's flop very easily these days even when they have a good director. considering how much people say they want to see original content these days. People getting mad when they call him a 'star' makes no sense to me. nobody Is saying he's better than seasoned actors. people like leo have over 30 movies under their belt but at 28 leo had majorly Indie movies under his belt aside from 'titanic' and 'catch me if you can'. there were people back then who doubted he could act and said he was only popular because he was pretty . and johnny depp was well into his 30's when he started being recognised for roles AT ALL. aside from 'edward scissorhands' 'baby boy' and 'whats eating gilbert grape'. he was nearing 40 yrs when he got the role of jack sparrow, was well into his 40's when he did 'charlie and the chocolate factory' and he was even late 40's in 'alice in wonderland'. Chalamet is literally 28 right now. he still has a ways to go but has quite an impressive movie catalogue, gives memorable performances even in movies he isn't leading, and has accolades to his name that is quite an achievement for someone his age. he has clearly earned his 'stardom' based on talent and considering what he's done at this age, it's not far fetched to call him a 'star' even if evidently he has a ways to go. Obviously he's not the only one, saiorse ronan, Florence pugh, anya taylor joy, paul mescal etc are just as impressive if not more. I think a lot of good movies with the box office flops this year have nothing to do with the actors but the literal economy rn as well as the rise of streaming services. the world is changing after all.

I might not be a representative of the general population, but I literally watch movies with TC only because of him. I personally find Dune sequels dull and uninteresting. His best movies, as he said himself, were Ms Stevens - a prelude, CBYN - part 1, and Beautiful Boy - part 2. Hoping 'the complete unknown' will become part 3. I am not even talking about his intelligence, humbleness and sense of style, which set him far apart from the other young actors mentioned here. He is one of a kind, and if the mob is generally excited by blockbusters and other commercial IP crap these days, this has nothing to do with TC talents, just a way of keeping up with career. Nothing to compare with Di Caprio either. Completely different style of work and set of talents. He can shine in Broadway shaws or in Chanel commercials. He is bloody good.

He’s ruined every great movie he’s ever played a major role in and is no way anywhere near DiCaprio who played a perfect young king Louis the 14th and fur trapper being mauled half to death by a bear. He’s no where near DiCaprio. Sorry.

@FilmStack5 ай бұрын
Haha it wasn’t meant to be so bleak! It’s more of a discussion and we end off on a positive note. But yeah i agree there will be new movie stars, but they aren’t like the ones we’ve been used to. Atm at least, their names don’t have a major impact on a film’s success

His performance in call me by your name is nothing short of stellar. The way he completely captured what it’s like to be in love from his mannerisms and his little gestures really add to his acting capabilities
@FilmStack5 ай бұрын
Yeah that performance along with Beautiful Boy show he can act very well! Most people only watched him in Dune which he was good in, but there are so many other great things going for the films that you don’t really focus on the performances

False. He was middle class. His mother is a Broadway dancer turned realtor, and his father is a journalist turned UN worker. He had no useful connections in Hollywood. It was a decade of bit parts and indie films which led to his success.

People keep trying to push this idea that movie stars are disappearing somehow. Here is a list of modern movie stars who are not known for their characters or stuck in a disney box: We have Ryan Gosling, Margot Robbie, Mia Goth, Barry Keoghan, LaKeith Stanfield, Bill Skarsgard, Aaron Taylor Johnson just to name some

literally none of those people quantify as 'movie stars'. movie stars are people with international appeal to all demographics who can make non-ip projects (blockbusters, independent and studio backed films alike) a success with critics, audiences and most of all, in box office numbers. i love all those people you mentioned, but none of them qualify as movie stars. no one really does anymore except maybe cruise and, despite the fact that i don't particularly like him, the rock.
@SlickA10Homepage5 ай бұрын
@@ikateeo so ryan gosling isn’t a movie star, right margot robbie isn’t either neither is bill skarsgard All such versatile actors who we’ve seen strut their stuff time and time again. To me these people are movie stars.

@@janpol466 Neither does he! Understand that it is YOUR OWN problem that you haven't kept up with good movies recently. (He's been in 5 or 6 Best Picture nominees. Why haven't you seen them? YOUR problem!) It's also your problem if you don't keep up with modern culture, because he is a significant part of it. If you want to improve your knowledge, I suggest watching Dune Parts 1 and 2, Call Me By Your Name, Little Women, Lady Bird, Don't Look Up (which were all Best Picture nominees), or if you prefer, the children's fantasy musical Wonka, which was a massive global blockbuster hit.
