My understanding of the Devil came from an almost decade long drug addiction. I was self-obsessed and entitled and manipulative and so very empty and lost, consumed by the addiction. That was the devil and the personification of Hell to me. I found sobriety a few years ago, turned back to God and have been full of gratitude and humility and peace. I suppose we all face down the Devil in our lives in some form. This talk echoed some of my thoughts and understanding. The asmr is quite relaxing too :) Thank you so much for these talks, John. For years now, I've been falling free fall... Depression sorrow pain. One night, in agonizing pain, i cried and looked out of the window and said I don't want to be here anymore. Take me away. I don't want this anymore. I want to go back home. Don't reject me. I want back home. Almost like a kid crying out for their parents. And I felt this presence almost hugging me and leading me to bed. Very comforting. Back then i though i was being kind to myself. But I felt it was something more than that . I felt hugged and comforted. Ever since I've been blessed with the biggest blessing in my life : death. Death after death after death, and I'm still dying shedding off who I'm not. And this all was a blessing. But i do notice moments of choice. Either you stay awake or you fall back down. Spirit is good to us. We turned away and it just stays around ready for our return. Guiding us back. With so much endless and unconditional love. I'm so blessed. Thank you.

So, perhaps John is saying, the Devil is simply a personification of the ‘ego’. The more we allow ourselves to be consumed by ego, the more the ‘Devil’ is manifested/symbolised. This makes perfect sense to me. I had a nightmare once where I was falling into space and that fear of just falling falling falling. After realizing the presence of G-d is all around me at all times, and also inside of me, I now feel this ‘net’ of G-d surrounding me always. This loving embrace has erased this fear of falling into the abyss. I realize the abyss of fear is that ‘devil’ the ego pulling further and further away from G-d. The abyss I fall into now is that of peace, love, and tenderness, a place where fear simply does not exist. For the loving arms of G-d, when we put your attention to & remember this connection, drowns all fear into nonexistence. I just want to say as well your formula for remaining present: feet on the ground, listen, & look, I’ve taught to my 6 year old son and is a great tool for when he’s getting caught up in emotions ( as we all do at times ) to be the rope of G-d to pull him back. Thank you for sharing this wisdom. Very grateful 🙏🏻

I once heard a Rabbi saying: There are two sorts of evil: One vanishes when the light comes, this type of evil is more or less just the absence of light. But the second one has a real existence of its own. I have never found a better explanation that fits my own experiences with evil. Referring the question if evil is a force field: The Biblia Vulgata - the Latin Bible - that was written as early as the 4th century when Christianity still had a lot of the original knowledge and traditions of the original Christians - says: "Scimus quoniam ex Deo sumus, et mundus totus in Maligno positus est." (1. John 5:19) meaning if you translate it literally: "As we are from God we know that the whole world is put into evil" Well - that sounds very much like a force field to me.

Darkness is like a drug. It gives highs of self-importance and power, and the rush makes people forget about their pain, but it's a temporary fix at best and horribly addictive. I say that as somebody diagnosed with Antisocial Personality Disorder, which is the polite term for Sociopathy. I'm too acquainted with the seductive allure of that darkness, but that's how I know it isn't worth it.

APD and all those terms are just fancy names, use too put different and problematic people on a box, a way to isolate them more either. We have to the opposite, we have to understand why this people isolated themselves, what society have done to them, what makes them go further into a path that have no peace, no joy, no life, that only exists to know that that way is not the way. That Isolation happens because, most of the times, is a way to go deeper, to learn from your suffer, because be normal in this mad society in not good either. i read a Jesus Christ quote yesterday something like this....'BRINGING FORTH WHAT IS WITHIN WILL SAVE YOU...NOT BRINGING FORTH WHAT IS WITHIN WILL DESTROY YOU'...John , you are sounding too serious and negative today for me...so called 'stillness' and 'meditation' can be a running from instead of walking towards...a priest friend told me many times 'GOD, LET ME FOLLOW YOU MORE NEARLY , SEE YOU MORE CLEARLY AND LOVE YOU MORE DEARLY'...Thomas Moore (Care of the Soul etc) talks about the monks and such types who 'sit high on the mountain in rarefied meditation not in touch with 'reality' laying their epithets on the ones below...John, you sound that way and 'are that way' at times...i beg your forgiveness and imagine getting it for talking this way but i just 'have to i guess today'...you talk about we wake up from a nightmare we have and we wake up and see it was 'just a nightmare' and then what have you after we wake up from the nightmare...John, John, John...when i 'sleep at night' I AM AWAKE...when i AWAKE from my mortal nightly dream i AM NOT AWAKE....now, John, this is 'my trip' or the one given me...i , too , can't say 'i' did this or i do that...all i can say is 'i found myself doing this' or i 'find myself doing that'...i don't believe in 'choice' and neither did B F Skinner...i do align with 'i find myself making decision's' and that's different...i could tell you stories that would curl your toes about angels and the 'devil'....evil = live....devil = lived ... i was , you could say , raised by the Ursaline Nuns, Oblates of St Francis and a Jesuit here and there...i've been writing, EVERYDAY, from 1 to 5000 words , since 1977 and it all started in 'dream groups' in which i started recording hundreds of dreams and visions where Guardian Angels came and so much stuff i could share ... point ... God is real and so are Angels...you are , even and Angel...when i was 9 years old i was drinking water from a fountain at school and Sister Mary Gabriel said , 'John'...'yes sister'....'you are an Imp'....'what is an imp sister?''....'look it up'....i did...Scott Peck says there is 'evil' , real honest to goodness evil...i think there's pathology but not real 'evil' so to speak...........'the postive and negative sparks of the sould' are needed as componnents of life and they don't cause anythying...threre is no cause and effect , just consequence of the dancing with the 'devil' so called...there is light IN THE DARKNESS and Darkness in the Light...but , that duality tripping is 'ego'....i'm failing in trying to get across what i want to convey...i burned all my dream journals with thousands of nightly dreams and visions and 'stuff'....however, nightly, while i'm asleep goings on or 'realer' than when i 'wake up'......God is Quiet so to speak yet can be incredibly unquiet and killer stormy....ok, i'm failing again trying to convery....God is'ing' and i am'ing' are ego gestures...any mouthings falls short of the divine and all is Divine even 'the devil' and 'evil'...i used to play a card game called 'War' on my bed as a kid...i pretended i was playing the 'Devil' and i cheated at cards as i 'cheated the Devil'...in a way 'life is an ongoing dance of cheating the Devil'...i say this humorously but seriously....PEACE is GOD...yet God is in the core of the tumultous...God is in rejection and humiliation and darkness...there is no 'luck'....an Awesome Somethingness 'cares' and that's been a super hard one for me to 'get' especially with th mess i've made of my life and those around me...i'm pretty sure the 'closer to God' that you are the more likey of my solitude being my lover...Peace is a demanding Lover seems to me nowadays...i do wish i'd kept my first journal of dreams because , if one were to look at it , one would know i'm completely off my rocker...in fact my teacher in 1977 looked at it saying 'maybe mental health department can help you'...John, for sure you are a filled with God just ooozing out of your pores...simplicity, soft spokeness, cleanliness, orderliness, consideration, oneness on and on and on...these are Godly characteristics....MORE'ing' isn't God...desiring is a hoot and a holler taking a person towards or away from God....i think CONFUSION is a high spiritual state as is 'DEPRESSION'...depression is always followed by growth and it is alway 'lonely on the growing edge'...God always has me by the ass trying to help me but my ego (edging God out) is the DEVIL.........'.....and lead us not into temptation but deliver us from EGO, So Be It'....God help me , and thanks , eh....'grace gives harmony and wisdom to a grateful spirit renewing itself on goodwill extended'....John, thanks so much for you sharing your life...i have a brother that talks about life is this and life is that...life isn't anything....but if i 'life is' i know life is an expression, an altar and a gift for me to open...life isn't out to trick me but life is out to kill me and i may as well enjoy dying , eh...what else is there to live for?...tee hee...i'm crazy to send this stuff...but, you are so wonderful for this planet and i want you to not be 'down on yourself' in anyway....i'm just a human being playing with 'being' farting around with i am 'spiritual'...i am what i am...ho hum dee dum...thanks

I don't know how often the question was askes, but how do you find your place in the World, when your still a young adult? The place where you belong and can start a life without any depressing thoughts about the Future? I can't figure out a way for me. I mean, sure, I've startet the jorney of adulthood three years ago, but i still don't know where i belong. What I should do to make me happy or everyone else in my life. Or what I should do.
