I've been flying with ADS-B in and out for over a year. Wow, there are so many airplanes out there that I never saw before. The other week I had a Towered but no radar controller try and put me on a direct collision course with another airplane on final. I saw him on ADS-B in but not visually. I said no, won't turn base right yet. In a few minutes I had a visual on the plane on final. In busy airspace (Tampa Bay FL for me), ADS-B is a no brainer!

As a Canadian who occasionally flies to the U.S. I'm following this closely. I have ADS-B In, a Raspberry Pi with Stratux talking to ForeFlight. ADS-B out will require more $$$, and is not something I'll be doing just yet.

I fly in an area of the country with a high number of military training flights. I use ADS-B in/out and it has saved my bacon. I don't think I would fare very well tangling with a Blackhawk in my sport plane. I think everyone is thinking of this in terms of how cheaply they can comply but I recommend the full meal deal, whether you are flying light sport or a light jet. In other words, it isn't just for controlled airspace. However, to use it correctly, you must understand how it works... If we all used ADS-B, the sky would be a much safer place. I would also like to point out that it is completely unnecessary to go to the expense of having a fully certified unit installed in your GA aircraft. The portables work well enough. Nobody is going to know the difference as long as it gets the job done. Considering this switchover is probably going to be a big clusterfudge anyway (and an enforcement nightmare), I think the FAA will be happy people are at least complying in spirit.

They are doing this mandate so they can charge you every time you fly, I heard it will be $.50-$1.00 amile so every one must look into this and make sure this does'nt happen. They have been trying to charge GA pilots for this but have'nt figured a way to keep track, but now they have it, tell every pilot you know and spread the word

Oh shit I hope not, that would be dreadful. It could ruin GA.

That sounds like some more conspiracy nonsense. Nobody is going to charge you for adsb, just like nobody charges you to use GPS.

not sure if you omitted this but without ADS-B out, you will not be allowed to fly in Class B and C but also above and below that airspace and above 10,000 ft
@brucerogers3130
@brucerogers3130 6 жыл бұрын
You can fly UNDER class B and C airspace but not above with ADSB. The mode C veil still will exist around class B airspace so mode C transponder will still be required around Bravo airspace.
@brucerogers3130

Sorry wrong about class B mode C veil, The diagram on the FAA websight does not agree with the text. It clearly states that ADSB will be required anywhere mode C is required now. That includes the 30 mile circle mode C veil from the surface to 10,000 feet.

J S, yes, that's exactly why I would NEVER EVER rent from a place that does not have ADS-B out at least. It would be too restrictive and impractical (kind of like I view the recreational pilot license).
@SlackActionBumble
@SlackActionBumble 4 жыл бұрын
They should just start requiring it everywhere. Because now people are getting too reliant on it and are not visually scanning for traffic as much. This makes an airplane flying "dark" that much more dangerous.

There are so few planes in the air, adsb mandate is such a waste of money. Look out the window if VFR, stop staring at every electronic gadget for your every move in flight, this actually is the cause of many problems.

I’ve been flying for 50 years , can’t believe how many flying freedoms have been lost or our other freedoms too, l wonder how many less airplanes are flying now as compared to the 60’s, I seen two midair’s in my life they both happened in class B airspace.
