Bought a house near the Paris, Tx area a couple of years ago. Thankfully the owner had several muscadine rows growing on the property but hadn't been able to maintain them for about 4 years. Hadn't seen any muscadine since growing up in NE La so I was excited to see them. Decided to expand them and bought the same Ison's starter kit. The Frys did ok. 1 Summit died due to bad location (too wet). The other summit is still struggling to make it. One cowart died. The other appeared to die but finally re-budded down low and grew up the wire last year. This year the upper part died again and it budded again down low and was coming out of the blue tube. I screwed up and accidentally cut off the good part. Hoping it tries one more time.

Good conversation. Surprised that they promoted that many female plants. I havent heard about 1 to 3 ratio on SF and F. Give them time, sometimes he plants wake up slow. Muscadines can be as bad as chicken math. Only thing is making sure you have appropriate trellising. We've used existing fencing with some as well. (We've planted 1 in the last 2-3 years.)

That is exactly what happened with me! I started out wanting 2 rows and now I'm up to 4 rows just trying to see if they wake up and not wanting to wait another year! Good luck with yours and please update if yours come alive.

I had same experience when I bought dormant bare root muscadines delivered in February. They were all dead but one and I played back and forth with customer service on returns until the warranty ended. I bought live Carlos at tractor supply and it’s a great producer. I’m close to you in DFW. First year I didn’t get any Carlos but production increased over 3 years

That's good to hear. I'm hoping to get at least a few next year but only time will tell. I'm just at the wire on most of the plants.

How are the cowarts doing now? I work at tractor supply in Benbrook and we have some cowarts here.

I lost one but the other one has done well. I think it was just a one off issue. I'm growing them in alkaline clay so they grew slow last year. This year I'm using sulfur to adjust the ph and hoping they'll grow better.

As soon as you see life = Fertiziler around the soil. So it has the nutrients ready to bloom. Remember a high Phosphorus number and Nitrogen = Better for early season. It’s like waking up a grumpy dog but they realize there’s food and their happy.

I would eliminate any doubles you still have. After they mature, 1 plant will produce more than enough for your family and neighborhood. I feel your pain, I lost 2 plants this spring. 1 Supreme & 1 Paulk. 2 plants I didn't want to die. I grow singles of Pam, Black Beauty, sugargate, Cowart, nisbit, Jumbo & sweet mix.

I have heard they yield well but I will plan on preserving a lot of them through juices and jams. I've also got 9 citrus trees, and 10+ other fruit trees. I'm hoping one day to have a food forest lol.

I had no luck with Isons... I only ordered two plants from them bare root just to try them out. One lived one was dead. Contact to them through email about 4 days later they said they would apply the Lost amount to my account which was about just the cost of the plant not the shipping which was okay. Went to check my account I couldn't get into my account when I finally did it show no credit to my account. They kept telling me to call the number and I called the number and nobody would ever answer it was always recording so I'll never buy anything else for them. They can have my $15. I found a place here in Fayetteville North Carolina Bell seed who charges about $15 for a potted 1 gallon plant many different varieties of muscadines. No more bare roots for me
