Hi Shane, we just moved to the Birmingham area, where we have bought a little over an acre of land. I've always wanted to grow muscadines (my grandmother had them in SC when I was little and I have very fond memories), and now that we have a little room, we're planning our setup. I ordered 9 plants (3 of them from Ison's, thanks to your recommendation), and we're going to get our trellises built this weekend. I just wanted to say thanks for these wonderfully informative videos! I've been watching them for a couple of days and I feel like a junior expert now. :) I, too, made it to the end of the video.

I thought it was very intestine video, I won't grow grapes but I am growing beans, something is chewing holes in my leaves I haven't seen anything live on the plants. So now that I know Japanese beetles love beans I'll be looking for them as well as tomatoes worms, and potato bugs. So far the only things bugging my plants are my dog, chipmunks, squirrels, cotton tail bunnies, (saw my first Jack rabbit yesterday morning), and all the birds. Sir, I was raised in S. Tx, very small town named Ingleside. When I was growing up during the 70's and 80's we had wild muscadine everywhere. So many, I've seen groves of old oak trees disappear, vines killed them. Daddy just passed and when I was clearing his land to remove an old barn that had collapsed, I had to cut down a muscadine that had a base bigger around than my thigh. The shear weight of the vine caused the the structure of the barn to fail. My understanding is the French would harvest muscadine from Ingleside before we were a country.

@@KinfolkFarmofGeorgia Sir, no you don't. If you did, you would have had a 20 inch chainsaw in your hand, fighting yellowjackets, and just trying to say alive on a redneck engineered platform. So glad I found you! I got my grapes from Isons and couldn’t figure out what to do with the blue thing and thats how I found you. Your the best muscadine teacher. Can you please tell me why are the tips of the vines yellow. I started mine in this fall and I’ve already pinch the top. But now my new growth is yellow. I see you have some yellow on yours too. I did like you said and I have started fertilizing but only did my first fertilizing application this month (June). Do I need to maybe do a liquid fertilizer? Thank you so much
@KinfolkFarmofGeorgia3 жыл бұрын
Wouldn't worry much about being behind on fertilizer. Just don't panic lol. They are really tough plants and will grow fine without all the help. Just keep them watered well through out this summer. They love water and stick with what you are doing. Keep those beetles under control to. Should be fine

Yes just don't spray plants lol. Been using it for years no problems. Some people will tell you to mulch but DONT DO IT. Muscadines have shallow roots and it will promote them to grow in the mulch and a hard winter can kill your plants
