Alex.... what is the respectful word for an elder brother or any older man acquaintance in Tamil? It's 'anna' . And in Marathi, Bangla, Odia? They do say 'dada' right? shortened to 'da' . So if you were a Bangla person or someone there were to fondly talk about you... they'd say... I'm going to meet Alex da today. . The funny bit was that the Portuguese name already had the Vasco *da* Gama in it. Veer cleverly played on the diction and pronunciation of the *da*

A huge technical and informational glitch here_ Vasco dagama didn't discover India, Vasco dagama find the place for the first time on that day from that part of the earth, of course India exists even before that, even if Vasco dagama didn't explore the country then still India will be one of a part of this planet earth. It's just a western perspective, west country's influenced agenda. Even eastern and western parts of the earth should define by where you're standing in the planet. Western part of the world says they live in west side.. stupid east side of the world followed it wrongly.

Tom Alter spoke perfect Hindi, even wrote some book/s in Hindi. He was totally in love with India. More Indian than any Indian. We are born in a certain land, culture and religion and we adopt that naturally but one who adopts an alien one is the one who has truly loved that place / culture. Tom Alter is an example of that. Vir Das gave him an excellent tribute. Now more people will look into his history. Me being from that generation know very well about him. He was that white guy who had to change his Hindi accent to sound white :)

The first time I saw Tom Alter outside the screen was in my Grad School at JMI in Delhi... and in that play, he was speaking 'perfect' Urdu. This confused me to the core... as I just couldn't wrap my head around it! 😅 A few days later I ran into him in the lobby of another auditorium, and I 'had to' stop him and ask about it. He laughed loudly and told me that he was 'born' in India and he has been in theatre for decades! That was awkward - but a good one!
