I use Fidelity, and they started offering fractional shares a few weeks ago, but only through their mobile app. I suspect they'll begin rolling out that feature through their web based and their Active Trader Pro platforms in the near future. This is a game changer and a big big deal in the world of investing. Now you can invest like $100/mo on your favorite stocks like Amazon or Google, instead of saving up for a full share (~$2.1K & ~$1.5K respectively). I also use E*Trade and I find their platforms more appealing, but they don't offer fractional shares (yet) 😒.

Things are changing so rapidly. As of today, my favorites are: 1) Charles Schwab. They are the jack of all trades and offer great Index mutual funds and travel card perks. 2) Fidelity. Similar and slightly cheaper to Schwab. Great for those minimalist who don't travel. 3) M1 Finance, aka Vanguard 2.0.

I've used most of them and the easiest to understand are Webull, TD Ameritrade, and Fidelity. The key to making money on the stock market is the timing, and the best time to trade is between 4 am and 9 am. After that Robinhooders take over and flood the market with the short attack.

Consumer alert: commissions are only one way brokers make money. Other ways include payment for order flow, Regulation T float and other things that tilt the playing field to the advantage of the broker. What's generally far more important than commissions is execution quality, particularly for active traders. This means getting a good price when you place an order. Often this is called price improvement: when a broker gets a more favorable price for you. If you are trading often or in large volumes, execution quality can make a significant difference in your gains. For average retail traders it may not make as much of a difference, but the bottom line is that zero dollar commissions aren't always the best deal overall. If you pay no commissions but get poor order execution, then you're actually paying more money for a given trade. Caveat emptor.
@dcarsondavis
@dcarsondavis 3 жыл бұрын
What's your recommendation?
@LoanwordEggcorn
@LoanwordEggcorn 3 жыл бұрын
@@dcarsondavis First and foremost, look for a broker that doesn't use "payment for order flow" as a way to make money for the broker. Usually this needs to be disclosed to customers somewhere. Second look for statistics about their price improvement history. Competitive brokers will usually track that and provide the information to potential customers. Interactive Brokers is very good in both regards. TradeStation may also be good. Both are oriented towards professional traders and Interactive Brokers has fairly high minimum account balances for novice traders/casual investors. That said, these things generally only matter if you trade a lot. If you are starting out or are a long term buy and hold investor (which is usually the best way to actually make money, if you pick good companies), it probably doesn't matter nearly as much as if you trade relatively often. But even buy and hold investors will benefit somewhat from price improvement. Better prices make better profits.

The camera's autofocus (zooming in and out constantly) is a little distracting. Other than that, great coverage across multiple platforms. I have tried TDAmeritrade ThinkorSwim, it is a huge learning curve, and yes pretty much geared for day-traders. 6 months in, and I'm still learning to navigate the controls on this spaceship. I am using Fidelity, and I'm finding that their website is easier to navigate for researching purpose. I don't like their Active Trader Pro application... I find it really glitchy in comparison to TDAmeritrade's ThinkorSwim. In the area of day trading, TDAmeritrade is a clear winner (but that's just my opinion). As for M1 Finance, I love the fact that I can set the target allocation for the portfolio (and the individual "slices") within the portfolio, as well as embedded slices. This keeps the portfolio in check, so that purchases can be limited to my set sector allocation. I find that it really helps humanize the daunting process of asset allocation. However, because I have enjoyed the experience of creating other types of orders other than market orders in Fidelity, I find that M1 finance is limited in this area. Secondly, setting up the portfolio and its embedded targets for the "slices" is a bit of a learning curve. I hope that in the near future, M1 Finance will have a PC app in which you can drag and drop your holdings from one slice to another for organization purpose.

They claim have limit order but they do not get executed!!! Sets there and pass them despite the fact i was selling much cheaper or buying much expensive than the mud point!!! And even the price hit the bitting price the market price still mt orders would not be executed!! As for the other trash app moomoo it freezes abd can nit be loaded all the time!!! On top if that webull stops trading everyday completely from 4:30 to 5:30 or 6:30 pm and you can not trade completely!! Also webull stick price is different from Robinhood price!! I put a sale order in both Robinhood and webull for 0.293 the mid point reached 0.294. IN seconds the Robinhood order was executed. The webull still setting there!!! The mud point reached 0.301 and still thete did not move!!! The bitting price even reached 0.295 and still the order was not executed not even at the market bitting price!!! Very frustrating! I heard that Charles Schwab is planning on offering fractional shares in order to attract younger investors. It makes me wonder if all the other big brokerages are going to follow suit. Would this be a concern for M1 Finance if everyone else offers fractional share trading and creating your own pie portfolio?

I heard about that! It would definitely bring M1 some competition, but I don't think it would take away their business completely. I think that the advantage M1 has is that their platform is almost like a cross between a regular brokerage and a robo-advisor.

What do you think would be better to move to from Robinhood between Charles and Fidelity. I’m looking to have a new cash brokerage plus open an IRA and prefer 0 commission OTC trades. Any thoughts? I’ve narrowed it down to these two but can’t decide lol 😂 Also, if I wanted to incorporate light day trading, I wouldn’t want to be limited on amount of trades. Thank you!

DOES ANYBODY KNOW ? -- I'm in Canada, and wanting to set up a free, zero commission trading account. I have heard that Fidelity is available in Canada, but Robinhood, and Webull are not. Question is -- does anyone know if Fidelity is available to Canadian citizens ? Please let me know on this, if you know the answer -- many thanks :)

All these brokerages are good and the no fee trades are great! Personally, I’m with Schwab because I like the other financial options (cards, bank accounts) and that they’re great for traveling since there’s no ATM fees anywhere in the world for unlimited transactions. I also read often they have awesome customer service. To me I just feel the most comfortable with Schwab and have been very happy thus far having my Roth there!

TD Ameritrade only have USD0 for US citizen. I was planning to use TOS but since my residency is Malaysia, I need to register with Singapore TD Ameritade. So no zero commision for those who open with Singapore account. I like TOS papertrader platform. Unfortunately it is expensive. I use tastyworks for my option spread and zero dollar for shares. Now I am planning to do research on others traders platform. Any suggestions?

Hey Arvabelle, thank you so much for the detailed comparison! Just making sure, when using TDAmeritrade, we are only required to deposit a minimum if we are considered as a Day Trader, right? That means if you are a long-term investor, no minimum deposit is needed. Is that correct?

I am trying to sign up for one of these trading apps. Where would your money sit while you are waiting to buy stocks? Do I have to keep my money in the app? Or can I move the money into the app when I am ready to buy? I do not want a long wait time when I ready to buy. I want to be set up so I can buy stocks quickly without waiting. Any suggestions ?

Robinhood is the best for that. But E*TRADE once you deposit and wait a week you can transfer instantly but only up to your previous deposit.

At 10:20 you said something good about Charles Schwab is that you can have all your financials under one Institution. So I want my Roth IRA and my brokerage account and a checking account all under Charles Schwab do you think that would be a good idea to do? Have them all under one institution
@Arvabelle
@Arvabelle 4 жыл бұрын
It’s not necessarily “good” or “bad” to do that, it really just depends on whether the accounts they’re offering line up with what you need. If you’ve looked into their interest rates and fees for all their different accounts and you’re happy with those, then I’d say go for it.
