Google needs to do more than just release a watch. They need to leverage their ecosystem fully because the Apple Watch particularly is a success because of theirs. Smartwatches aren't smart on their own!

Over the years I've been back and forth between Android and Apple a few times. Currently Android and not expecting to go back but the biggest appeal for me with Apple is the quality of the Apple Watch and how well it works as a companion device. I've had a few Samsung Galaxy Watches and whilst they are good I still think Apple Watch is the watch to beat. I really want a Pixel Watch to be great.

I just don't care for the square-ness of apples watch designs, unless im out of the loop and they have a circle style watch? Have multiple samsung galaxy watches and have been happy with them 👍

@@TonyVainosky I suppose as with everything people will have different thoughts about the aesthetics. I agree that if you are looking at the devices as a watch first and foremost a rounder style is nicer. As a companion device to your phone though I suppose the square design better matches the primary device. The Samsung Galaxy Watches are by no means bad devices but I think it's one example of where Apple having control over hardware and software benefits them because the Apple Watch, to me, genuinely feels like an extension of the phone rather than another device.

@@chris56269 I definitely agree that different aesthetics will attract some and deter others. I just always preferred the more watch-like features vs the square-ness of the apple watches. But, out of curiousity, why would one care that the watch is or isn't the same "shape" as the phone/primary device? Also agree that Apple has a much better grip on their hardware than any other electronics manufacturer, hands down lol I've still always preferred the open-ness I felt the Android ecosystem had vs Apples ecosystem. But cannot say Apple doesn't create incredibly built products (especially their phones)

Garmin watches are compatible with both OS and beat the apple watch in many different aspects.

I accept that Google probably needs a top tier watch with all the bells and whistles to generate buzz. I just hope they also offer a model without all the fitness sensors and exercise junk that many of us will never use. I just want tight integration with their Pixel phone and Android apps. Let me take calls, check my messages, investments and the weather, read messages, etc without having to dig around for my phone. Leaving out the body sensors should make for a good price point. Those in their teens and twenties can splurge on the body sensors if they want them.

I think Google needs to land a nice top tier watch and a cheap more basic watch to get into the smartwatch business. So much is going on and Samsung has been doing a great job.

1. Samsung may have snatched the rights to Wear OS 3 for the first year since it "helped" Google "optimize" it. 2. There's absolutely no way Google will release Google assistant to the Samsung Galaxy Watch 4 before it'll be released on its own Pixel Watch. If rumors are right, the Google assistant on Wear OS is rumored to be getting a "major" overhaul from it's current Wear OS state.

Google just have to make the pixel watch has a long battery life like ten days, it will straight away propel to the top of smart watches.

Sorry Pixel, I'm fully in the Samsung ecosystem. It seems like pixels have a problem with every initial release. I'll stick with Google for software

I still struggle to understand why Google has has soooo much trouble in the smartphone hardware space. I'd rather they concentrate their efforts on making a true ultra premium Pixel. It's not terrible, but it's not even on the same level as the best Android smartphones or iPhones.

The Pixel phones are good enough for what most people need. That's not to say they are the best choice for everyone, I think that is deliberate though, I don't think it's entirely down to them having trouble. I think part of it is that they don't want to piss off the other companies making Android phones. If Pixel phones took serious market share from Samsung then Samsung are more likely to ditch Android in favour of Tizen. Yes that might hurt Samsung themselves in the short term, but in the long term they would take a big chunk of the market share away from Android, something Google doesn't want. I've only owned one Pixel device, the Pixel 3XL and although I've had more power devices since then and my current phone is the Fold 3, I still use my Pixel every now and then. It doesn't have the best specs, especially given what is on the market today but it still feels great to use in a way I've not really found to be the case when going back to many of my previous phones.

Not interested unless it has 5 days but it needs to be consistent. Not if you have to turn everything off. My Huawei GT2 is capable of 10-14 days no sweet. More important than an app store on a watch!

If you want a reliable fast and non lagging or freezing to death smart watch with good features, there is no other option than an Apple watch.

The Samsung watches are pathetic. Their watches keep me from considering the S22 Ultra.
