Got the H1 a year ago, and very happy with it, especially the quick set-up which I found very important in my way of using it. Rear standard does have asymmetrical tilt though, same as the F2 (actually even easier with the twin knobs similar to the front standard, combined with the rear rise), and some additional movements. Main difference between H1 and F2 is really the way of shooting, if one want a quick set-up or not (folding or not), and the need of more than 350mm of bellows or not (which is already a lot on the field).

one thing, Nico, the H1 because of it's design could be thought of as a 'cheap' Toyo VX125 , but having the asymmetric tilt instead of the base tilt of the Toyo. This is still a "wide angle camera" or architecture camera as it's design is based, not on Phillips design, but more akin to the monorail Toyo VX 125 a field design of this, mainly based on wide and normal focal length lenses (75-150mm)- however, with top hat extension/ recessed lens boards wider and longer lenses can be used.

Man finally someone well explained the Chamonix lineup! I End up with the H1 bc the F2 was not available. So far I love it. Is not as compact as the F2 but is ok!! Cheers man!

I have the Chamonix F1. I wanted a light weight camera i can pack into park trails etc and it fits the bill perfectly. I got it as soon as it was introduced and have been shooting it ever since.

Thanks for this. I’ve been thinking of a Chamonix 4x5 (I have an 8x10 and 11x14) and this video clears up a few questions I had. One thing appealing about the 45H cameras is the ability to swap out the back to 5x7 or 4x10. This is a feature that may be of little interest to someone looking for a general use 4x5 camera, but since I have a few 4x5s already, the ability to adapt the camera to other formats is appealing.

Im with you in the 4x10 backs. I have 4x10 holders (long story) and might go the H route just for that option. One camera can be 3 cameras....

A question about the lens board you have there, the circle is slightly dropped as opposed to centred on the board, does this matter? I have one lens board like this, I always wonder if I have to raise the front standard to zero the camera fully.

Hi, I am unable to see exactly what is the asymmetrical tilt. I tried to read up online. Am I correct to say it is when the axis of tilt is not passing through centre on the ground glass?

Question: Is the Chamonix 4x5 F2 counted as a monorail camera or a field camera?

Field camera. Monorails use a monorail.
