Great video thanks! It's great to see Lofer again. I went 3 times skiing when I was at school but never appreciated the connection to Where Eagles Dare at the time!

The best, war movie, locations, that I never seen. I will have watching this movie about ten times. And I m not tired again. The first time directly on the Cinema. In the 1969 here in Italy. After by VHS and by DVD. Wonderful soundtrack from Ron Goodwin Orchestra.

Hi, yes it’s one of my favourite films that I have seen many times. The film score as you say is brilliant too. Thanks for sharing your appreciation of this classic film 🍿

Beautiful, thankyou for doing this, whare eagles dare will always be with me, love it so much. The music, mountains, the snow, the dark cold feeling, the place bustling with German officers and troops and vehicles, Richard Burton standing at that famous centre landmark with Clint Eastwood, jock, Thomas, barclay, and christiansan. Burton saying "weel try this one behind us, when you get in, circulate around, try and find out anything you can about general carnavy." "weel meet back here in half an hour" brilliant from Burton, and you have shown me the landmark from whare he said it. Many thanks. Nice video.

Thank you for your comments. I agree with you totally about the film. It was one of the great films of my childhood. Burton is on his own as an actor, a true great never to be equaled. The storyline is gripping throughout and finally the music score is arguably one of the best composed pieces of music for moving picture.

Seems that in Europe they preserve things whereas here in the USA we have land developers that always want to tear everything down and put some awful looking buildings or shopping centers in. History means nothing to them, only money. This is beautiful. Thanks for posting.

very nice location clip.... interestingly in the movie Burton and Eastwood start their walk towards the bar in the town of Werfen which is about 50 miles away from Lofer, they go through a check point barrier near Werfen Station and as they turn the corner , a camera angle shot from high up, looking down on them , that cut is to the location at the village of Lofer and they continue their walk to the bar along those streets in Lofer, it is a very clever and seamless cut that sees them begin the scene in one location , Werfen, and then carry on in the scene at a different location, Lofer. I visited Werfen a few years ago with my brother, Werfen is where the real castle is, and the train station. I would like to visit Lofer one day, Austria is such a beautiful country.

I’m in love right now and just came back from an abandoned military base in the loferer hochtal. But apart from one Wikipedia article I can’t find any information about it. There were goats and cows inside, so I know it would be easily accessible, but considering I’m from Australia I wouldn’t want to get caught for trespassing

Rob, Thanks for taking us back. Was in (Butzbach) Germany in 1968, Courtesy of Uncle Sam and have returned 6 times to a place that I will forever cherish in my memories. Was planning a trip with my wife in 2020, after retiring to SC in 2018, to visit some of the locations of 2 of my favorite movies, Where Eagles Dare & The Great Escape. I am sure we were not the only ones that had their plans and lives rearranged due to the pandemic. Hopefully we can do our last trip next year to those picturesque locations. Your video is of stunning quality. If you don't mind me asking, what video camera were you using? Again, outstanding Job in a what is arguable one of the greatest, if not the greatest WWII movie and locations ever made. Best Wishes...

Thank you for your very kind words. I used a GoPro Hero 7 with a gimbal. I also have several videos on my channel of The Great Escape film locations too. I recommend planning a trip to see locations for both films. Best regards Rob
