Nice little tour video, thanks. Another little known hidden gem within Watamu is a villa called Bingo House Watamu - an amazing place for a family especially with kids. Modern fully serviced house with a huge pool including a big water play area for kids. Absolutely amazing place, had a blast there!

It's a throwback for me. I performed at Hemingways every Wednesday, late 2001 to early part of 2002 before returning to college somewhere since I was in between colleges still figuring out what I wanted to do with myself. Thanks for the kind reminder. You bring wonderful memories

Intro: white Kenyan. As an Airline pilot retired, Thailand. x bush pilot , Kenya and Tanzania. to get to Watamu, I kindly suggest , you need to fly to Malindi, get in a taxi drive to Watamu, as kids we used to go to Ocean Sports , the Kenya cowboys called it Open Shorts, just behind Hemingways.for the deep Sea fishing,( continental shelf has a massive drop off opposite Hemingways 5 miles out) 100 yards behind Hemingways was Open shorts, in those days. Did you do a video on !amu, also you can fly to Lamu, from Wilson. Really enjoy your video’s text book happy family. But you do make me homesick. My land is Kenya, by Roger Whitaker. Chris Northern Thailand.kwahiri guys.

I have been thinking about visiting Watamu again after many years and am interested in how it has changed. I was first there in 1971 and was able to pitch my tent for 5 shillings a night more or less on the beach about (as far as I can judge) half way between Ocean Sports and what seems to be called Blue Bay IGV. Ocean Sports was there but the other one is new. There used to be an old Kenyan man who came down the beach with some fish he had caught and we would buy a couple off him, fillet them, poach them and eat them. I imagine this is no longer possible. Sometimes we would wander the 100 yards or so down the beach and eat and drink at Ocean Sports. I imagine this is still possible. In short then, how much have things changed and where is good to stay and to eat? Obviously you like it so I'm keen to hear what you have to say. Thanks, Mike

Oh wow, I can't even imagine how cool it was back then! Things have definitely changed considerably since then I'd say. Don't get me wrong, it certainly hasn't been commercialised and lost its charm. It's maintained a lot of it's simplicity and rawness, but I would imagine since your last visit a lot of hotels and houses have been built and it's much busier. We still love it though and it's not as touristy as somewhere like Diani, but I'd speculate it's not too far behind

The best Pizza in Watamu you can enjoy at Marinas Bar and Restaurant 😊 I am there now , time by time, for 11 Years and it is a nice arrea. Only to build a house and to get a working permit is a little bit difficult 😅

What about them? It's nature 🙂 We see small (harmless) snakes all the time but they don't pose a threat to humans. Plus the Resort has cats who help keep the population under control 😉

Good question. It's a close one between watamu and Diani... Watamu feels a little more untouched, and for us I think it's our preference
