The real reason I came to South America was to backpack the Andes mountains. This has been a dream of mine since I started traveling and, after 7 years of gaining useful backpacking experience around the world, my dream is now coming true. Although I didn't imagine my first hike to be on a road through hills, I needed a warm up to get me back in shape and ready to hike under the high peaks. Starting on the edge of the Amazon in Oyacachi village, I decided to tackle a thru hike in a region that sees more rain than sunshine. The air was cold and wet, and the wind never stopped blowing. This is my journey, by foot, to the village of Papallacta through the Ecuadorian paramo.
