Gabriel, thank you for your videos right now in these times, I really appreciate them. I have been to most of Croatia as a neighbour from Slovenia but haven't been yet to Brač, Korčula, Hvar and Makarska so you completed my Croatian puzzle in some way. :) In Croatia, I am more accustomed to the Istrian Peninsula (Rovinj, Pula, Opatija), Zagreb, Christmas (and Easter) Story of Salaj Family in Čazma, Plitvice Lakes and Krka National Parks (filming locations of German Winnetou films in 60s), Kornati National Park, Paklenica and northern islands of Lošinj, Pag, Rab and Cres. Dubrovnik and Split are well documented but walls of Ston in the Pelješac Peninsula near Korčula are also incredible. However, I also suggest doing a trip to the island of Biševo near Vis as there is an amazing blue reflection sea cave (Blue Grotto) which is very similar to one in Capri, Italy. If you go to Brijuni near Pula, you can talk to the Tito's speaking parrot Koki there. If you like truffles, there are some nice villages around the Motovun forest in Istria that serve their local dish truffles with fuži (Istrian pasta). I would also suggest some Slovenian and other European destinations but are restrictions in those places. Neverthless, have a nice time in Croatia, Gabriel, and simply do what you like the most.

Western Croatia possesses one of the few things most warmer regions of Europe lack...summer rainfall. This and it's associated cloud coverage/atmospheric moisture + lush vegetation, in my honest view, is what provides a summer the majority of its beauty. That glowing, misty, haziness in the sky. Huge, puffy cumulous clouds. Pockets of rain scattered in the distance. Those living in the southeastern US should be very familiar with this. Truly stunning. Rijeka, Croatia; Milan + Trieste, Italy; and (especially) Sochi/Adler, Russia are few of the only well sized European metropolitan areas with warm annual temperatures that withhold this feature. If only southern France, southern Italy, eastern Spain, Greece, etc. had the same..

This is my ideal beach. Wide and sandy. A little bit of waves. A boardwalk. A cute, old style, beach town with lots of bars and restaurants, right off the beach. But not too commercial. I like more people, not empty, but not crowded. Prices not too high. Where are these beaches?
@xavdanda4 жыл бұрын
The first ones are in Makarska, a small town in the Dalmatian Coast, south of Split... the last ones are a bit of Tucepi and also a bit of Podgora, a few tiny minutes south of Makarska... the sea is majestic, the mountains (Dinaric Alps) that protect the coast are stunning... sun, nice vegetation, olive orchards and grapevines all over... unfortunately the beaches are not sandy, they're pebble... the few sandy beaches I've seen are in Omis, just south of Split. Being from Mexico, I'm used to real nice sand in our beaches, but I can tell you, Croatian beaches are fantastic... if in doubt, just wear water socks and you're ready.
@YesSirPhil4 жыл бұрын
Sounds like Greece. And in Greece you are spoiled with hundreds (!) of islands. There are way more sandy beaches then in Croatia.
@xavdanda4 жыл бұрын
@@YesSirPhil I don't know how many islands and, or islets are there really in Greece... some people say over 2,000 but most say 6,000 and yes, there are many sandy beaches... Croatia has over 1,000 islands and islets, but I think only 48 are inhabited... and I think there are a few similarities...

After Greece though. Croatia is gorgeous, but Greece is far more diverse. The answer has already been answered here on Quora (with Croatians agreeing) why Greece is more beautiful. qr.ae/pN2pDw Croatia and Greece have many similar things though, but essentially Croatia is a small version of Greece, minus the mountains since Greece has 80% mountains of which 20% of all of Europe's Ultra peak mountains, the fact that Croatia has almost no sand beaches etc. It really depends on what you want to do in a country

Just came back from Montenegro and Croatia. Was in Makarska last week. What a beautiful place. You should try Montenegro too. It's a much cheaper country and they use Euro as a currency. It was completely devoted of tourists this years so I had a lot of beaches for myself. Also, the Kotor Bay fjord (Montenegro in general) is just one of the most stunning places in Europe. I would also recommend the Krka national park in Croatia and the awesome waterfalls.

Gabriel has been to Montenegro like 3 years ago (Kotor, Budva, Ulcinj). I visited that country last autumn and was truly fascinated with inland mountainous area around Žabljak and Đurđevica Tara Bridge above Tara River Canyon (with autumn foliage colours in the end of October). The Ostrog Monastery around Nikšić was also nice to see with some wall paintings and icons. But I don't remember if Gabriel has been to Croatian Istria (except Rovinj, that means Pula with the Roman Arena, Motovun truffle forest, Brijuni with Tito's parrot Koki ...), Krka National Park and Plitvice Lakes National Park. He also said that he wanted to explore more of Serbia but had to go out to Croatia due to some new Corona restrictions. I would also say something about my country Slovenia but there are some restrictions in the most of the Schengen area that keep Americans away right now.

@superbura9 superbura9 Overall in July visitor numbers have been at 53% of last year and at 61% overnights (which is more significant). However numbers have been constantly rising throughout July and according to locals and by simply looking out of my window and ferry ports in Supetar and Split it is clear that last weekend was almost on the level of regular seasons. For example number or Polish visitors so far in August have actually been HIGHER than last year (Source MINT).
@xavdanda4 жыл бұрын
Gabriel, If I'm correct, the skywalk just opened July 1st, so I wouldn't be surprised if it is jam packed, however you can still go up the Biokovo, and since you like trekking, going to the Sveti Jure, the highest peak there. It is quite an experience. The Biokovo Mount, as they called it there, although a mountain range is part of the entire Dinaric Alps. The clip of Podgora almost at the end is nice... there are nice beaches at the southern tip of town, you went to the northern one, which is also very nice... what you mentioned about Makarska, to make it your base and then go all over, is what we do in Podgora! Did you go to Omiš? I guess not since you took the catamaran from Split to the islands, and then the ferry... Omiš is just south of Split and it has some stunning sandy beaches, and the zipline above the Cetina river... it is worthwhile if you like that, there is also rafting, and that should be a nice way to go back north... once there, try to make it to Trogir. ENJOY!!!

Croatia actually got pretty decent Tourist numbers from July onwards: its the only mediterranean destination close enough for many Central Europeans to drive to (many dont like flying bc of the pandemic) but without high covid numbers and drastic anti-covid measures (unlike Italy, France, Spain...). Im staying on the Island of Brac right now and people say atm there are some 80-90% of tourists on the Island compared to last year, which is a great result for locals who rely on tourism.
