Honestly, even if it were an "easy way out," who cares? This kind of thing is a last-ditch attempt to improve someone's quality of life or even save their life. No one should be shamed for not wanting to die.

@tony_n316
@tony_n316 7 ай бұрын
@@kell-yh4ec Nope... Each bariatric clinic has very strict guidelines for for these procedures. Your BMI has to be above a certain % just to qualify. Then there's an interview with the surgical team and you have to have at least one serious comorbidity (like Type 2 diabetes), if you pass that and they feel you're a good candidate then it's months of appointments with a dietician, a behavioral health specialist, a cardiologist, multiple trips to the labs for blood draws and appointments with radiology to have your entire digestive system x-rayed. You spend hours talking to the behavioral health specialist and they analyze every aspect of your life. On top of that, you will be given goals by your dietician that you must meet. In the end, the dietician, behavioral health specialist and the cardiologist all have to sign off in order for you to move on to the next step. So tell me... People go through all of that and a team of medical professionals will sign off on it... Just for vanity? Nope.

I hate when I hear “it’s the easy way out” BS! I had it done 11 yrs ago. Started at 346 lbs and today I’m 223lbs. I did lose the weight extremely fast because the surgery was botched. The staples come out weeks after the procedure and now I have stenosis where the intestine was rerouted to my stomach. I have to have balloon dilations done every 8-10 weeks. It’s changed my life big time. But it’s still work to keep the weight off. The stomach is a muscle. Don’t can be stretched out. Anyways, I got off on a rant. Haha Sorry

In 2023 I've really worked on my consistency in the gym and lost the 40lbs I put on have kept it off. Gastric sleeve is not a solution but it's a TOOL amongst others to help on the weightloss and management journey. Even though I've been trying to lose weight for years, I realized that I couldn't do it without surgery. I live in the USA and unfortunately my financial situation is not good enough to receive treatment here. That's why I decided to get treatment in a different country. It was impossible for me to pay 12.000€ here. Instead I found a clinic in Turkey. Slimmer and fitter. I got a very successful result. The cost of treatment is only 2500€. At this price they picked me up from the airport and made me stay at the hotel. I am very satisfied with the result and would recommend it to you as well.

It's definitely NOT the easy way out. Just to get approved takes months of all kinds of appointments, documentation, & seeing different people (psychologist, Nutritionist, Primary Care Provider & so forth) to even get the surgery! You have to jump through what feels like endless hoops, just so your insurance will cover it. *AND THEN* when you finally get approved, and your journey starts, you still have to diet & workout! The surgery helps, but it's not gonna work nearly as good (and it will not last long) if you fall back into crappy habits. Your surgery will have been for NOTHING, if you stretch your stomach back out, over-eating! And not eating healthy! So Im glad this doctor mentioned it's not an easy way out. The whole process is a pain in the @SS, and you have to be willing to forever change how you eat. Not to mention the emotional & mental toll it takes on you, afterwards, when the surgery is done! You cant eat like before. Not just cuz you might throw up, due to a small stomach. But you see everyone else around you (at home, family) eating badly! They pig out on junk, with zero regard for you. Making you crave the junk they get to have... But you can't! It takes willpower!

100% I just had my RNY Gastric Bypass last Friday and I started this journey in early January. Same thing for me, had to meet goals with my dietician, had 4 hours total of conversations with the behavioral health specialist, had to do a stress test with the cardiologist and then there were multiple trips to the lab for blood draws and the X-Ray of my digestive system with the fun drinks they give you, my PCP and Endocrinologist. And it's not quick because I had to meet with the dietician 3 times at one month intervals in order to see results from my goals. As of right now, I am 31 pounds lighter than when I was first "officially" weighed in early February, and very little of that is from the surgery... It's from the 2 week liver shrinking diet that's necessary leading up to the surgery. At my weigh in on surgery day I went from initially being 352 lbs to 328 lbs. That was just from the liver shrinking diet, and this morning I weighed in at 321 lbs... And I am already seeing significant changes in my sleeping and my insulin resistance. My insulin units have dropped significantly and I can see a day in the near future where my endocrinologist tells me to stop taking injections all together... I agree, in the end.. This is NOT the easy way out by any means.

I completely agree I’ve watched family members and friends go through this. Some even fell into alcohol addiction. I have been considering getting the surgery but then I’m on edge because of the commitment you have to make and the things I saw them go through after going from relying on food for comfort to relying on alcohol!

Ik many people who have Bariatric surgery, and it’s definitely not an easy way out. Many people do have to loose weight with diet (and I’m not talking any old diet, but a medically monitored extremely restrictive diet of 600-900calories per day to shed weight quickly. Doctors constantly have to track their vitals/blood work to make sure they won’t die on the restrictive diet) on their own first to ensure it’s safe for them to get surgery since doing surgery on obese people can pose a natural risk. Also that restrictive diet is used to prepare them not to eat too much after surgery as well.
