Nice argumentation, but there is 1 thing you don't realize: If you take BCAAs "in between" protein meals, it is still doing a lot, because your body has always tons of EES floating in your system → assuming you get your daily req proteins. It's a myth that your body utilizes all proteins within a short time after ingestion → this is a long process which spreads over several hours, many different stages. Meaning you wouldn't actually ever be able to "sneak in" BCAAs into a "EEA-free body". However I think only a real world test would show if it all makes any difference.

Always thought BCAA's should be consumed separately as body prioritizes their absorption over other aminos, i.e. 20 mins or so before and immediately after workout with slight gap of say 10-15 mins before consuming a shake (stacked with 10g of glutamine). May start to replace BCAA's with EAA's tho' after hearing this. Another thing... as soon as started to consume BCAA's many years ago my DOMS dramatically reduced, that said a shortfall in any aminos prob creates same situ... remember running out of lysine couple years back and couldn't believe how sore I became post workout without it.

Thomas there was another study saying that BCAAS compete w each other (leucine with isoleucine and valine for their carrier tryptophan) so they inhibit that MPS, or more accurately they only slow it down by 1 hr. Therefore it's not harmful to have BCAAS because we get them all the time from foods, but for the best MPS they say to take 4-5 mg of leucine only, post workout , and about 30 minutes before your post workout shake. So assuming we all go to the gym we'll all have a shake not "post workout meal", and they recommend 40 g of whey protein for people over 40. If you're in your 20s you can get away with 25-30 g.
@Soxruleyanksdrool2 жыл бұрын
1. Still don't understand why anyone would take only BCAAs. If you're getting your aminos by supplementing already, just take EAAs. This way, you're getting ALL NINE essentials, which includes the three BCAAs plus six more. Unless I'm missing something, this seems like a no-brainer to me. 2. Do EAAs count as protein? What I mean is, I'm on keto and my goal is 75% of calories from fat, 20% from protein, and 5% from carbs. If I take BCAAs, do they count as protein to the point where I have to eat more fat to still meet my macro percentages? 3. I am also 16/8 intermittent fasting from 9pm-1pm. I have coffee in the morning, but try as I might, I cannot stand the taste of black coffee. I must have some kind of dairy in it, and I don't care for coconut or almond "milk". So I put heavy cream and either stevia or monkfruit in my coffee. My question is: I know the coffee I drink is keto, but is the heavy cream breaking my fast? Thanks in advance for y'alls help.

I have heard contradicting information from Dr. Berg who says you don't want to take EAA's with a meal as the two proteins will compete with one another. His Keto Essential Amino supplement is advised to be taken on an empty stomach. I am of course not saying they should be avoided in conjunction entirely, just maybe not at the exact same time. EAA's are absorbed very quickly (~23min).

Training fasted is normally not recommended. But some folks are happy with that… so who am I to judge. BCAAs are a not necessary to supplement. A pre workout meal is working for me. EAAs could be a nice addition…. But also not really necessary. I eat a kind of quark before. Low in fat and sugar, but very high in protein. Almost all amino acids included. I usually add some chicken protein… but it’s not necessary. After workout I get a whey protein shake. That’s enough and you can safe money on EAAs and BCAAs. Protein synthesis is a process taking place around 48-72h. Just make sure to get enough protein… preferable 3-4 times a day. If you do fasting… then may god have mercy on your soul… 😂

Hi, I'm new to your channel. I wanted to ask, is it true that having a protein shake after my workout will knock me out of ketosis?? I've started keto this week and I've been having a protein shake after my workout for the last 5 years. Its a healthy one, but I was told that because whey protein is to lean, will knock you out of Ketosis. If this is true, can I add 2 tablespoons of peanut butter inside the shake? Will in counter this effect and keep me in Ketosis?
@zenmind47113 жыл бұрын
It's trivial. After a workout lactic acid recycling back to glucose (Corey/lactic acid cycle) and glycogen recovery are prioritized in the liver and ketogenesis may be somewhat inhibited temporarily regardless due to increased insulin necessary to transport glucose back to the muscles. It's unavoidable with exercise . So at this time you're not really losing much if any by consuming the protein. The benefits and need for protein outweighs any loss. The peanut butter isn't necessary and may actually have more negative effect than positive considering the effect the mix of fat and carbs may have on the (Randle cycle) and( INCRETIN system GLP-1,GIP ), possibly inducing momentary insulin resistance and an increased insulin response rather than a buffering or blunting effect. Cycling in and out of ketosis due to natural occurrence isn't bad. Chronic stress, poor sleep and processed carbs/sugar/fructose are certainly unfavorable reasons that induce insulin resistance. Insulin sensitivity and metabolic flexibility should be the goal of most ketogenic diets not necessarily ketosis itself . During glycogen recovery time after a workout may be the best time to back load protein or even some carbs with minimal consequences or time out of ketosis. Empty muscles will soak up the glucose and insulin and ketosis will resume afterwards. Those who practice low carbohydrate diets are usually insulin sensitive. A nice insulin spike after a workout is very anabolic. More so than in an individual that is more insulin resistant, so the anabolic effect of back loading protein or even some carbs directly after a workout is worth the loss of some keytones if gaining or maintaining muscle is desired. Also consider the insulin countering effects of glucagon and epinephrine that will increase as well when you consume protein. Glucagon will counter act insulin and promote glycogenolysis and gluconeogenisis in the liver which will speed up glycogen recovery and ultimately returning to a ketogenic state. There is recent research by radio isotope amino acid tracing that shows very little protein is used by the liver for gluconeogenisis , so if you're not consuming carbs the glucose is being formed from breaking down triglycerides /fat. The main point of that is regardless of whether or not your body is using more glucose for fuel at times than others if the glucose is coming from fat and not dietary carbs then you're still utilizing body fat or dietary fat regardless of the rate of ketolysis ,lipolysis or beta oxidation. If you haven't already, check out the channel Low Carb Down Under. You may find this video interesting .Dr Benjamin Bikman - Insulin Vs glucagon :The relevance of dietary protein. @@zenmind4711 Wow, thanks so much my friend! You seem quite knowledgeable on this! Are you a nutritionist or anything like that? And in short, you are saying I should be fine with just a regular healthy protein shake after my workout?

Keto is 75% fat,,, so if you take 20 grams of whey you'll have to add 60 grams of fat to that,,, otherwise that meal would be psmf and replenish glycogen stores a little bit kicking you out of ketosis for a couple hours since only 15% of whey gets used,,,

Best case scenario in my training is to take EAAs fasted and before bed and make sure that I eat tons of high quality protein throughout the day. The benefit of EAAs is that you can drink them and maintain a fast and they are highly bioavailable. If I don't drink EAAs my recovery time is increased. Bodyhealth makes a great EAA supplement.
