We currently shoot weddings with a 5d4, a7r3, and 1dxmk2. The best tracking, focus, and reliable images are still the from the 1dxmk2. Still get more keepers from the 5d4 with the 24-70ii vs the a7r3 with the GM 24-70, but most likely due to the ability to fine tune focus points on the fly faster in the DSLRs. Favorite camera to use for stills is definitely the Sony. I can't wait for the next evolution in mirrorless, but for now I need the the ability to adapt to changing conditions of weddings and nothing does it better for me than the 1dxmk2. I have used the a9 and I still have trouble switching settings at the speed of the cannon. Missing a shot can be everything, that's where the 1d and d5 prove their worth

As an amature nerd that doesn't do video, the R would have been the dream, but at a $1,000 more without a good eye AF, the RP is a no brainier. I just got the RP yesterday with the RF 24 to 105... struggled deciding between the combo or the R at this price, but I don't have a lot of EF glass. But this glass is amazing..super sharp, super fast focus....the RP is a great camera.

I'm using 6D mkII as when I bought it Canon's mirrorless was just a gossip, and to be honest I would buy it again as RP doesn't seem to be as good (but is cheaper so I'm not sure) and R is too expensive. But I need to point that 6D II has built in bluetooth and GPS and you can select focus point on the back of LCD by just moving your thumb around the screen. Also you can use Canon Camera Connect app exactly same way you can use it with 5DmkIV. I don't think this are game changing features but probably worth mentioning. Anyway cool video and thanks for making it.

One thing I think would be a great addition is a chart at the end showing which cameras won in which fields, as well as the total amount of checkmarks accumulated by each camera. Since the Canon 5div and 6dii are part of this video, those are the cameras to look at first. Why? Because they won't be around for very long and the mirrorless cameras will be. Maybe not the exact models but a version of them. If you want/need a dslr get them while you can. Lens mount is a consideration. Think about those features you really want or need. You may not really need a given feature or miss a given feature. Respectfully, not all cameras need video. If your business requires video, OK you do. But there are those of us who shoot only stills. Video capabilities don't just come along for free. Though it may seem so. Having video as part of the feature set, likely effects the mix, ie. you may miss out on something you woud prefer as a result of video being included. Finally, "if you know what you are doing." Your right, Jared.

I'm saving for the Canon R with grip and control ring adapter. I've invested in quality EF glass and like the idea I don't need to micro adjust mirrorless body for my lenses. I'm upgrading from 6D II, which is a great body within reason but the AF capabilities of mirrorless and accuracy of focus point positioning vs actual focus point position matching due to EVF is what has sold me, not to mention RF glass options. I found my optical VF with 98% coverage was focusing slightly above the actual displayed focus rectangle in VF, which totally sucks when trying to nail focus with shallow DOF, and contrast detect focus seemed to trump my phase detect focusing with DSLR technology. That's why Canon R seems a worthwhile choice for me, even though I fear that if I buy now, Canon will launch a pro R body that will leave me wishing I'd waited.

I'd say the RP or the R are the best ones for me. I couldn't care less for video, I enjoy macro, architecture and landscape (in that order), so it would be hard for anybody to distinguish between a still and a video. And I really like the smaller size. Coming from that, the RP doesn't offer too much additional value to justify the price, except for the higher resolution. However, this is a big advantage for macros. Hmm...

Jarod, I know you’re a very busy guy. I want to say firstly, I highly enjoy your content, and ability to break things down. I’m a little lost in a choice. I’ve been doing a huge amount of research. I started my career with the canon eos 7d. I started with it with the mentality I would learn everything I could, and push my camera to its complete limits. Small portrait sessions, big, even a couple weddings, and between the camera and really good editing, with my skill set now, I’ve achieved gorgeous images, but I’ve done what I set out to do. Push my camera to its max. A big problem is low light (dynamic range) coming back from shadows etc. it falls apart at like 3500 iso. I know my camera is way out of date and with my thought process, I was thinking about jumping into an rp for a year, and saving next season to make an r5 my main, and rp backup. So I’m thinking rp main 7d back up. Do u have any sort of advice. Yes I’m on a budget atm. I’ve seen so much hate on the rp, but it looks like a huge upgrade from my favorite dinosaur. Interested in ff, and expanding my wedding capabilities. I’m a firm believer it’s the man behind the specs more than the specs alone, but yes, it’s a time for an upgrade. There is no single all-purpose body, each of these have strengths and a common audience of buyers. Mechanical vs mirrorless doesn't make the picture any better. Most cannot buy multiple bodies to shoot optimally for sports with a 1dx2, landscape/portraits with 5d4 or R, timelapse with R. Instead most will hope for the best buying what they can afford like the 6d2 or RP and do just fine.

I love the 6D M2 and the 7D2 as well. The 7D2 is great with a long zoom lens like the Tamron 70-300 for street photography, because you can be a long way from your subject and still get the benefit of the crop factor (eg about 420mm on the above lens). Its 65pt auto focus will still allow a lot of coverage of the frame and allow for rule-of-thirds style portraits. On the other hand, the 6D2 maybe will need a little cropping with street photography and you have to be a little closer to your subject. In very busy places, with a 24-105 lens such as the Sigma, you need to be a little nearer your subject, but even if you have to allow for the 45 pt auto-focus in editing and crop a wee bit, the resolution is still about 25 megapixels. More than the 7D2. The 6D2 is fabulous though, for portraits and for subjects such as architecture and landscapes, that can't answer back and ask, "Why are you taking my photograph?" If you have time to frame your subject, the 6D2 will always give the best results. My answer to those who point to either camera's slightly out of date video capabilities is, can you really tell the difference between 1080p and 4k? Especially when viewed on an iPad or even a 27" i-Mac? I would guess that in blind testing, the answer would be no in either scenario. The 6D2 and 7D2 have video capabilities that will thrill anyone moving from their mobile phone - even if that has 4K. As Jared points out, it's the glass in front of the camera, and even the kit lenses associated with an APS-C (18-55mm), will give much better results than a tiny piece of plastic on a mobile that has been stuffed in a handbag or pocket, and has never been cleaned.

I do believe that canon is committed to the “R” lineup, and the new 1DX ii will be a full on mirrorless maybe with IBIS, the “R” lens will be rolling off the production line offering better optics. Hey Jared, great video. I was wondering, since there at least 4 lenses for R mount already released, could you do video compering old canon system vs new system. Not just a lens or camera but complete system. And maybe also adding Sony and some other ones that have similar range glass. Thank you!

I only shoot stills so the video capabilities are not important at all to me, I shoot architecture and have a TS-E 17mm as my main lens for internals and externals. I now use a 6D mk2 as (previously had 1Ds in 2003 to 2006 then 5Dmk1 from 2006 to 2018! Still works never failed me, would love to see the shutter count.) I need a second body for location shoots so I don't need to swap lenses, after all the reviews I have just purchased the EOS R as offers everything I currently have but up a level. (The articulated screen is a must for me now, as shooting interiors in tight spaces means I can push the camera right into the corner and still see the screen as I can manipulate it back towards me! - The focus peaking will be great as the hardest thing with the TS-E is manual focusing on such a wide shot. The build in level also means I can shoot handheld for externals and get everything plumb & true. Speeds up my workflow no end for daytime exteriors! I was more than happy with my 6Dmk 2 but for minimal extra the EOS R will become my main body (I use the vertical battery grip with both) I also own 70-200mm F/4 L IS, 24-105mm F/4 L IS MK1, 17-40mm F/4 L, 28-300mm F/3.5 - 5.6 L & a MKIII 2x extender as well as the TS-E 17mm F/4 L as detailed above.

At this point, the best all-around camera is the R. I had them all, except the RP, and I'm loving the R. It just needs a few tweaks and cut off some rough edges to be perfect in real life.

It's ok for what it is.. IMO. Mirrorless baby steps. - The 6D Mark II is way cheaper (BH Photo- $1500) , and will fit EF mount lenses. The autofocus points all in the center issue is irrelevant when shooting with a f/1.x lens, because it achieves focus instantly.
@scotie6905 жыл бұрын
FeedScrn I agree with you at 100%. In fact, I bought a new 6d2 for my wife, on eBay some weeks ago. It had a great price and she's loving it and me as well. I miss the simplicity and great IQ from my first FF, the 6d. But since I'm a tech freak I couldn't help it without having the R.

Hey Jared, Could we see a 70-200 Tamron G2 vs Sigma Sport battle? I'm on the fence as to if the Sigma is worth the extra $300. Shooting with Nikon D5600 with plans to go full frame soon. GO FRO!!

I know I'm late to party on this video, but I just wanted to say I have the 6D that I use for motorsports photography. I love it and it works great. Would I love the 1Dx, HELL YES but at the time that I upgraded from my 8 year old rebel XS it was all I could afford. I am however now saving up for a 1Dx to use as my primary since I don't think the Canon mirrorless at quite there yet for motorsports photography.

There is still a market for Canon 30-year-old FD lenses, EF lenses will be around for decades. It will take Canon another 10+ years to build an RF family equivalent to the EF family if they ever do.

@@KaReEdCa Let's take the RF 15-35mm F2.8 IS USM as an example. Price..probably 2000-2599 euro later this year. The EF 16-35mm F2.8 costs 1899 euro at the moment. Picking up EF bargains is gonna be very interesting for us all. Just got a Tamron 85mm F1.8 for 347 euro new on sale and saw a Tamron 45mm F1.8 for the same price. Having options with the adapters is fantastic!

@@Ravencroft81 exactly!!! I just got the 24 to 105 RF and it's super sharp....by all accounts the sharpest 24 to 105 ever on a Canon. And the ring is super sweet....looking forward to getting the adapter with ring soon...possibilities of this new system even to use efs lenses is awesome. I'm using my tokina 11-16 2.8 @16mm with no vignetting at all. Great lens and no need to get another lens.

EOS R is the no brainer. What does the 5D Mark IV get you at this point over the EOS R? If anything, just wait for the new pro body coming out soon.
@africanhistory5 жыл бұрын
So was I, then I bought the 5D was it the right choice? i do not know but I did not like the form factor or electronic viewfinder. Been with DSLR style bodies for more than a decade. So I skipped a lot of features and got MK 4. So do not listen to the guy above who said it was a no brainer. These are ppl looking at specs all day long. Go use the cameras and see, like I did.
@ShinWellnessMiami5 жыл бұрын
@@africanhistory o yea don't listen to the guy telling you to get the cheaper camera with the same sensor and better processor because of MUH outdated optical viewfinder.

talking about the FPS.... actually it depends on the uses of the camera. When you are a sport photographer then yes, you need the highest FPS. but if you just want to shoot in studio, I dont think we need highest FPS at all.... thats why I still use the 5D Mark IV in studio and the 7D Mark II for sport shooting. but thinking about to buy the EOS R next...... anyway....thanks for sharing of this video, dude..... love it.
