Honestly, I much prefer Marques taking his time with this MBP review and doing some proper longer term testing (e.g., doing some editing and rendering work). If you're in the market for a new MBP, may as well give it a few weeks to properly check all extensive reviews rather than just buy something of off a first impressions video.

Battery life is about the same?? battery life on my 2021 16” has been more than double my 2019 16”. Easily get 15 hours if use.

When you have your Macbook set to German language, the menu bar is literally filled up by almost every program, like Chrome, Word, Excel etc.

Menus are never obscured by the notch, only status bar items. Menu items that didn't fit, just jumps to the other side thus even replacing status bar icons by themselves.

The criticism of the location of the charging port on the Magic Mouse seems a bit strange. I don't think it's as big a deal as people assume or make it out to be. I have one and the battery lasts well over a month. Once I see the battery hits 20% or so I just charge it overnight. The location of the port has never been an issue. There are other issues with it, but the charging port is not one of them.

It’s still weirdly terrible design for Apple. Every now and again they have a wtf moment like the mouse or charging the pencil by sticking it in the lightening port lol.. then they rectify it and it’s like oh! Yeah OF COURSE it was ridiculous before

I agree. Whether you like it or not, Apple intentionally doesn’t want you to be able to charge the mouse while using it. This goes against their design ethos of the mouse being an always wireless device, and you know some people will just leave the mouse always plugged in, which Apple does not want. Also, the battery lasts months, and you can get a days worth of charge in a few minutes. The mouse warns you ahead of time when the battery is running low, and if you need to use the mouse immediately but it’s out of charge, then that’s completely on you. People get so worked up over the design of the mouse, when it’s really not that big of a deal.

@@PJ-io8pl I sort of doubt it has anything to do with how Apple wants you to use it, just given that you can use the magic keyboard while it's charging. I think it has more to do with the fact that they wanted it to look thin and sleek and they couldn't do that without putting the charging port on the bottom.

@@crumblebee6728 The Apple pencil 2 improved over the first one by allowing you to wirelessly charge it on the side of the iPad. That's not a feature you can just snap your fingers and magically wish into existence. It's an engineering problem that has to be solved. The way Apple Pencil 1 charges definitely is not ideal, but I doubt it's this way because Apple somehow didn't realize that it was awkward the first time around. The people actually responsible for designing these products are trained engineers. They're not idiots. They have to work around the constraints of time, the technology that's available to them, and likely visions that executives have for the products as well.

@@Joel11111 A keyboard is always stationary. You don’t move it around as much as you do a mouse. Having a keyboard always be plugged in makes more sense, at least design-wise, than it does a mouse.

Got the 16" M1 Pro 1 TB 16 memory and I am underwhelmed by its performance. I see very little difference in speed with LIghtroom and Photoshop from my 2015 Imac i9 with 32 memory. Cant handle large PSB files well and Lightroom is still slow on importing and merging photos. Onl;y plus is the screen and speakers

Like I have a workflow where I'm editing it Figma, maybe Adobe XD, then switching over to Visual code, Jira, and probably have 500 doc tabs open, along with a few background programs running in terminal and probably several emulators. My dream work flow would be to edit in Figma on a iPad, then switch over to my Macbook Pro, work in Visual studio code in one screen and have the emulators on my external. That would be sick if it would all seamlessly work together but I wonder how does the Adobe XD app work on the iPad. I'm wondering with the iPad, how well does it work for designers for Adobe XD? FIgma? I want to buy an iPad too but I wonder how would I be able to effectively leverage it in my workflow.

I have zero reason to pick up one of the M1 Pro or Max models because the M1 is virtually instant for most of my use cases (UX aka Figma, light coding, photography, and vector graphic work). Still, it is so cool to see how much of a leap this is in computing. I’m so happy for college kids now can get a power house machine for less than $1.5k.

Don't worry MKB, no one is catching up to Apple Silicon anytime soon. You can slow roll the review on the M1 Pro and M1 Max. The Max models are gonna be chain OOS til next summer, it's like the PS5. The base model M1 Pro chews through DOM lag like a computer from the the future. Imagine Gmail loading in a second or less. Even for just web browsing, these performance of the M1 line is insanely noticeable.

Partially wrong: menu items are not hidden by the notch and skip to the other side (and the mouse cursor will, too, when you click them, whether there are items to the right of the notch or not). Menu *extras*, on the other hand, seem to not be aware of it. The smart move by Apple would be to wait for Bartender devs to fix their mess for them and then buy the company outright.
