And when future Trunks changes things does it effect past Trunk’s future causing that version of him to witness the future he wouldn’t time travel from or would past him still witness the future like nothing changed?

I am curious what would have happened if Android 16 was able to meet Goku before Bulma fixed his programming… would Goku have been able to beat him, and at what point in the timeline would it have happened? Maybe they could have had Cell run away from the fight with Vegeta to buy time to get Goku in the fight?

The best parts of DBZ, are when Goku isn't around... Piccolo training Gohan, the Garlic Jr Saga was great, the filler of the 1st group that headed to Namic, and all the time leading UpTo Goku's arrival, when Goku was incapacitated from the virus, when Gohan defeated Cell, fTrunks' TimeLine could have been interesting if more was shown... The DBZ movies are the best parts that do include Goku.

I think Gero's whole purpose with building android after android was because he wanted something specific. Like he knew from watching the z fighters over the years that they would continue to grow. None of the androids he built could do that but Cell. 16 might have been his strongest one up until that point but that strength had a limit. He probably thought that living beings had better potential but 17 and 18 were not only weaker than 16, they were rebellious. So he said fuck it and grew one from scratch with limitless potential because of all the cells that's were used. Just an opinion

I would say Android 16 was never activated in the future timeline because Future Goku died of the heart virus and Gero felt that there was no point in activating Android 16 because of Goku’s death.

So of Gero knew Goku was dead and didn't want to release 16 because of that fact; he wouldn't release 17, 18, 19, 20 (himself), nor would he have bothered keeping Cell around.

I think Trunks,Mai,and the resistance finding Android 16 and having him join the rebellion against Goku Black would have been great. Zamasu using the body of Goku works out perfectly,because android 16 was programmed to kill Goku in the first place. If Trunks had to subdue Android 16 in the beginning he surely could by going into his USSJ form,cause he had surpassed 16 by then.If he can shut 16 down without destroying him future Bulma should be able to reprogram him to be with them. I wonder if Bulma left 16's chest bomb in this time he would be able to take Goku Black out if he suicided against him like he tried to do with cell.

I like that Gero had multiple contingencies for Goku. He didn't even have the data on Super saiyan but was fully of aware Saiyan potential tho. Given enough time the Saiyans all surpassed the androids.

@@zabustifuI think the reason Gero came out to fight was because of Future Trunks, on the future time line it was Goku who beat Freeza and Goku who beat Freeza and that scared the hell of him, because an powerful alien form just arrived on earth and Goku still beat it. On the Original time line it was F.Trunks, this means that some random new guy just have beaten said alien and he was not one of the Z fighters so he assumed the alien was just an overconfident inferior fighter that arrived on earth but still worth collecting dna, keep in mind that sinse none of the Z fighters tried to make a stand, the only good reading was from Freeza, Trunks and Goke when he arrived.

In reality Toriyama had to keep changing who the big bad was during the Android Saga, going from 19 and 20 to 16, 17, and 18, to Cell, because his bosses kept wanting changes. In the story though, it made Gero kind of genius, because he made multiple contingency plans to beating Goku, and one of these would of been successful

Yeah, that's why when Goku goes to meet Cell in the ring before the Cell Games, he gets excited as he makes a comment of how it's an enemy created specifically to be better than him, AND how it took several timelines to make their fight possible so it can come to this, so they can _both_ enjoy it. I do think android 16 did exist. In the manga chapter titled piccolo vs android 17, we get an explanation of all androids that existed. We saw Android 8 back in the rb army portion of the story and in the future we know it does happen too. Could just be that 16 was simply not activated or was blown up when the androids destroyed Dr.Gero.

It’s kinda funny, the Android/Cell saga were supposed to be the writing off of Goku in the series, and the establishment of Gohan as the main character, but it didn’t go over well so the ending was retconned in the Buu saga to keep Goku in the story, but the Android/Cell saga is most people’s favorite series.

To answer why Gero may have gone back to human/organic models is probably for the ability to grow. As far as we know, 16 can't just make himself stronger, but both 17 and 18 can. Which is probably why he also went back to energy absorption vs infinite energy, because an energy absorption model that wasn't organic could make itself stronger, just like a human would be able to do, which also leads to him being an absorption model. And the fact that he understood how Goku's rate of growth was is why he may have wanted to work on models that could seemingly grow more powerful as well. That would also explain why Cell was developed the way he was. At least that's what makes sense in the onset. As for 16 existing in other timelines, I would say he did, but he was likely disposed of in those timelines. And if he wasn't...when Trunks went back to his future, why the hell didn't he find 16 and bring him to his mother to be reprogrammed? It's not like he didn't get to witness what 16 was actually like.

i think the reason 16 was completely mechanical was because of his purpose. To see his son again. His brain made him tell himself he wasn’t insane for making it, entered the “kill goku” programming. and ended up never activating him because that was his last remnant of “family”. it’s a dark tragedy in a way. sorry for rambling. just head canon. 16 was stronger than 17 and 18 during the imperfect cell arc, so why would i be worried about 16 unless he thought 17 and 18 would destroy him. 16 would have killed goku with ease

But you could conclude that them taking someone's ki makes them stronger, especially since we have seen that when one character gives their ki to another, they seemingly get a boost from it, even if it is temporary, which has been shown multiple times throughout the series.

Plus we don't know if Goku was at his fullest when 19 drained him because of the heart virus, so how much power 19 got from him also could be called into question. And also, Vegeta didn't let 19 hold him for very long, so even how much he got from him is in question. I'm not even saying I'm right, just that there are multiple things to consider in the situation. The difference in how we are looking at things is that you are basically saying it's cut and dry while I'm saying that there is wiggle room because of how differently things can be interpreted.

Okay so I think I get why Gero went back to cybernetics because 16 was full machine he lacked the emotions to be a full on killing machine it was also stated that Infinite Energy Models like 16,17 & 18 had their behavioral limiters wired into their firmware and Gero had to later disable them. 16 was a failure to Gero because he wasn’t a Cold Blooded Killer like 19 for example. Because 17 and 18 were actually humans at one point they could actually become what Gero wanted because of the faults of Human Nature it’s easier for a human being to become a murderer than a built machine with a mind of its own.

I'd like to add that in the budakai tenkaichi 3 theres a what if chapter that trys to explain why android 16 was deactivated. Dr.Gero sent him into the past to destroy kid goku from the prequal series and android 8 ended up protecting him making 16 ultimately failing his mission to k word Goku. It was a pretty cool idea

Edit: expanded upon and corrected some omissions The use of the word "Android" is inaccurate, only really being correct in the sense of 16 and 19. The Japanese term used, Jinzo Ningen, simply means "Artificial Human" or "Artificial Lifeform" given the context of Dragonball. This encompasses Cyborgs like 17, 18, and Gero himself, Androids like 8, 16, 19, and genetically engineered lifeforms such as Cell. 17 and 18 had Infinity Reactors inside of them, the Infinite Energy wells that kept them going. That is why Cell needed to absorb them; those reactors were the only things that would provide the necessary energy to allow Cell to transform into and subsequently fuel his Perfect Form.

@@chad63 Gero mistakenly believed that the infinity reactors were what made 17 and 18 so unruly, when it was the fact he kidnapped the two delinquents Lapis and Lazuli and experimented on them. In his mind, Energy Absorbing models would have been easier to control. Needless to say, 17 and 18 were just pissed at Gero. Gero's Supercomputer was mostly responsible for Cell's cultivation and creation. Gero made 16 in the image of his son as a sort of twisted memento.

It could be that Gero, having just seen how powerful the opposition had become, realized that 16 might resort to his bomb, which he didn't want not only for fear of being caught in the blast himself, but also didn't want the reminder of his son to be lost. He knew that 17 and 18 were more balanced than the single minded 16, and that they were a bit more powerful than him, yet he didn't have good opportunity to absorb enough energy to equal vegeta and picolo or a healed goku and wouldn't have anyone to watch his back, so 17 and 18 would be the better bet as long as he had his remote. 17 and 18s human emotions meant they wanted to live so they wouldn't through their lives away for the mission.

Since 16 was modeled after Gero's son, perhaps his carefree and love of nature persona was based on Gero's son prior to his life as a Red Ribbon member. Since Gero was a mad scientist, maybe he joined the RR Army because his son was part of that organization. Head canon of course, but just something to think about.... Also, I wonder what would've happened if Android 20 didn't stop 18 from awakening 16. Would 16 have obeyed 20's orders? Shoot, it would've been crazy if 16 had a 'Broly moment' if say Trunks' blast killed 20 or he witnessed 17 destroy him. 16 would've taken out EVERYONE present: Krillin, Trunks, Vegeta, Tien, Piccolo, 17 & 18!

when you think about it, 16 not being activated in the future was the first origin on why 17 & 18 started to destroy Trunk's future timeline, and not precisely because of 16's kindness in the present, 17 & 18 were looking for Goku's house, however neither 17 or 18 had any idea where Goku's house was, until 16 informed 17 & 18 about Goku's house location; In the future however, without 16, then Number 17 and Number 18 were basically unable to find any hint of Goku's location (not knowing Goku already died) so eventually 17 & 18 started to destroy the Amembo Island's city (probably it was inside Gero's plan as well) in orden to make Goku come to them however, Goku was already dead so, basically they lost any sort of purpose, causing Chaos was probably the only thing it could entretain them, the Androids decided to kill the Z-Fighters and cause more chaos

I have a plot theory. General Kappa who was a character never seen before, not in the manga or the anime. However he was a big Fish in the RRA. He might have been Gero's son that died, and #16 is a replica of what he looked like before he died. As for Trunks's timeline we know he wasn't activated in the first place, but I still think he existed there. And after Trunks came back he decided to take care only of #17, # 18 and Cell and forgot about #16 simply never bothered to awake him.

It be cool if Future Trunks faced a threat at some poinnt pre super where he meets an enemy that has him and the world on the ropes again, something similar to the Android level destruction in the past. When all seems lost Trunks or Bulma remember android 16 and know it might only be a small chance he exists but go to search for him. They find him he helps but not as well as expected and almost gets destroyed but luckily survives but is severely damaged. Bulma being Bulma repairs him but figures out she can upgrade him and does so. He returns for round 2 and destroys the threat.

After Goku was gone from his heart condition, he had no objective. He turned to his second passion, bird watching. He went on from there to attend University to study birds. Later, he took up a ranger position in an avian sanctuary. Android 17 visits him once and a while. Proud of his achievements, Android 17 too dreams of Ranging a park.

Maybe the androids from the future really were just more ruthless compared to the main timeline. Perhaps they simply destroyed no.16 along with Gero, or maybe they just didn’t care to awaken another android. Unless no.16 WAS awakened, but since he didn’t have a purpose, he went to live out on his own peaceful journey. It’s also funny that no.16 was only willing to participate in combat whenever it came to Goku, someone who he never actually fought. But the one being he actually DID fight, was Cell, someone composed of GOKU’S cells. It’s funny how, whether intentional or not, that even no.16’s programming was consistent to the writing of DBZ.

My guess about what Gero meant about 16 destroying them all was that he noticed 16 loved living beings. Gero and the teens didn’t care about organic life, and maybe he was scared 16 would destroy all of them, his creations when they went about killing things indiscriminately.

funny thing is 16's data chip or circuit part was just laying on the ground as far as i recall for android 16. besides they had to repair him so wouldn't that mean they would have a base to use for rebuilding another version of them. but with some different looks and reprogram them as well in the process.

In my own head canon 16 was the original muscle for him instead of 19 but screwed up and decided to make the androids to see if that would be any different then again didn’t like it and finally made something he liked more which was 19 and 20 with plans of fixing 16 to replace or have him as a contingency plan if anything went wrong type of thing

I just had a fleeting thought, but I remember the conversation Goku has about not being brought back from the dead. He says that all of these villains come to fight him, so maybe it's better he wasn't around. Perhaps Gero had the foresight to think the same. Maybe Gero, while not wholly "good," recognized that in order to protect the Earth Goku needed to be removed from the picture. So he created androids for that sole purpose, including Cell. Android 16 was made as both a contingency plan for Goku and his own creations, which included the ability to learn an appreciation for organic life and nature.

Logical theory, but there’s two problems with that. 1. Since 16 is more powerful than both of them, we can assume he would survive the lab’s destruction like Cell did. 2. Cell’s flashback takes place in his own timeline, which is completely separate from Trunks’ and the main timeline. It’s the original future where he stole the time machine. We can’t assume the same series of events happened in Trunks’ future, because of the butterfly effect.

Hmm, I'm not sure if I agree with your assessment. I think you forget something very important: In the future timeline, the Z-crew didn't train(as hard)during the three years. Of course, they wouldn't have sat down doing nothing, I can see Vegeta and Goku still doing some major training, but probably nothing insane as in the main timeline. And especially after Goku died, Vegeta might have found himself a little less willing to train, with his main rival dying, not even through his hands. So, what does this mean for the androids? Let's do some speculation! First off - there is no reason to think 19 and 20 aren't the ones who attacked at first. So let's not change this fact. 19 and 20 make their attack. But this time there is no warning something is up, and since there isn't a high powerlevel signaling something is up, most of the crew won't even know that something happened. If Vegeta is still staying at the Briefs, he might be one of the first who gets notified by this attack. Krillin and possibly Yamcha will probably also be up to date rather quick. But Tien and Piccolo will be harder to reach, so a good chance they won't be there during the first fight. And since Goku isn't there, good chance Chichi won't allow her precious Gohan to leave the house. They'll be late, but Vegeta will most likely still be strong enough to take out 19, albeit with some difficulty. Since Bulma isn't there, they will most likely not know 20 is Gero. And when Gero makes his escape, he will arrive at the lab all by himself. And this is possibly very important. There is less of a rush to immediately activate 17 and 18, no one is directly knocking on the door. So the circumstances might be different as well. Gero might be less in a hurry to send the androids to do their bidding, completely changing the dynamics of this conversation. This might lead into a conversion where they don't get curious about 16, or possibly not even see him, thus never activate him. Kill Gero, and just do whatever they want. I don't find it likely that this happens however. It's more likely they still activate 16, Kill Gero, but leave the lab in tact. Why would they destroy it? Now, you showed us something interesting. 17 knows Goku is the strongest and he's interested in hunting the strongest prey. If Goku is dead, Vegeta is going the be the strongest. And they already made clear they wanted to kill the strongest, probably to see where they stand. Vegeta is... a lot easier to find than Goku. So over the coming days, where Piccolo, Tien and Gohan are probably brought up to speed by what happened, the androids will most likely find Vegeta, Kill him, and then eliminate the other strong candidates, aka the rest of the Z-fighters. If 16 would be there, he would probably have felt way less of a companionship towards 17 and 18, since they are senselessly killing people. But there's also a possibility that he returned himself to the lab and deactivated himself once he learned Goku is dead, possibly after seeing Goku's dead body. Without a purpose, I can see 16 wouldn't know what else to do. No friends, no real enemies(It feels like Cell only became an enemy after it was clear he was going to kill 16s friends), there's nothing for him to do. These would be my thoughts on it regardless, great video nevertheless ;D

He was exist in the future timeline according to recent manga, but his design is pure evil just like 17 & 18 there compare to present timeline. Since we're on this topic, where was Android 19 in that future timeline of DBZ? They could do a show down between Android 16 and Son Goku. The only differences between Piccolo and Goku is they already had heated battles until new enemies appear where they agreed to join forces together. Also Piccolo finally able to killed Goku willing to sacrifice, which already satisfied his goal. Android 16 may not struggled mentally that way if he had that same path with Piccolo. If Android 16 is brought back to life and alive up to date in DB story, he would be the ranger to protect animals from poachers instead of Android 17 and it will be interesting to see what Android 17 would be doing. Lastly, where is Android 16 currently? Those have died already existed in King Yama world in different dimensions. Even Android 19 made his return in DBS during Super Android 17 Series, but Android 16 is nowhere to be seen in any dimensions??

The most likelihood situation here is that the androids 17 and 18 where unleashed near the time of when Goku caught the virus, so imagine our present timeline but without android 21, it was 17 and 18 who were activated. Eventually they turned on Gero and killed him before he could have activated 16 hence why 16 wasn’t around in the future timelines. If we go further into the future to cells timeline, the only difference to note is trunks learns about the remote devise through travelling into the past and deactivated and destroys them however the initial events when 17 and 18 arrived occurred the same way. The reason why I believe our present timeline shit got messy was because trunks had planted the seed in the Z warriors to get stronger for 3 years in which Gero’s bug radar had sensed them getting stronger and hence why Gero made his androids stronger, not only did the Z warriors prepare, so did Gero as he watched them prepare to get stronger. The flaw in Gero was trusting 17 and 18 at all, he knew it was either get killed by Z fighters or by his own creation. He chose the latter.

I say he's in the future. He got out after 17 and 18 but never met them. Because of his peaceful nature he just went out into the wilderness to live where 17 and 18 would never go and lived with nature because Gokou was already dead so his objective wasn't needed anymore. By the time Cell came out he would've been long gone with the others so he would've met him before making the main timeline when he came back. That's my headcanon and sticking to it.

This has always been a question in the back of my mind since the android saga. What if Dr. Gero never activated the androids in the present timeline? When piccolo was about to defeat the Android Gero Bulma came out of nowhere giving Gero the opportunity to escape to activate android 17 and 18. Though, what if this never happened giving Piccolo the chance to finally defeat Dr.Gero thus him not being able to get to his lab to activate them. Of course Imperfect Cell would still be I'm I'm sure since it was 4 years prior. Would the Z fighters all be wiped out by him because of not needing to use the time chamber or Piccolo merging with Kami? Would Kami and the Z fighters still sense Cell eventually, then using the time chamber and piccolo merging with Kami to beat him? Then Majin Buu would be a whole other story in this what if scenario, was there a video made on your channel about this? If not that would be a cool one to make sometime too, love your channel and always watch your awesome vides! 🎉

The future androids were shown to be a lot more ruthless than our androids. They also attacked earlier. 16 and 19 were fully mechanical. Going by the assigned numbers one would assume he started 16 first. We know he had been working on 17 and 18 since they were kids. Basically an older brother. I say that because in our timeline, he acts a that. He seems to be more wise and more capable despite being fully mechanical. Other than Goku, he wants no part of the violence initially. Only when a true threat appeared was he willing to resort to destruction. His presence plays a big part in pacifying our androids AND pushing Gohan to unleash ss2. That also led to our 17 and 18 being saved. In the future timeline, I assume they killed Gero and blew up the lab. Leaving only Cell in the secret lab. This would explain why they were a lot more ruthless. In our timeline when 16 and 17 interact, it always seems like he connects in a big brother-ish way. After 17 is bought back, his personality was a lot more in line with 16. A park ranger sounds like the perfect job for 16. The future androids, lacking that interaction with 16, ultimately die. Thinking about it, our androids rarely show the kind of ruthlessness the future ones show and they repeatedly spare the Z-Fighters. 16 could be THE reason the Z-Fighters aren’t killed in our timeline. Conversely, with Goku being dead in the future timeline before the androids arrive. They coulda very well activated 16 and he wanted nothing to do with them. He barely talked to them at first only wanted to find and kill Goku. If he was anything like that in the future timeline, he coulda ditched 17 and 18 living in complete seclusion with nature. 17 and 18 are spared because unlike Cell, he has SOME connection with them, they activated him.

Maybe 16 did fight cell bc his moral compass but also maybe since he’s fully mechanical he doesn’t have more awareness to ignore his programming unlike 17 & 18 since they were human and have wills to resist said programming. I think there has to be a reason that trunks and cell we’re both unaware of android 16. I mean he put it in the story very deliberately twice. Personally I believe that Dr. G wanted his son back so he created 16 in the likeness of his son a perfect robotic look-a-like. But 16 came out so mechanical and clearly unhuman he put him away to tinker with him. I think 16 was able to be more powerful because as an infinite energy model he was completely mechanical and stronger could carry more hardware and he was made to be the strongest possible android with his actual son’s personality traits put in. The nuclear bomb was likely put there to insure he was never captured. Then Dr. G went back to human based androids likely because he viewed 16 as a failure and then with 17&18 they wouldn’t obey him. I think because they’re were infinite energy. 19 the absorbing energy model seems to follow DR. G perfectly. For some reason the infinite energy ones are much more independent and free thinking. Also I think 16 was unknown because in the future trunks timeline a lot happened differently. Like 19&20 show up on the day Trunks expected 17&18. 16 was likely never discovered since future trunks didn’t know were the Lab wass. So 16 development may have been kept secret because Dr. G wanted himself to have a son separate from the killing Goku androids.

Besides the plot and Toriyama and his editors changing the villains , in head canon 16 is a result of Trunks going back in time , same way as 19 and Gero himself became a cyborg instead of being killed way earlier as a human when testing 18 ,17 like in Trunk's timeline. The changes to the plot works cause you can blame it on the "butterfly" effect

He was programmed to hate the Z fighters. And the reason he based him on his son because his son probably didn’t agree with what his dad was doing with the red ribbon army.

I think 16 existed but after finding out Goku was dead refused to join in wrecking the planet. 17 and 18 overpowered him and destroyed him. I understand 16 is much more powerful and the Trunks timeline 17 and 18 are weaker, so the inconsistencies I blame on Toriyama haha.

If 16 had fought Goku he'd have lost even if he was a lot stronger. Goku could do what he did to Cell and teleport to King Kai's planet, leaving 16 there with no way to go back to Earth. And since there wouldn't have been an immediate threat of an explosion, he could have also teleported King Kai to Earth or to King Yenma's desk. If 16 went rogue, there would be fighters who could take care of the problem, like Pikkon or Olibu. I think 16 would try to overpower Goku before detonating his own bomb and that would give Goku an edge. He could teleport everyone to a safe place too
