One of the best Pete found on his many trips to Rome was a tiny little gelateria on Isola Tiberina. They served basil flavour and he says it was delicious!

You missed probably the best gelateria in Rome. Giolitti. I know for fact it was the choice for the Pope of the Vatican(Johannes Paulus II). It was also recommended by local Italian friends as the best gelateria in Rome.
