Where we are, and where we're going. | Zero to Hero: Episode 15 | Guildwars 2 2024

We are getting into the grind part of the game now, with a few other areas to polish up before we are effectively grinding for legendaries, i am going to be putting a hold on the Zero to Hero here once Janthir Wilds comes out, and instead will be doing weekly thoughts videos and state-of-the-game currently from my actual viewpoint. it is pretty impressive how far we have gotten up to this point, but im sure that everyone will be more interested in the new expansion and stuff like that anyways, so we have about 4 or 5 more episodes in what im calling "Season 1" for zero to hero, and we will have periodic updates when we reach luls in the new Expansion.
I am still going to be making content, and content similar to this, but it will be based around the NEW stuff, instead of stuff that we have been playing.
Ultimately i'll be entering my Capstone courses for my BSPM here in August, But following that i'll definitely be able to blast KZbin and keep the content flowing- im shooting for a 2x weekly upload cycle, but we will see what we can do.

For the story I stick with my main character because that way at least 1 character has all the stories done and if I need to go back and re-do the story for achievements, I know exactly which character I can do that on. As for the homestead, the most exciting feature that I am excited for is the instant gathering! I also don't see myself playing around much with decorations but that will depend on how the system actually works. Good luck on your Zero to Hero Episode 16!

howdy, if you have get tired of this format or if you have the time the community would really appreciate guides made by you, you're really good at it tyvm, much love from brazil q1: reeeeeeeeeeally excited about it, they've been huge parts in other mmorpgs so anet definitely have a potential with this feature q2: i havent even completed the whole story, missing lws4, ibs and eod but yeah i use my very first char to complete story, after that i cant see myself replaying story with other characters

I like the idea of the homestead. I don't really have much in the way of farming nodes unlocked. However, this made me look into it. Whoa, that's expensive.

1) I think homesteads are going to be fun. I'm not a hardcore designer, but I enjoy having a personal, customizable space. Personally, I would've like to be able to do more with the home instance (since it reflects the cultural heritage and vibe of most characters better), but I'll accept that it's probably easier and more beneficial for the xpac to implement a new feature rather than risk breaking an old, established feature. 2) Technically all my characters are "story" characters, since my brain just naturally gives them backstories and personalities, but I definitely have a main that I've finished the whole story with. Granted, that character did the story wildly out of order (Core, HoT, PoF, LWS2 E1-4, LWS4, IBS, LWS3 1-3, EoD, rest of LWS2, LWS1, SoTO Act I and II, rest of LWS3, and SoTO Act III). My current goal with one of my alts is to do the story in order, to see how it feels just going straight through. Looking forward to your thoughts on Janthir! It's pretty cool seeing how far you've gotten in 15 weeks; I've just barely gotten to the same account gold-value after dinking around for four years, with nowhere near as much progress on the legendary raid armor set. Guess the difference goes back to what you keep saying--when you log on, have a goal for the session and focus in to accomplish it.

After about the next 5 weeks I'll be taking a break from zero to hero, and play through Janthir on the main. I'll likely have some "thoughts" videos each week covering how the new expansion feels. Got a good couple weeks left before launch so I'm excited to see where we end up before I take a break!

Question 1 def excited for homesteads and Im looking forward to making something fun there with the build system and if I remember correctly that same building variety goes to guild halls too which is fun. Question 2: I usually go through new story stuff on my necro might be bcs its comfy to solo things with it and def my most played class too.

1) I definitely need more people pushing for the Menagerie. My partner barely plays GW but that was the FIRST thing she asked for when i showed her the preview. She loves collecting pets and I’m sure a lot of people do too. 2) I used to main my Ele up through POF. Then I did the Return To achievements on my Necro (based on my GW1 main) and omg Reaper makes things so much easier. Why did I waste so much time on Ele. So now Reaper is my story character lol

1) I think i ll mostly use it to farm home nodes, if there will be some nive collection of ports to fractals and strikes i will may be run them from home. 2) I got 2 mains 1 for spvp to try to finish my goal to get 200 wins on all classes and 2nd for pve content and wvw. I change my main character time to time and mostly clear storyes with my current main character.

Yeah I think I cycle through characters too. I'm not sure if I can be bothered with soto for another time. I need to do more spvp

1) I wouldn't say I'm excited about homesteads, but I'm interested. It seems it will be a decent place to kill some time in with decorating when I have nothing else to do and some time to kill. 2) I tend to use different characters to complete expansions first on. For EoD I did it on my Rev and for SOTO I finished it on my engi unless my mind changes I think I'll be finishing Janthir first on my Ranger since I have really gotten into Untamed recently.

I haven't messed with untamed hardly at all! I might bust out the ol thief for JW. I want to get into more pvp aspects and I think thief would be fun. Also I think thief spear is going to be strong lol

I'm not gonna invest too much time in homestead decorations since that's not my thing, but I might actually purchase volitile gathering set just for the glyphs for the homestead instant gather, I never bothered with home instance gathering because its too much time investiment and little payout, but now that we saw in the preview that you will be able to instant gather a lot of nodes and with glyph on top of that, it now seems it will be worthwhile to own more and more home instance gathering nodes as well the volitile glyphs. I hope homestead will be like mistlock/pvp lobby where you can jump in and out of it and keep your place in open world. About the main character, yeah I do have one, its my first character which is an engineer that I started playing the game and really enjoyed playing the class, so I just play every new story as well as getting the story achievements in the same character. I started the game back in EOD launch after seeing a trailer on twitch and was reminded this game existed, I was in the mood to try out something like this (MMORPG with more action oriented combat) and tested the game in trial, engineer was the first class I played and really enjoyed the experience through up to level 35 I think before I reflected in my experience and thought I would put in more than 100 hours in the game, so that was the moment I dropped 100 bucks in the ultimate edition. 2 years later that same character is still my main that I do almost everything with, minus of course open world events or general open world stuff that does not require much attention.

Nice! Gj on getting ultimate, it's definitely worth the money per hour of game time you get. I think on my main I calculated it to be something like $0.40 x hour or something. But I like playing all the different classes and stuff, my main has been neglected heavily during this playthrough

My kids are going to obsess over the new homesteads. Not really my cup of tea, but I know they’re gonna love it. I think I’m nearly onboard with buying Janthir Wilds, but I haven’t bought quite yet. I always pick up the Deluxe version of xpacs for me and the kids. That’s 4x of the higher cost…so I have to build up my confidence in it a bit more.

with the spear test i was disappointed in the ones i tried except for Mesmer, that one felt cool to use imo. The rev felt slow and like a worse shortbow with even worse range, while the ele felt weird to use cuz it didn't fit well with the playstyle of the tempest or weaver. oh warrior and thief were cool though I'm 100% a homestead enjoyer my favorite thing to do in games, I still play sims 2 and 3 to build houses. Ideally I'd love for homesteads to work the way it does in OSRS or be similar to the mistlock sanctuary or something with portals, crafting bench, food buffs etc. But it would take away from those lounge passes my main is the character i go through all the story with and won't do current content till I've gotten to that point in the story. my alt can do go wherever

Enjoy your HoT playthrough and time there on the new account - not sure how you feel about it, but I always love playing the metas and running content in those maps. Q1.) For me, I'm middle ground on homesteads. I've loved decorating/housing and design-type stuff in other games, but if GW2 guild halls are sort of the benchmark in terms of what's available and possible, I'm doubtful I'll get into it. I'm genuinely hoping to be wrong and surprised, though. Q2.) Yes, I've played my beta character (ele) as my story "main" since forever, I have gotten connected to her over the years and she definitely feels like the "face" I sort of have in Tyria. I don't RP, but I do get a nice immersion sense from that vibe after all these years. Nice update as always, and even though I'd support you streaming, I'm glad you're sticking with vids. You're great at producing them and they've become like part of my morning routine, haha. Have a good week Sil!

Thanks Rain, I'm glad you're enjoying it and I appreciate the support. I personally love HOT so I'm not against running them, however I am a little concerned with needing to hit all the metas. I'm sure I'll find a way to make it work. I got into a DS this morning actually so I have about half the ingots I need already. Not too shabby. I was doing all story on my guardian for a cool minute, however I switched over to Rev for soto, not sure who I'll pick for JW. Maybe necro? Maybe Ele (*gasp*)?

2) Mainly been on Me Thief for like 7k Hours... or more.. so I figured best to have the one to complete all Story content on. Harder back in the Day, but now that I have multiple builds to choose from or work around... makes things a little more doable with Thief.

I just picked up Soto and eod from the sale, so I feel like I’ll have enough to play without buying JW. I do feel the game really incentivizes you though to buy the newest expansion if you want the top of line meta builds, (I was feeling this with the weapon mastery and the new relics when I didn’t have Soto) As for my story character it’s definitely reaper. I’ve been playing reaper so long that I feel it has taught me bad habits that end up hurting me when I try new classes 😂

Current playtime is 1.3 hours x day. Some days more, some days less. Only 141 hours over the past ~106 days.

Honestly, I'm not hyped at all with the new expansion and after trying the beta spears I'm 80% sure that I will not buy the next expansion. I don't like this type of content release or expansion type, when they drop content from time to time, If I have paid an entire price for everything that you have announced, give me everything in one day. If I pay the entire price of the expansion but you only release spears, then you release raid, then fractals, It feels like I have to pay now and you start working tomorrow and you release the product with barely any test and full of bugs ( just like Lonely Tower). If Anet release bit by bit, then let me buy bit by bit. You want spears + Story? 10 dollars. . You want housing ? 5 dollars. You want raids? 5 Dollars. You want fractal + extras? 5 dollars. Housing? Sorry I didn't liked Sims I will never like "custom your house" games. Spears? They felt like " Meh" to me. New raid? Not in release, not CM when they release. Announced for "around November 2024" , not even have a date for the release. First quarter of 2025 for the CM ( not date again). Convergences are just a joke, a rift hunt but instanced. Final major release for Guild Wars 2 ( maybe around June 2025) New fractal with CM, BUT , Anet have their most atrocious, boring and hell of a bug content release that is called " Fractal Lonely Tower normal and Challenge mode " which btw was 1/3 of the instanced content they announced for SoTo ( the others 2 were Cosmic and Febe Strikes, but imo, only Febe was a "nice" strike?). With that in mind, they only released 1 regular to good encounter out of 3 and I do not trust Anet anymore, mostly because they tend to not fix the bugs of the game.
