I’m gonna be honest, I’ll probably never try all of these mashed potatoes recipes, but I know what I think the best mashed potatoes are, the ones my dad made for holidays. He called them, guess what, holiday mashed potatoes, and they were amazing. He used 5 pounds of Idaho potatoes cut into small chunks, then mashed them in a kitchen aid (the only thing that would fit all of them besides the serving dish). He would add a bar of cream cheese, a stick of butter, and milk/cream until they were the perfect fluffy texture, then stir in some salt and pepper and that was it. They’re FILLING, but so so so good. I could eat just those mashed potatoes for the rest of my life. And they’re SO good if you make them into potato pancakes a few days later.

I would have voted for hers. They're simple and basic but rich, which is exactly what good mashed potatoes should be IMO. But once I saw that Gordon Ramsay was in it, I knew Ina was through....and almost all the comments would be people repeating Gordon's rants and LOLing.

The way I see Ina, is an inspiration for beginner cooks. She makes her recipes basic in hope to inspire new cooks to go further. Don't be afraid of playing with cooking because there are so many different ways OF cooking. So, she makes hers basic so that they work off her recipes and then inspires them to do something more with it.
