great insight on the two racquets. i demo'd both for a week and settled on the extreme tour. mainly because i felt the MP was too overpowered for me. i kept sailing just a smidge long on a lot of my shots with the extreme mp but the tour seemed a lot more tame and i was able to keep shots in play. love both racquets though don't think anyone can go wrong with either.

Great review! I appreciate your insight and how you focus on what makes the racket the best fit for varying players. I currently own 3 rackets: Yonex VCore 98 - Love the solid feel and easy depth on every swing. Sometimes goes a little long on serve and approaches if I do not add enough spin. Played with it for 3 years but always tinkering an looking for a stick that gets more balls confidently in-play; Yonex Ezone 98 - Love the maneuverability, which leads to nice angles and reflex. Good depth/heaviness when I hit the sweetspot. Need to swing faster to make it work best and experiencing some minor rear shoulder discomfort; Head Extreme Tour - VERY similar to Ezone 98. I feel racket is unlocked when I swing fast but not sure ball is heavy enough and some shoulder discomfort post play. when I swing easy opponents feel my shots are easily attacked....no bueno. I am puzzled at why I have discomfort with both the Extreme Tour and Ezone, when they get such good comfort reviews? Is it because of a slightly lower swingweight which causes me to swing too fast? Kinda like when playing dodgeball with lightweight foam balls shoulder is sore afterwards compared to throwing heavier balls (like a softball/baseball/football) for hours without any discomfort at all. I have tried adding weight at the tip but did not like it as it eliminated the maneuverability I loved and did not improve stability. I am now trying to add a little weight at 6 o'clock or throat? Considering selling the Tour and trying the new MP. Just do not often gel with 100 sq inch rackets with thick beams. I have a OHBH and seem to hit it best with thinner beams in the 97-98 size range. I know it is only a few mm and 2 square inches but it does seem to make a difference!?? Am I crazy. Thanks again for yoru insightful videos and keep up the great work on the channel!
@TennCom

It's hard for me to say on the comfort side. I have heard guys like Mark Sansait struggle with the comfort of the Ezone 98. Its possible the higher swingweight on the VCORE is dealing with the shock better than the other two racquets. Its also possible that you are just used to the vibrations after 3 years of use, and the two news sticks are giving you new vibrations that you aren't used to. Try a 5g of lead tape under the replacement grip, but wrapped from the throat down so it sits above your hand during the swing. This is a trick used in MGR/i tuning which is design the speed up the feel of the racquet, or raise the MRG/i. This might speed up the racquet enough to where you can add 1 or 2g at 12 to get the power level up.

I have 2 sticks, so added 3g to one and 5g to the other. They both felt better....more solid, stable and controlled swing. However, once it got to 5g added to handle it played almost identical to the Vcore98, losing it's extra maneuverability that allowed the crazy angles and mid-swing adjustments. I decided to play with 2-3g added and love how it plays, but it is still causing some arm/shoulder discomfort. I think I am consistently swinging too hard? I really prefer the extra control and angles I get with the Ezone, but may not be able to stick with it if it causes pain. :( My serves hit spots like never before and I can go way wide or down the T at will. The Vcore produces a HEAVY serve, but can't get it as wide and goes a tad long more often. I may have to go back to 5g on each Ezone as that may improve comfort? Then try again after my arm is feeling better? Thanks and keep up the great content!

Hey man, great content! Do you think the tour is worth it in stock form without customize it? And which version do you recommend me due to the fact that I’ve been using an older aero version?
@TennCom
@TennCom Жыл бұрын
Thanks so much Manuel! I think the Tour is now quite viable in stock form. Around NTRP 4.5 or so it might be a bit light, but honestly still fine if you have a high swing speed. If you are coming from the Aero Pro Drive, the MP will be a more natural transition, but the Tour would be a nice change if you are looking for something more controlled.

I think the Extreme MP would be an excellent choice for an advanced clay courter with a 1hbh if you feel ok about the thicker beam. It’s a little more intrusive than the Pure Aero/Pure Drive but it didn’t both me that much.

i think the directional control on the 360+ Tour is the big limiting factor for me. The 98 head just gives a little bit extra firmness in the stringbed that helps me understand whats happening on contact a little better so i feel more in control of the ball.
@damianmb5
@damianmb5 Жыл бұрын
Thanks to the comparison. Would it be good for an intermediate OHBH and semi-western grip? I did enjoy the pure drive I had before in terms of easy power and I’m struggling a bit with a Pure Strike VS which seems to be extremely head light + small head size. My other option would be a Boom MP. What do you suggest? Thanks
@TennCom
@TennCom Жыл бұрын
I haven't tried the Boom MP, just I continue to be impressed with the Extreme MP. Its got the same kind of off-centre forgiveness that you get with the Pure Drive, but the stringbed is a lot more responsive and works better on slices, which should be good for your one hander.

Hi Beckett. Apologies for commenting on the months old video, but I need your quick advice, please 😢 I played tennis for 6 months and I would like to upgrade my racquet. Don't know whether I need to get extreme MP or Tour.. Currently playing about $120 head challenge pro racquet that is 295g and has 23/26/23 mm beam. I now hit the ball further than the base line if I hit hard with 50 lb tension with poly. Wanted to get MP but the thick beam size made me worry about having too many long shots. Do you still recommend MP over Tour for me and correct my swings and maybe have the string tension higher? Or do you think 98 sqin tour racket would fit better for me? Male player in 30s. Greeting from Canada as well pal. Thanks!

Hello Beckett, question: I am used to playing with a 305g unstrung racquet, and I am thinking of switching to the Extreme MP or Tour, but was wondering if its best to buy the MP and customize it and add weight OR just go with the heavier Tour. hope you can help
@TennCom
@TennCom Жыл бұрын
The weight is not really a factor between these two. Quality control from ahead is not good. Our MP came in heavier than our Pro. The difference really comes from the thickness of the beam in the MP. If you want more power and forgiveness, the MP is the way. If you need control and precision, the Tour. If still in doubt, I think the MP is better for most players and you’ll win more points with it.

How is twist weight measured?
@TennCom
@TennCom Жыл бұрын
I'm not sure how TW measures it, but there are a few ways. You can use a swingweight machine and put the racquet on sideways to get a reading, then subtract the swingweight. I don't think this is that accurate because most swingweight machines aren't accurate to 1 swingweight point so you can get varying results. You can also do it manually by hanging the frame on its outer main strings and measuring the same way you would measure swingweight manually. You can also use a Briffidi, which i will be doing a video on soon,

Nice comparison, but to properly test racquets and get a feel how they work u shouldn't switch after a few shots between them. Makes the playing experience very erratic and doesn't do any racquet justice. Ideally u should test one racquet in one session and then the other on another day. So you can have a way more consistent and concentrated session. I would also like to mention that the ET is a demanding racquet, if u have short and inconsistent swings with technical issues, it's def. not ideal to test if your playing level is not matching the demands of the racquet.
@TennCom
@TennCom Жыл бұрын
I actually completely disagree with this. I switch often during a hit because I want to really experience the differences between the racquets. The more time you spend without switching, the more you’ll get used to a racquet and the less you’ll be able to detect the racquets nuances.
@hybrid11theory75
@hybrid11theory75 Жыл бұрын
@@TennCom Doesn't make much sense with the nuances because they're totally different racquets for different types of playstyles and levels. But if this is your approach on getting a good feel for racquets, keep going.. ;)
@stanchung
@stanchung Жыл бұрын
No perfect way to test a racquet especially when a good player can get used to anything. I want a racquet that feels good after about a ten hits. If I have to change my stroke too much to get a solid connection then I tend to second guess myself and the racquet.

im a 3.0-3.5 Player Im Currently running the Extreme MP 2023 If i want to add good pace and hit winners my shots i often hit em too far (out) cause i guess im not adding the needed spin to it and my shots get too flat. Thats why i was wondering if the Tour would be better for me , because it has less power but more controll I would switch to the 2024 Extreme Tour (Pro) then. Does that makes sense?
@TennCom
@TennCom 8 күн бұрын
If you can demo that would be good but you'll probably continue hitting the ball out with Tour unless you are going to rely on the Tour to help you with some technical changes. Missing the put-away balls or approaches is usually mental or footwork. For me it's both and having the lower powered racquet reminds me to get into position and commit to the shot (not will 100% power but with my targeting).
