True, his around the rim game is historically elite - something he worked on a lot early in his career. But, the threat of his shooting is a major piece of how he gets to those inside spots. Despite not having the quickest first step, the threat of his shooting range forces defenders to press up, giving him the ability to get by a defender that is quicker than him. And, that same "gravity" is what makes his teammates so much more effective - no one else in the league commands press man defense from 40 feet out and that is all about his range. When you put the range together with the inside game and handles plus the IQ to pass out of and leverage the double teams and add a splash of understanding how to create space off the screen with a quick trigger... you get a top 10 all time player like Steph.

Reggie Miller played the game from 1987 to 2005. A collective of stars stood in his career that prevented him to win a championship but he stayed with Indiana Pacers from start to finished. So he is a one man one team one career type of person. Loyalty in short. That is probably why he respect stars like Kobe and Duncan even though these 2 prevented some of his championship challenges. Jordan also stopped him 6 times, Olajuwon twice, Isiah Thomas twice. He also witnessed Magic's last championship during his rookie year. So to see Steph Curry performed and achieved 4 championships with the same GSW franchise for 15 years is another example of loyalty which sync with his own character, that's probably why he keep harping on Bill Russell as well. Larry Bird whom is a Celtic legend himself coached Reggie Miller in his Pacers days also influenced his 3 point shooting career. Just like Steve Kerr(another Reggie's former rival) influenced Stephen Curry. All these shooters including Ray Allen respected each other's games greatly. Reggie definitely appreciates the appearance of Steph Curry because he revolutionise the game to elevate the importance of 3 point shooting to every fans regardless of height differences. That's the impact Curry brings to the table. Anyone can win multiple champions regardless of your height as long as you put in the hard work of training and honing your skills.

Curry is such a great shooter nobody talks about how he’s a top 5 finisher at the rim. Any hand, any angle, any defender. MJ had more of an impact because the NBA was still in its infancy and he took the game to another level. Just my opinion but Curry changed the game. Actually, now I think about it LeBron has probably knocked Kareem down a notch as Kareem's claim was sustained greatness and amazing offence and I think LeBron has done it better. Wilt has to be considered the best player ever though I understand when comparing his results against others on the list and against the other big name (Russell) he did not do as well so that hurts his greatness. After those three or four you would have your next set of guys and so on. I think I would go with a 15 or even a 12 right now because I think as a whole best and great are used interchangeably when setting up these lists.

There’s 3 lists for me which are GOAT (greatest), BOAT (best), and VOAT (valuable). I got Steph rn as 9th on Goat, 6th on BOAT, and 4th on VOAT. VOAT is value as a center piece to a team. Curry’s value to the Warriors is only behind MJ the GOAT, Magic 4th in my GOAT list, and Russell 5th in my GOAT list. His superstar abilities combined with his leadership, selflessness, loyalty, and general character would make me choose him before most even if they are better than him. Even if Bron is better he could quickly leave when things get rough or if he wants to have change in scene. Even if u think Kobe is bet the r which he isn’t, Stephs character and selflessness brings other superstars and get his teammates to play better than him combined with the fact he never has off-court issues or beefs with the front office that puts stress on an organization. If MJ was not accomplished and good of basketball player as he was, I’d even have Steph over him. He is a dream player to have from an organization standpoint.

I think MJ’s impact is still bigger because MJ was so impactful away from basketball and brought the world to basketball. But Steph is today’s “I wanna be like Mike”. MJ turned basketball from a giants league to something attainable for any player. Big men from overseas came into the league with handle, 6’10” dudes trying to be guards in HS and college, small guards like AI, Rose, Wade dominating-that’s the MJ effect. And now Steph has pushed the game waaaay back behind the 3 point line. Fast breaks and people are pulling up for 35ft by DESIGN! Teams averaging 1 for 1 on 2pt and 3 pt attempts…The same way MJ’s influenced and impacted the late 80s and entire 90s, Steph has that same influence now.

Because the rules allow it today. Scoring stats are meaningless across NBA generations. Rules are simply too different. Curry would be coming off the bench averaging 12 a night and under 30% from the 3 in the 80s and 90s. His career would also have been shortened by a third due to the wear and tear.
