so many instructors will say to flare out your right foot but I totally disagree w/ that. Glad that you agree.

l used to live in Utah and sometimes l hit balls with Toni/Kipa with their dad at "golf in around" this is when they were kids and yes l can see back then that they would be good. l am happy for them because they did struggle a lil bit after they turned pro.

Straightening the left leg adds to the centrifugal force and helps release the lag you've built up. Took me a long time to realize this on my own. You're exactly right and many golf instructors don't clearly explain this fundamental part of the downswing and finish.

Straightening the lead leg is a natural by-product of applying _centripetal_ force with the upper torso and upper arms, not something you "do". The upper torso functions the same as the hand when twirling a weight on a string. Moving the core in the opposite direction of club/lower arm _inertia_ will automatically cause the lead (braced leg) to straighten (not lock). Consciously attempting to straighten the lead leg complicates timing unnecessarily, and risks knee and hip injury.

IMHO, the speed/power comes from the righ elbow being tucked in via a rightside lateral bend. That provides the whipping effect to maximize club head speed. The final left leg turn/extension is an additive and not the primary source of speed.

straight left arm is a general not absolute rule. Notable exceptions include Jordan Spieth and Calvin Peete. Instructor who allowed Jordan to stay natural and go against conventional wisdom was a genius.

Agree 💯 100 %.

Curtis Strange is another famous example. If I straighten my left arm 100 %, I get tight and hit shorter. If I bend left elbow and Backswing longer I hit way longer so... Think about that please.

Those with longer arms has worse control. There is pros and cons. How can someone with shorter arms outdrive someone with longer arms. 1.make a longer Backswing 2. Bend a bit in the elbow It's all about Compensations

where does a kid like young tony finau learn to set his right elbow like that. How does that become instinctive?
@Wowreally426 жыл бұрын
its a product of the straight left arm. Which is taught immediately when learning a proper swing.

I have a friend who drastically and totally bends his left arm going back and yet outdrives most people in our club by miles - using his 3 wood off the tee. So yeah, I definitely wouldn't say "you would never ever be able to swing it fast" @ 03:42. Surprised you haven't seen examples of this yourself, in your career as a golf coach.

This is a swing from at least 4yrs ago. His footwork has changed dramatically since this video was made. he now clearly has his trail foot on the ground well into the release of the club, a lot of players have been making this move the past few years.

No different than any other player. Power comes from wrists unhinging in swing motion.
