If you ever make another element in the future, i have an idea for a theme. Blinking. if you don't know, blinking is when you remove a card from play, and then returning it to the field. this can be advantageous either just by triggering Enter the battlefield effects again, or even temporarily removing an attacking creature there can even be cards that gain an advantage from cards being blinked. this way, it's really strong on its own, but can also benefit the other elements.

A thematic way to potentially balance crystals would be limiting how many times a card can trigger it's shatter ability until it shatters itself. Basically, lets say Lazoid Tower can get it's shatter ability 5 times, and after the 5th time it gets destroyed (or damaged). This would allow you to add a bunch of very powerful cards that could easily lead to you losing if you misuse them. Not to mention, your opponent can also play around them, activating shatters at inopportune times. Also, I saw someone else mention a better name for the "shatter" mechanic being "resonance". You can keep "shatter" as a trigger phrase that activates "resonance" though.

For example the shard is kinda like the spike weed plant from PvZ. You could have it die once used once, or only allow it to be in positions on the boarder between land zones! Since there are many foder units in the game, you could now tie two elements together with a swarm and sacrifice playstyle. Swarm lizards and 1/1 shards could be consumed by a unique lizard/crystal to trigger its effect. Example: Lizards could burrow and stack up units + Crystals spawn 1/1 shards Then you could have a unique general that is both a Lizard/Crystal with 2 abilities| One ability is triggered by the shattered effect The other ability allows you to consume swarm cards to trigger effect

I don't know if you are still accepting element ideas, and i do not want to type one in every episode you have, but i keep having ideas, so i will say at least this one up. What about a vapor, ice and water theme? It is all about water, vapor and ice cards, using spells to change the temperature of the area and change the unit in some way. Since sustain seems to be important when creating a card theme, this could be a spell focused deck, where these spells, if causing the right change in the right unit or building, create new units, maybe even disposable cards. It could have things like a lake house that can become a cloud house, a ice horse that becomes a cloud shark, or a water bodyguard that can get extra damage when frozen, or extra movement when heatened up. There could be this rare, super strong spell called the triple point, that aplies all the temperature effects possible, and may be related to the way sustain works in this deck, or may be the disposable card i talked earlier Just to be clear, my main inspiration was with that Carroll character that appeared in the tower episode. Also, a theme around the cycle of water, and the changes of water, or just a water themed deck could be very cool

Ice is one of the main elements of the world, along with slime, fire, and candy, so I think it works. However, you mentioned 'sub-decks' so maybe have an Elementals deck that has all four elements, but you can choose to focus on each, or combine their strengths somehow? Like, maybe there's a sort of element cycle where, for example, a Slime elemental monster gets a boost to its stats (for battle only) if there's a Candy elemental monster in its lane (slime dissolves candy) but a Fire monster will burn away the slime, Ice can stifle fire's heat, and Candy can withstand and break ice. If you have all four in one lane, they're effectively immortal in battle, but can still be destroyed by effects. The elements support one another, but it's difficult to set it up. Sort of a budget Exodia. Or, you focus one. Candy has creatures who split into smaller creatures, so a Candy structure (a candy hospital) may allow you to re-assemble your smaller ones into a big one again, 'reviving' them if they spend a turn or two inside. Meanwhile, ice creatures have that cycle of existence you mentioned, Slime creatures gain power and steal tags from consuming other creatures (but must consume to survive in non-Slimed lands), and Fire burns tags away from enemies and has lands that harm non-elementals, making them the defensive option.

Idea. Orphan element. You generate a bunch of orphan tokens, then sacrifice them to summon boss monsters.
@imatiu2 ай бұрын
I mentioned in another video that the condition for shatter to activate could be the way the units die, being hurt but surviving could make the units "Crack" units dying by receiving just enough damage could make them "Break" and dying from overwhelming damage, like 2 points of damage to a unit with a health of 1, or due to an effect of a card that "destroys" it, could be "Shatter" This could mitigate some of the issues with making the archetype work, since then you could make units with a lot of health not have any "Crack" effect but have a very strong "Shatter" effect, you could also add structures that change the requirements around in order to have some potentially broken combos, or make units that want to be keept alive since their "Crack" effects are good even if they have low health. This may be a bit too complicated for a single element though, so I can see it not being what you want out of how Cristals work.
@Nshadowtail2 ай бұрын
Maybe it could be worth going the "Shatter X" route? Let X be the maximum number of Shatter effects that can be triggered when the creature Shatters-- could do a lot to keep things from getting out of hand.
@BramLastname2 ай бұрын
If you want to prevent an infinite amount of creatures, Just make it so creatures summoned by Shatter effects don't have the Shatter keyword themselves. This creates a finite amount of times Shatter can be triggered giving the deck a lose condition outside of losing all structures.

Another idea I had for a Fourth element is an element based around the mechanic of an extra zone that the more it is full with cards(witch will be possible thanks to other cards)the more it will activate effects an example of that will be a card that if you have 10cards in that extra zone can put both itself and a enemy creature to that extra zone thus nullifying that combat interaction or a card that buff's itself by having 4 or more cards

One very specific small idea I had was a creature with both Husk and Shatter, since I find having like one or two cards in one element with a different element's signature ability to be a very interesting idea. This might be horribly unbalanced but you live and learn.
@BramLastname2 ай бұрын
As is now, creating a creature with both Shatter and Husk requires a meaningful downside, As Husk gives you additional cards which gives you additional Shatter triggers on later turns, Which creates the infinite summon problem this video talked about. It can be done, but it's deceptively powerful to mix abilities without the intended downsides in your strategy.

Little worried that the crystal deck will be more of a Mono Deck since its whole gimmick only works with itself, activating only when other crystals die. The best remedy I see to that is having cards that increase and/or give Shattering to other creatures so using other decks doesn't seem like a wasted opportunity. Also, the problem of having a chain reaction of Shattering effects going off can probably be solved by adding a Resonance restriction to the Shattering effect. This could make it so that it activates only a certain number of shattering effects upon death or only activates shattering effects in the same lane, 1 lane, or adjacent lanes. Follow up to that could also be giving shattering to your opponents creatures as well, maybe it also gives them a bit extra health for balancing, or maybe make it even worse by making units immobile for a turn or 2, either or. Well, regardless, keep up the great work! These kind of decks have always been my favorite, so I'm really looking forward to the end result!

@blipboigilgamesh78652 ай бұрын
this might sound stupid BUT, it would be very cool if rather than the shatter effect of when a crystal creature dies affect ALL of the other units, it instead worked in a delayed, shockwave pattern, so that, say, adjacent lanes would get affected first, then the next lane over. This could be coupled over with some rule dictating a maximum number of shatter skills present in a single lane. This all could create scenarios where smart players can layer multiple different layers of effects that will hit with a delay. Of course, this is just a random thought, but I really like it nonetheless. I'm thinking of stuff like one of the shatter skills damaging every creature in a lane, including other crystal creatures which would shatter themselves and cause another "shockwave", that kinda stuff. It would require lots of knowledge to properly play that though. Probably the thing I'd like the most about "delayed shatter" as I'll call it is that it would play very differently in, say, larger maps with more than 4 lanes, and that it would take into account a player making set ups that last more than two turns to reach a full end goal. Basically a good crystal player could dominate the rhythm of a match while still not being unbeatable.
@BramLastname2 ай бұрын
While cool it's very impractical outside of a digital environment, It's a lot of additional bookkeeping for no additional reward or balance. Also the doors element does a lot with adjacency, So I don't think tying the main mechanic of Crystals to adjacency is the right call.

I didn't really like the element having the shatter keyword and still requiring another creature to have a 'responding ability' to it? It makes them dependant in a sort of bad way. Sure you need to build your deck accordingly but it still limits its coworking options with other cards. Now here is my idea on how it could be done instead: 1 - Whenever a shatter creature dies, it applies the attributed effect to their shatter still to the said creatures. Ex: Melanchard died, damaging all creatures on the board. Ex: Shard O' Shardoom died, bringing doom to their current landscape. 2 - Whenever a creature(enemy/ally/both) dies the creature with the shatter keyword triggers its effect. Ex: An enemy died, so Growachard grew a Chard. Ex: An ally died, so Shardening Chard gained 1hp. Ex: A creature died, so Mother Chard suffered 1dmg. Also, damn your membership.

one of the elements should be super porp like in that one Susan episode, Deep Purple! the flavor of the element is using a universal but simple spell ("porp syrup") to activate effects on creatures with the text: addicted. you would get porp syrup by structures adding it to your hand. the syrup could have a simple effect like: activate all addicted cards. They could get a stat boost, add cards to your hand, summon smaller creatures, or do some crazy effect. a way the element becomes tied to the land could be some sort of give and take mentality with the structures and creatures. ie: structures need creatures to be on same land/adjacent to really pump out more porp syrup. there could also be some sort of win condition card with Pure Porp Syrup. Its inspired by the part of the episode (Deep Purple) when the porp workers merge into one mass. Playing the Pure Porp Syrup spell could cause all your addicted cards to combine stats into one large super porp creature that grows in stats every use of the regular porp syrup spell. There would be nuance in this gameplay loop of developing a porp factory with all these addicted slaves (like in the episode). Imagine a call and response between playing the syrups and your board echoing in all these different addict effects. Of course it would be a slower burn, endgame sort of element but that would play into its flavor.

For Crystals, maybe be a bit more specific in the wording to make it more balanced. Like, if you are planning to allow general death rattles, have them have a different activation time. Let's say like this: Death rattle: on death Shatter: after death So if you for some reason introduce a silly deathrattle card like "Glassed voidhole lizard" which on death creates a black hole, killing all creatures in play, it triggers before shatter, therfore removing the option to trigger shatter effects of creatures, leaving only structures. (I know how imbalanced the lizard creature is, this is just for sake of example) Also, if you wish for multiple creatures to trigger effects on shatter, without it being overpowered, I'd recommend to make Shatter specifically a targeted trigger, while giving units you want to always trigger a different tag, like Resonance or crystalize or smth. That way, you can balance the always-triggering effect cards more easily

Not a member. But situationally, it makes me wonder if un-copyability was applied to any characters. Also, I wouldn't be able to help anyway even if I was a member because balance isn't a skill I've refined well enough (yet?). For example, I suppose Far Away Star would be broken as a card in this game as it would take turns being a Crystal and a [mute] type, and the player would get to choose between coating it in un-copy armor or just silence certain effects. But Far Away Star would also have an 'Only One' effect where it can't duplicate itself and where the 'Only One' effect isn't counted as an effect; think of that like having a worldline where the character doesn't just 'show up' unless only one of it does. No, I wouldn't call it Far Away Star in this case; OC, do not steal. But yeah, if you want the idea, you can use it, just name it different. It translates weird because I only watched this video and I'm barely more used to YuGiOh or Solitare.

What if you made it so that shatter only affects things in the same zone the creature died in. That way, poisoning is what can stop their effects from triggering, and they might play sort of like explosive charges. Let me explain; in the first part of the game, you try to place your crystals in strategic positions as your opponent tries to stop you; then, if you get all set up, you can wombo combo with activating cascading shatter effects to win the game in a cool premeditated combo, like planting bombs and then blowing them all up at once.
