Some people think this is a dialogue but I think it's a statement about him leaving her. "Where did you sleep last night?" Wasn't just a song on this cold New York November night, but a direct question to his wife. Whom he knew was cheating on him at the time. That scream and that stare no less was a release.."Oh this guy representing the Leadbelly estate wanted to sell me his guitar for $500,000..." Well Kurt, I think you outdid your favorite performer. The one you played his song on sold for 6 million and your sweater for $300,000. Chills forever

Urban legends and those who follow 'em ...There is a video of Courtney and Kurt singing together that song years after this, there is also videos of that song played by Nirvana even before. It was just one of the favorites songs of Kurt played originally for his favorite performer LOL.
