Remember folks, when you buy MWR, download the game, make sure to get all the files and that MW2 remaster works, then immediately close the game and refund that shit. Do not give Asstivision any money

I really feel like the guys behind a lot of these fan projects should network and go into actual game development on a new game. It's clear that they know exactly why everyone loved these old games, they EASILY have the talent to make some sort of CoD clone that feels just like the "golden age". Can't wait for the proper matchmaking to be implemented where there will be actual progression just like it was planned for the original H2M. But it's good that there's a streamlined way to install and play now! The bugs were inevitable with a 1.0.0 release, they'll definitely fix those up. And an important note for anyone that's worried, the launcher is open source and the community will always ensure that it's safe.

@@mikeytreees All a cease and desist letter is is the publisher threatening to sue you if you don't stop. They don't have to send a C&D, they could just go straight to taking you to court if they wanted. So it's not like passing the project to new devs is a loophole to keep the people involved from getting sued. It isn't like Activision is back to square one every time the project gets passed off and they have to keep sending letters forever. If the devs attempted that, at some point Activision would just start sending a court summons rather than a C&D.

@@mikeytreees In this case, the original devs received a C&D and, as far as anyone can tell, they vanished - stopped working on it entirely. Just as they were legally compelled to. But they already distributed an earlier version of their files before the C&D happened, and people unrelated to the devs (who were not the target of the C&D) started uploading their files. Now we're in a situation where people who have never heard of H2M can grab H2M files from multiple sources, and fix the files up as they please. The easiest thing actiblizz can do is play whack-a-mole with every single individual person who ever decides to work on H2M/Horizon/future projects until there are no H2M fans with programming experience left.

From what I've heard on the good old Internet, and who knows if it could be true, but apparently a pirated torrent of MWR will work just fine as all you need are the game files. People have been claiming that buying the game, immediately refunding and just keeping the files also works.

I wish they would have used asset overriding for the mod. The MW2 maps all use that garbage xbox 360 720p resolution since they are ripped directly from MW2 and they all look like trash compared to today's standards. All those high res remastered assets exist in MWR and MW2 campaign remastered. All they'd have to do is rip the common ones and load those into a few packs and then use asset override actively in those maps. Effectively they could remaster them without having to touch those maps in the level editor. Idk if they know how to do that stuff tho

Load it with each map and it would automatically swap the assets each time. I know because I've modded CoD on PC for years and it's not hard to do once you understand the engine

Yes, RCE is not possible here. It runs on dedicated servers owned by real hosting providers. Like the official Activision BO1 on PC back then. Bo1 never had peer to peer matchmaking on PC. Or like MWIII 2023. RCE is not possible. You need to have the host migration thingy for execute code on other PCs.

What I would love to see from Activision, and I know this probably won't EVER happen, but I would love to see the CoD equivalent of the Master Chief Collection. Give us CoD4, WaW, MW2, BO1, BO2, and MW3 all wrapped in a nice package with very similar gameplay features from MCC. For example, I would love to hop on, filter my gamemodes to Domination, TDM, etc and even filter which games you want to play those modes from (for example I only want Dom and TDM from BO1 and MW2 or select them all) and then boom, matchmake into a Dom/TDM match from any of those CoDs. Combine this with an insane amount of calling cards, emblems, weapon skins etc to unlock and we could have a masterpiece on our hands that would sell like HOTCAKES! BUT I know this wouldn't ever happen, and if it did, they would ruin it with battlepass/store/mtx garbage.

Even if they were to add mtx garbage, they could easily add a toggle that would disable any skins that were not in the original games. This way if someone really wants to run around as a clown, from my pov they'll still look like a default soldier. Everyone can literally have their cake and eat it too.

Honestly, given how Activision operates, I’m not really interested in an official version of MW2 Remastered. The current version we have is likely the best we’ll get, and it’s only going to get better since it’s open source. If Activision were to release their own version, we all know they’d probably create something worse and find a way to shut down the open-source version. Then, we’d be left with that inferior official version, and we’d just have to accept it.
