Where The Hell Is Xbox Exclusive Perfect Dark?

When Microsoft announced that it was bringing back the Perfect Dark franchise with a full-fledged AAA reboot, there was every reason to be excited, given the pedigree of the property, and given just how long it had been dormant.
As time has gone on, however, that excitement has slowly been replaced by confusion and anxiousness over the state of the project. Microsoft and The Initiative have been worryingly silent about Perfect Dark ever since it was announced, and in the nearly four years that have passed since then, we have had a number of reports talking about its troubled development cycle, the many issues it has faced behind the scenes, and how the game is still years away from release. So- just what exactly is going on with Perfect Dark?

@Flyeaglesfly215 Ff7 Rebirth, stellar blade, rise to the ronin, and helldivers are all on the ps5 right now. Meanwhile, Xbox has nothing. Hellblade 2 is a 7 hour game. Avowed looks terrible. Indy doesn’t come out until the end of the year. Also, Xbox games will eventually go to the ps5 anyway.

Feels like a duke nukem forever, a project that has been dragged from studio to studio and has gone through several complete re-builds. I'm happy that it came out, but it was a mess and feel like Perfect Dark is going through this process. Time will tell.

Two years ago they(msft) provided the tanks of hopium to us fans because they announced that Crystal Dynamics was going to do the full production. My assumption was that a full team at CD was in active production. 😂, looks like that messaging from Xbox hq was a bunch of bullshit to hide their terrible management practices.

Honestly? Like, truely-honestly? I'd like for them to announce a cancelation for this, but secretly work on finishing it and not ever mention the name Perfect Dark again until they're within 6 months of projected release date. But also Microsoft just backtracked on "Don't worry, Hi-Fi Rush did well, we're not going to shutdown the developers" and then went and shut down their dev team, so uh. If we do get an announcement of a cancelation of Perfect Dark, I'd be inclined to believe it's well and truely canceled-canceled, not backseated-canceled.

As someone whose favorite game of all time is Perfect Dark on N64, I'd like them to remove the name Perfect Dark and rebrand it as anything else. 4 years since the reboot announcement, and dead silence. The best game ever made (the original) was made in just 3 years. They aren't going to prioritize all the things that made the original the best thing ever, so... remove the name. Perfect Dark hardly carries ANY weight in today's gaming landscape... there's already Perfect Dark (N64), Perfect Dark (GameBoy Color), Perfect Dark Zero (Xbox 360), and Perfect Dark (Xbox 360). We don't need a Perfect Dark (Xbox Series X) to continue burying the perfect game that the original N64 incarnation was, lol...

Would be happy with just a remake of the fking original n64 game but with modern tech, keep all original features. Maybe expand/upgrade them. Don't put in any political bs... It was so good as is, just needs brought back. Or heck, just release the original on pc with multiplayer and mouse n keyboard controls. Id love it. I am honestly not interested in this game if it's just a bunch of cutscenes which triple A gaming seems to be right now. Who decided that triple A gaming needs to be cinematic? I don't even hate cutscenes it's just that these developers overuse it like crazy. 1 cutscene every hour for 1 minute max is more than enough. they should focus more on atmosphere aka particle effects, feedback, moving living world, physics. none of that bs that takes away user control. these modern game designers have text books with how they design games i swear.. the UX needs to be like this.. the world needs this many hours of gameplay filled with this many quests and side nonsense.. we need at least 10 hours of cutscenes and 100 hours of irrelevant story so we can market it to ignorant people that don't know how to wipe their behinds. just thinking about post modern gaming makes my blood boil.

Perfect dark?....where is forza 7 that show us a year ago with all the next gen physics and proper next gen engine...where is gow....where is fable....where is the next K.I where is RARE....all these with the next gen presentation of Halo made me purchased my xbox series x but i think it is a better idea to wait for the next gen xbox then.What a disappointment.....

I hope I can decipher your comment properly, but... Forza Motorsport 8 released last year, Forza Motorsport 7 released in 2017, and Forza Horizon 5 released in 2021, they have shown no new Forza games since those have released (though the next one is likely next year: Forza Horizon 6). Gears of War 6 seems like it's going to be announced soon, and the team behind that focused on learning UE5 for a few years before starting full production on that. It's about 25/26. Fable is likely going to be shown again. We have already seen some more choppy cinematic real-time gameplay footage of it already, but we'll probably see more traditional footage soon. All bets point to it releasing sometime next year, with the studio opening in 2018 and the team probably being staffed with all vital developers sometime around 2020 or so. The next Killer Instinct seems to be in development based only on rumors, but if it actually is then it is a 3rd party co-development effort. It appears to have been shopping around for a developer and may have only found a suitable one in Iron Galaxy as late as a couple/few years ago when they first freed up from their own games. Rare in general is focusing on Sea of Thieves, Co-development efforts like the rumored Banjo and KI games, and Everwild (likely to also release sometime 25/26 after the reboot in 2020/2021 where Greg Mayles "saved" the project). Take all this with a grain of salt when it comes to mentions of rumors and leaks of course, but pretty much all other projects aside from Perfect Dark are doing fine now. The pandemic really messed up a lot of this stuff because these projects went through it during important parts of development.
