I also had a horrible experience working in a vet as a kennel worker so I related so much to this video sadly. They also made us clean the entire building and would also get so pissed and write us up for the smallest things. They discouraged me about tech school and I felt stuck there because I thought no other clinic would be different. I now work at a clinic who is teaching me so many skills and preparing me for tech school they are amazing !!!

It’s so disappointing that this is a norm in vet med. There is unicorn clinics that’s exist but it sucks that it is so difficult to find. I’m sorry you had such a horrible first experience in the field. But glad you stuck around despite that!

Your story makes me so mad! They did not deserve you. I have a similar story. I spent 3 years at a toxic hospital like this. I only stayed because they started training me as a vet tech assistant. Wasnt worth it, I now work at a different hospital but what's with this field and toxicity!?

Girl my guess would be because it’s full of females, stress, and some rude clients 😂 luckily I’m in a better place and I hope you are too!

i worked in a hospital when i was 20. i went to HR about an issue with my boss and i got fired. That is how i learned that HR is not ur friend. They were buddies too. They were getting a kick out of it they laughed..they didnt even walk me out the door as soon as i turned around they were gone. There were some good departments. The one i worked at had a unprofessional supervisor. some of the managers had anger issues. They would swear at u.

Yikes, they were definitely taking advantage of you. Glad you got out of that place! That's so sad that they forgot your birthday :( Sadly there are some seriously toxic clinics but the good thing is that there are so many other clinics that you can just leave and find a better place.

I figured that out when I started interning and started getting treated better at places that I was doing free labor at lol thanks girl!

Hi Mikalya. Thank you so much for sharing this with us. I'm was completely frustrated and disappointed hearing what you had to go through at that Vet Hospital. You did not deserve any of that treatment there. After you told us what that manager told you that you will never get accepted to The Vet Technician Program, made me so upset. The good thing is you PROVED her wrong! Look at where you are now and how far you've come. We shouldn't listen to those who are negative but instead being around those who are positive in our lives. I failed General Chemistry twice due to a horrible professor I had who had his favorites and made fun of my Math skills. BUT, I'm going to prove home wrong! Know that I can be in this field and that my Math Skills are splendid 👌 Take care!

this is what 99% of vet clinics are like. This is reality of how the industry tends to be unfortunately. and I say that from lots of experience. of you don't want to deal with toxicity, unfair rules, no official out times, low pay, horrific treatment by other staff and customers, etc. its not the field for you. I officially got out of the field in November and I couldn't be happiet about it
@everythingmikayla2 жыл бұрын
I absolutely agree with you! Just compared to other places I’ve been at, this was definitely the worst experience for me. Glad you’re happy girl!!❤️
@rosegroshek12182 жыл бұрын
I'd have to disagree. Yeah a lot of clinics can be like that but 99% would be pretty inaccurate and pessimistic. I work in a good clinic which is on the higher end of pay compared to other clinics and I would blame your school if they didn't warn you that the pay is low and the hours are long.

@@rosegroshek1218 I have worked in 6-8 different clinics or hospitals across 3 states. Every single one was like that, and all the coworkers I ever talked to had experienced the same stuff at all the places they had worked at as well. I love veterinary medicine, but the toxic culture of the clinics and hospitals makes it unbearable. And my school definitely never told me I would be working 14 hour shifts with no breaks or lunches, or that I would be told I would get off of work "whenever we decide to let you off."
@theresec6599 Жыл бұрын
@@rosegroshek1218 I've worked in multiple clinics and have experienced (or watched this happen to someone else) stuff like this to varying degrees in all of them. I wouldn't say 99%, but it's greater that 75-80%, which to me means it's a culture problem in the industry. Also every single person in the field that I've met has a horror story about one particular clinic that was worse than the rest they've worked at. This shouldn't be normal at all. Good working environments shouldn't be so rare that they are called unicorn clinics.

yUP. I worked in a vet clinic for most school breaks for a few years. Helped me decide that when I'm a vet, I'm staying as far away from clinical work as possible

This is so bad! My toxic clinic was super short staffed(I’m talking 1 tech once to help the doctor from 8am-6pm and 1 front desk) constantly, like the manager was horrible he couldn’t make work schedules to save his life, the clinic valued money over staff, we had no support from management and a gossipy/clique ish staff. My birthday got “forgotten” too but our lead’s was 2 days after mine and she got a cake and food from her favorite restaurant. I hate to say this but I’ve only been in vet med for 2.5years and toxic clinic culture seems to run rampant along with horrible management. I hope things are better now!

Girl did we work at the same place?😂 I will agree with you that in my 3 years, 99% of places have been awful but luckily I’m at a really good place now and I hope you are too!

Wow, I'm so sorry you went through all that, so terrible! I would go home and cry too :( I will never understand why some humans can be so horrible to other humans...this is why animals are better than people in my opinion lol. I'm glad that this experience did not deter you from following your dreams though and wishing you all the best😊💕

The lint story ..that s borderline abuse.belittling.I am a veterinarian..it s not that much better for us.terrible toxic industry.love the work.hate the abusive culture.As a qualified tech..the world is your oyster...you can find a nice clinic.they do exist...rare..but you can find them.

kennel technician definitely is something. my clinic is better than yours, but i was given a list of cleaning duties and one even said "sweep and clean parking lot." then when the wind happens, you get told you didnt do it properly. its very... interesting. but i am so proud of you for leaving, going to school to become a tech, and i hope you find a great clinic to work at (and that the one youre interning at is at least good to you!) i am always worried about the environment of the workplace after i get done w vet tech school.

We had to do that too, luckily with a hose though lol it can be very overwhelming but talking to my classmates it sounds like we’re all in a place we’d love to be at. Every place will have its ups and downs but with the major shortage we’re seeing, we can be picky!

Dang girl. First of all this vid has me so triggered. Your first vet med experience sounds absolutely horrible. I have worked for a lot of clinics/ hospitals. Ive been in vet. med for years.. Unfortunately, places will try to take advantage of you and your time. You need to make sure you get your job description in writing to refer to. Make sure you ask about scheduling (is it set or change every week or month). Keep track of your hrs and reasons why you go into over-time. Even for a kennel tech that is outrageous expectations. Kennel techs aren't whole hospital janitors. It is common for smaller hospitals to have their staff clean the hospital, instead of hiring janitors. Make sure you are your own advicate. You don't like something say something. It's not ok to be alone in a hospital at night for various reasons.

It honestly depends on the practice. The clinic I’m referring to did things in kind of the old fashioned way, whereas the practice I’m at now like to practice fear free techniques :)
