Honestly feel bad for my American gun owners at times as a Canadan, we get A LOT of surplus, to the point where Chinese SKS are still $300, and you can find weird stuff like VZ.52's or Hakim rifles for $800, or truly rare rifles in the US like SVT-38 and SVT-40s for only around $1000 - $1500 here and theres a pretty large number of them here, that or we get stuff like the FS2000. I walked into my LGS one time around 2 years ago, and they had an 1890 dated Martini-Henry that looked like it went through several wars, for $1100, and a sign that said "no ammunition available" next to it, right next to a proper AR180B for the same price. In 2022 I bought my first rifle, a Byf Mauser Kar98k dated 1944. I bought it for $500 because it was converted to a sporting rifle, devaluing it. However, unlike most sporting Kar98ks I've seen, they didn't modify the bolt handle which makes me happy. It's not much, it's a simple rifle, and I know a paid a little more than I should have, but I had a feeling it was meant to be because my late paternal grandpa, whom I was close with, had a German made Gewehrfabrik Danzig Model 2 as his first rifle, it's a single shot bolt action .22lr rifle that was used for training purposes. Much like my rifle it isn't worth a lot of money, but both were made for military purposes, and both are well made.

Nothing wrong with that. I hope you have fun shooting it. Word of warning though. Surplus 8mm Mauser ammo can be very hit/miss. I was out at a range last weekend talking with a few old timers about old milsurp rifles and they mentioned that 8mm can vary wildly between manufacturers. Some the casings were split, either didn’t fire or got a hang fire and worse case it was over pressured and cracked the stock.
