Great video. You said wool for the surcoat would have been more accurate historically, however, I talked to someone on Facebook a while back when I was making my Templar surcoat and he said that both linen and wool would have been common historically. It depended on the climate I think in which the person who would be wearing it lived or was at any point in time.
@teutonicpenguin95934 жыл бұрын
Yeah I've heard debate on it. I personally like linen more and it can get pretty hot even up in the Midwest. So I go linen.

Total cost for all of this? Amazing vids
@teutonicpenguin95934 жыл бұрын
Rough cost estimate would probably be around $1400 if you bought everything. Making certain parts can lower the cost. I made some and traded for things as well. Out of pocket this kit has cost me... Right around $700 which isn't bad.

The helmet looks like it was made by "forge of svan". They are a Czech armor forge. They defenatly sell a helmet of that looks the same and is called that name. They also do custom fitting.

Were the arm plates standard for all knights, or is this a specific impression? I have not seen many others that wear those plates in primary or secondary sources.

Those are called ailettes, and they were used for a short time in the late 13th and very early 14th century. There’s debate over whether they were protective or purely for heraldry purposes, and what they were made from.

@@teutonicpenguin9593 Wait your crusading armor actually passes their regulations? I just got my full set. But i wasnt sure i would be let it because of the lesser plate armour. A bunch of the Kult of Athena stuff is not available, but if you were looking for a good 13th century gambeson I found a good one on medieval-market .com called Morgan Bible Gambeson, although the historical linen padding option is very expensive. I plan to get it stuffed with felt instead. Also that same site has arming caps too and linen undergarments. Although I would personally rather make them so that they fit me perfectly. Don't know where I will get mail chausses yet though.
