I think Job 28:28 goes well with Pastor John's comments on the Spirit's connection to and use of THE WORD for our putting away of all the old person and ways. It says, "The fear of the Lord, that IS wisdom, and turning away from evil IS understanding". Our new PATH IS "the law of the Spirit of life in Christ Jesus" (Romans 8:1-2), the WALKING of which sets us free from the law if sin and death.

Yes, just because the Spirit isn't mentioned in this passage doesn't mean that the Spirit is uninvolved in what the passage is talking about. The Bible, and language generally, often leaves things to be understood even though they are not explicitly mentioned.

Given that the letter was written primarily to combat Christological heresy, the lack of the Spirit in his words is understandable. He is quite evident in other passages, namely Romans 8.

I would also say that the Holy Spirit is not mentioned that often because he is there to glorify Christ (John 16:14) and Paul makes it clear at the beginning of the letter that it is about Christ and the Holy Spirit points to Christ. The Spirit is also the author/source of the letter (2 Tim 3:16).

Since the sword of the Spirit is the word and the word is entirely about Jesus Christ’s identity, finished work, and our need; it would seem the sword is a growing understanding of the gospel applied by the Spirit.
