I'll add some notes that has been misunderstood in this video: - The Hive had 61k players on their Bedrock server - As well as CubeCraft having 52k - Minetrack Bedrock has an inaccurate information with the playercount record since it's playercount records has been reset.

I think you should have mentioned that cubecraft didnt just update to 1.9. They actually split their server into a 1.8 and 1.9 section. Meaning players who joined with 1.8 could play 1.8 with others while players joining newer versions would play 1.9. I think this is a really interesting approach that not any other server really tried. The 1.8 version was shut down a few years ago though due to lack of popularity.

I still play annihilation on shotbow frequently. I am friends with some past devs for the mode and know a few admins as well (myself and my clan in the game would spend our days hunting for bugs then showing them to staff, so we interacted with them a lot). The server has an interesting history, in addition to having a smaller player base now, and a generally younger demographic, the server merged their Americas, Europe, and Asia servers all onto the America one a few years ago. The result of this is that the language the players talk in chat changes depending on time of day.

Ex-moderator of McPvP/McBrawl here, so thankful you talked about us! Yes this specific server formally ended, but game modes pioneered by it most surely haven't! Here's a rundown of the current state of some of them if anyone is interested: HG: Germany and Brazil kept it going, Germany lasted up to around 2020 with PvP Dojo, Brazil still has it going strong and sees thousands of unique players. CTF: had players playing daily up until the very end of McBrawl, at that point one one the developers took upon themselves to re-code it again and later open-source it. (We actually had the first test today! 2023-08-20, lots of bugs, but that's normal given it's being made from the ground up). Sabotage: never died, Brazilian community kept it going till today, the Acorn server (English speaking) is also re-doing the gamemode and should be playable in some time. KitPvP: BadBoyHalo acquired it for his server (MunchyMC), and it's still going. Headshot: some smaller servers picked it up, but there's not much demand anymore. McWar: MisterEpic actually talked about this one more as of recent, given Mojangs stance on guns, also came from our network and the current developer came from McBrawl if I'm not mistaken.

I played Hive Java all the way back in 2013 and played it up until it closed. Super fond memories. I remember back when Survival Games, The Herobrine, and TIMV were the only three gamemodes. I loved the Herobrine game to death and played it religiously in the server's first couple years. When the server announced that the gamemode would be removed after the rewrite update (Java 2), I remember many of the veteran players coming back one last time and we sat in the old maps talking about how much we had fun with the game. I also remember telling them about how I loved seeing all the regular players back in the day and I was too shy to ever say anything. In any case, the game was removed and we never played it again. Also shoutout to the other five players aside from me who dedicated time to grind the literal least popular gamemode, Restaurant Rush. I started playing it ironically until I ended up liking it a ton and ended up getting to the Top 10. You all were so sweet ^^

McPVP was my go-to server back in the day. I would come home from school and play on the CTF and Hardcore Games for hours on end. It was integral to my daily routine and helped me mentally decompress. I quit playing Minecraft around 2014, but whenever I came back a few years later I expected to see it still standing, because it was so immensely popular. I was disappointed to find it dead and gone by that point. However, I still have my memories of it. I can also say that many maps from the CTF are absolutely ingrained in my mind nearly a decade later lol.

I've been an active player in the shotbow community since 2013 and I can tell all the things you said in this video are accurate, and I appreciate the fact that you mention that the server still has a dedicated playerbase. Shotbow also has a big part of the staff team really hoping to make the gamemodes attractive again for a new player base in the future in order to advertise the server and bring a lot of new players. We don't know if it will actually work one day tho, but atleast this server has dedicated players hoping for a bright future !

If they could figure out a way to update the code of Wasted for the modern Minecraft versions, I feel like shotbow would explode again. In my personal opinion that game mode blew every other one of theirs out of the water tenfold. Custom textures, mechanics, everything soup to nuts was changed about the general game to make it basically what was a primitive version of Fortnite.

Oh my god you've just unlocked some of the best memories of my life. I had a tough time growing up struggling with poor mental health and disabilities which still effect me to this day. I remember one of the few times I fit in and got to interact with others and not feel like an outcast was playing Minecraft at the town library after school. When school was out we'd all run down and pile in, trying to be the first to reserve time on a computer to play Minecraft. I recall the best times being when we'd all play on Overcast Network, we'd all pile in and take part in these MASSIVE large scale mega battles. It didn't matter that I was the weird kid that nobody liked, we were a coordinated squad in an army that got hyper focused and worked together. It was a nice escape to fit in and be happy for a few hours a day. It's a very bittersweet memory, a little nugget of joy in the hell I was trudging through. As difficult as my past was I'd do it all again just for one more session.

Great video, I was a little disappointed though to see that it wasn’t mentioned how Cubecraft recently removed all of their unique and interesting gamemodes making them just another generic server with gamemodes you can play anywhere else. My personal favorite was tower defense, it was one of a kind as a both co-op and versus team based tower defense. I have yet to find any game that exists, on minecraft or otherwise, which is similar. I still don’t understand why they shut down those extra gamemodes. It couldn’t have cost them that much to keep it going if the whole server was staying up regardless.

Apparently they DID shut down the modes due to costing more and threatened to shut down the server if it declined much further. And the remaining modes have smaller map pools too. Many game modes on shotbow have been lost to time such has wasted, minez 2, minez with guns, ghostcraft, mine theft auto (the best gta clone in Minecraft) and many more newer game modes have all be scrapped. I have such fond memories of that place, I even have some friends around that I met on there more than 7 years ago. I wish some other server would try to replicate that idea of a main lobby that OITC had. After finishing a competitive game you wouldn’t be thrown into different places than the rest of the players, you’d all be sent back to the same place, that made people chat, form friendships, and grow hate for each other. I think that really made the community so much stronger, it made you form connections with people that you’d actually regularly meet in the lobby, it’s a feeling I wish I’d sometime find another game having. I’m really gonna miss it when it’s completely gone, this video really hit me right in the heart lmao

Maybe its also worth mentioning that at one point cubecraft java got an update, where they fixed shields, added crossbows, netherite, swift sneak and new maps (even with the warden) in skywars. The server was very popular at that time and I even saw some smaller ytbers there. After about 2 months however, they nerfed it by removing shields entirely and nerfing the only axe kit in skywars (axes couldnt be found in chests from that point on). Everyone liked it, like why, and it was very sudden too.

Man... I have some memories from Cubecraft and the Hive, but nothing compared to the joy of the Shotbow Network. Annihilation was a special mode for me, and one of the few modes I enjoyed even when my team performed poorly. I would love to jump back into that mode again, but I worry the low player counts would make it too hard to find a game.

Overcast going away was so sad and im so happy it came back, the culture of building absurd defenses is so unique and makes it pretty new player friendly since less skilled PVP players can always work on defenses. The feeling of sneaking through after hours of a match is just unparalleled.

I remember playing on two specific KZbinr MC servers many years ago, which both have been shutdown as of a few years ago (via 2019 or so, I can't remember for sure). I cannot remember the server names for the life of me, but I remember they were owned by ChooChoosGaming and Wizard Keen if any of you remember either of them. I used to absolutely love servers where you build on a plot, and I remember that both servers had that "feature" (Keen's server was purely a plot server iirc). I remember playing on Keen's server pretty much daily, so I was sad when I eventually saw that I could no longer join the server. I remember making friends on there, so it's a shame to think that I won't see them again. But hey, that's just how things go nowadays.

As an old itsjerryandharry player, I managed to grab peaceful survival old world before the reset (which caused a drop of players around 2016 iirc. I tried to grab that world as well but the file corrupted) then the deletion of the game mode. That's what mainly killed the server was the removal of the PSMP (and factions). Many long time active donators stopped having a reason to donate/play the server all together.

I used to help run one of the most popular pvp vanilla survival servers back in alpha/beta while in highschool with a some friends. We ran for some years before running into host issues and a script kiddie. Great times in the early days. We were one of the only non-profit servers. Every dollar that we obtained went into either server host costs or paying devs to make custom plugins or spawn builds. No admin/mod got paid, we just liked playing minecraft with the boys. It was 2 Creepers 1 Craft - 2C1C for short. Yes it was a play on Two Girls One Cup.

Shotbow actually did a dirty about a month ago, in this year's /r/place. In the final hours of the event, someone started using a massive amount of bots to plaster the Shotbow logo on prominent places on the canvas... _including over Technoblade's memorial art_ (taking at least a dozen nation-community areas with it). People were *_pissed_* but managed to mostly repair Techno's art before Whiteout Mode began.

As a programmer I actually recreated the whole thing in the months after shutdown but it's just not the same. @@Ultra_Ocelot a friend of mine had the same issue. Plus, just in the last 2 months on hive I encountered so many hackers, what feels like was every second round. I reported over 60 hackers which got banned in the end (I still have the records actually). The main issue seemed to be that the reporting process was way too tedious for the average player and just wasn't really worth it. You really needed to be a very active player and report a lot of people to both get used to it and not take forever on every report and have it be actually beneficial to you.
